My opinion. I went Natural because I want Green, and while a bit lighter may have been nice but not enough for me to risk missing this color green, which I do like a lot.

I started wanting detonator yellow, but it wasn't meant to be.

For awhile my link to the color listing on Milous' WK Jeep site showed Black Forest green as an actual green color - not the black place holder - lighter that the Nat Green Pearl (what I would consider a forest green color to be). Now it is back to the black place holder.

Not sure what is going on there. Looks worth the wait to me - especially since I don't have a choice at this point!

I'd sure like to know when that color will show up as an option for ordering. I need to be standing at the dealership door when they open that day!

This thread has been a great help to me as well. I just ordered a Rubicon Unlimited with dual tops. It's my first jeep since my 81 CJ7 Renegade. My dad has a TJ that he wheels and I'm excited to hit the trails with him.

I admit, there is a resemblance to the Willys!

But, GPW's were built by Ford to Willy's MB design specs. It's thought that GPW may have stood for General Purpose, War.

I assume the Sahara does slightly better with MPG due to gearing, and the tires wear better than the mud tires on the Rubicons?

Even though most Jeeps spend 90% if their time on the road, I suppose it's more about the idea that you could go off-road if you choose. (Better than all other SUVs that spend more than 95 to 97% on road, and the H2's, which their time being recovered by JPs!)

Now that's good stuff right there; wheeling with your Dad. Have fun, take pictures, and take your own kids wheeling one day.

New Member and Hopefully New Owner

There is so much information on this site and I have started at page 1 to gather it all. But as fast as I read (up to page 48) more pages are being added. I am hoping to get advice from all the of you on the site. I will be a new owner by fall but have questions as to what to look for or option to consider. I am definitely not a "soccer mom" but will be going to soccer games - my own. I don't do malls but do do camping. Haven't ever been trail riding but willing to give it a try. This will be my primary transportation in the suburbs, shore trips, short camping trips. I will need to put a bike rack or a cooler rack on the back. I need the Unlimited since I have 3 kids and a husband that will be tagging along. My questions first start with the differences between 2010-2012. There are a few '10 still on lots around here, I am thinking I could get work out a deal on them, but would I be missing out on something from the '11 or '12. I have never had a jeep and if I do any trail riding it will probably be limited so I am not sure if the changes for the '12 are important right now. Any advice you can offer would be appreciated.

Cool Noob

Well, here it goes.......In honor of the 100th page and 3000th post I guess it is time to join in the fun.....

Hi all. I have been lurking for a month now. This thread makes me feel up to date regarding the 2012. Thanks all....

Currently on my 3rd Avalanche. Great trucks. But, well, after 55 years of delaying the inevitable, it is time to roll with a Wrangler!

First, my Navy affiliation:
3 months at sea on the Spartenburg County, LST1192, so sort of a member of the Gator Navy. And almost a month deployed of the Trout, SS566. So sort of a diesel electric bubblehead too! So, do I qualify as a blue water Jeeper? The only twist here is that I am a retired Army helicopter pilot! With more blue water time than some of my bell bottomed buddies.....and before you ask, well you know what I would have to do if I told you why!

Next... libation of choice while enjoying these last 3000 posts......The aforementioned bottles of Kentucky's finest are all nice, but a rocks glass full of El Dorado or Pyrat Pistol rum does it for me! (I did see one mention of some Gosslings awhile back, so I know I am not the only rummy here!)

Next, a new category.... Cigar of choice would be a nice Montecristo Number 2 or a Drew Estate maduro Java Toro.

And finally, and certainly most important, the new Jeep!!!!!! With all the knowledge gained here, I do believe a '12 JKU Sahara is in my near future. Just waiting for the USAA pricing to come out for the 12's. While not being amused by my Navy friends, I lived just northeast of the Black Forest while fighting communist aggression back in 73, so the Black Forest Green seems to have my name on it! And since Tampa is in my near future, I think the 3.73 vs the 4.10 is the right choice! The Avalache has some 33 Nitto Terra Grapplers on it that I have become fond of, so that will be the first scheduled mod.

In any case, thanks again to all for the great info......Where and when is the first 2012 Wrangler Forum Jamboree? Seems appropriate that it would leave from the lot of Pat's dealership? I have had fun in the past playing amongst the bluffs and sand along the Wisconsin river before.....it ain't Moab, but just sayin!

You're right, based on Wikipedia the word Jeep would be derived from GPW which would mean "Government Purposes based on Willy's designed engine"

You guys remind me of that old Payless Shoe Source commercial where the woman is tapping on the closed doors repeating, "Open open open open..."

Yeah ... "could" - you can go some pretty fun places in a stock sahara; even more fun places in a stock Rubicon - and even more fun places in a fully modified Sport with a Hemi.

Stands to be seen on MPG; but, I would expect similar on both. Gearing options aside, though gearing is higher on the Sahara, the tires are smaller. So, though I haven't crunched the numbers, I suspect it's pretty much a wash. With the optional 4.10s, my auto Rubi will likely do worse than the auto Rubi's with standard 3.73s ... until the 35s go on.

Generally speaking, MTs wear faster than ATs or other road-biased tires. That said, every MT I've ever run has been either 35" or 37" (except one 33" set I had for 3 months), so my views may be a bit jaded. But, you can significantly increase MT tire life by rotating every 2500-3000 miles.

Welcome Wendy

First, change from 10 to 11, mostly interior design. Go take a look if you have a dealer that has both.

Second, change from 11 to 12, 2 words, engine and transmission. The new engine not only has more power, but better gas mileage on the HWY (seems like city is almost the same, maybe 1 mpg difference). And the new transmission is no slouch either.

If you're still not sure, maybe wait a month or so and test drive all 3. Or test drive some now and again then.

You'll probably end up in a Sahara or Sport. Check them out, look at the features, build some 11s online. You'll learn a lot quickly! And come here for your info, NOT the dealer (but you figured that one out already).
