Ordered mine first moment I could. Pat said order banks are open and I was in my car to the dealer in seconds. Bring it on!!!

Pentastar 3.6L w/5-speed Auto
Deep Cherry Red
Black Cloth Heated Seats
Auto Temp A/C
3:73 LSD
Trailer Tow Pkg.
Conn. Pkg.
Remote Start
Black Freedom Top

Ordered it from a Dealer (Bald Hill Dodge) that I previously worked at some time ago. So easy to deal with a Salesman when you know them!

The wait is going to kill me!
Hey....I'm from RI too. I bought my 2010 Sahara at Baldhill. Got a great deal. Paid $1500 below invoice. At the time, there was a $750 rebate and I had received an additional $750 coupon in the mail, from Jeep. What kind of deal did you get on your 2012?

Worked out for me fellas, I expect you guys will be thrilled.

I made no effort to test drive any Wrangler before taking delivery because I actually wasn't sure I'd be able to drive a manual transmission. (My father had taken me out as a teenager a handful of times to teach me, but that was it.) But I knew I wanted a manual, so I had the dealer deliver it to my house so I could stall in my own driveway/neighborhood getting the hang of it. The rest is history.

I decided on a 2012 because it was a no brainer... 80 more HP, better MPG, nicer interior, cdi discount and lifetime power train warranty from my dealer at no extra cost. It left me no choice. But im not knocking the older jeeps. If i could have found an 08 or 09 for under $20k i would have bought it.

"Older Jeeps?" Don't forget that many of us bought those "older Jeeps" brand new. My '09 came with the LPTW so I'm not giving it up!

Yes they are getting up there. Makes you almost want to get something more luxurious for that price. I forgot some of the options I ordered like the side airbags and the engine block heater. As of now if you go and build an Unlimited Rubicon online I see a price of $41,075. The only options I didn't get are the COD and smokers. I don't smoke and neither will anyone in my Jeep.

Hey guys, what if the supposed "refresh" or "redesign" of the 2012's looks like crap, would you cancel your order? I mean we haven't seen the damn thing yet and I know most if not all of us (myself included) ordered just based on the Pentastar engine. This thing can potentially be a more powerful, more fuel efficient, butt ugly eye sore.

Sure, why not? Not sure about the other guys that
ordered them but my deposit is 100 percent refundable. Heck if I don't like it in any way I'll get a new 2011 at a nice discount.

Well Tom I think "Older Jeeps" is a proper description of a 2009 when talking about a 2012. My point was that if the 2012s weren't getting an arguably better engine then I would have bought a distinctly aged (does that sound better?) 09 or 2011 new. I'm also not a Pentastar fanboy. However, more HP and better gas mileage is hard to argue about. If you read any review on the JKUs with the 3.8 engine in it they main negative is how sluggish it is. I've test drove plenty from 08 to new 2011s and they are right. Its under powered for such a heavy vehicle. However, I was still convinced that it would be good enough for me. Once I found out about the new engine and did some research it made more sense to me to wait for a 2012. My only concern is that getting a new engine/tranny combo might now be the smartest thing to do with the potential for more bugs. However, the lifetime pwr train warranty sealed the deal for me. You are in a 2012 order date forum. Again I want a 2012 because speculation says that it will be a better fit for me (98 percent on road driving). If I see it and drive it and its not, then my deposit is 100 percent refundable and I bet I'll be able to get a sweet deal on a 2011.

Love this thread.... LMAO. I've owned two TJ's and now I'm moving up to the 2012 JK. My experience: The 4L engine was not bad on performance, poor on fuel economy and great on durability and I *loved* my TJ's -- but the JK with the 3.8 engine was both overweight and underpowered, not to mention that it was produced with highly suspect quality. Let's just say that I am pretty familiar with the Pentastar (aka Phoenix) engine and, let there be no doubt, if you love Jeeps, you're going to enjoy the new JK with the 3.6L engine! I share everyone's concern about the price point -- that's getting a little out-of-hand. Let's just hope the quality thing has improved.... Happy wheelin'

From everything I've read, it's the transmission that's really the issue. I have a 2dr manual so no issues for me. You guys getting the automatic are also getting a new transmission.

You got me there Tom. Its a thread not a forum. Why are you so interested in this thread again?

I'm here to research options on the 2012 that I just ordered and here more about it.

Are you here to bash the folks that are excited about getting 2012s? Don't get me wrong there are people like that in every thread I mean forum that I've read. They just love to stir crap up and correct people on everything. They love the anonymous power of the keyboard and mouse

Nobody is knocking your 09 with lifetime warranty. There is nothing wrong with those and if I could have found one with a decent price I would have bought one. However, there are just too many reasons to buy a 2012 (and one of those is the LPTW that I'm getting).

Huh? Nobody is bashing folks excited about the 2012, or any other Wrangler for that matter. Didn't we just talk last night about seeing who's first with pics and so on?

Take a spin in a Chrysler Town & Country with the 3.8. Runs great and has no power problems. Same engine as the current JK, but a better auto transmission. On top of that, the JK's differential gearing is numerically too low, especially for the autos.

The result is that many who test drive an auto 2007-11 JK feel it's underpowered. This is made worse while the computer keeps the engine in its "break-in" period, as is the case on new vehicle test drives.

These issues are remedied by (1) getting past the break-in period, (2) adding a $150 to $300 programmer to adjust shift points, and (3) spending ~$1500 on a regearing. Test drive an automatic 2007-11 JK with these modifications done and you'll find it very peppy.

If you drive a manual 2007-11 JK and think it's underpowered, you're simply shifting too low in the RPM band. I used to shift at 2500 or below because . . . well I have no idea. I just did. Then I realized I could shift at 3500+. Now I've got plenty of power.

For you 2012ers, all of this is mostly moot. The main thing I hope you understand is that it's about the SET UP, not just one component. Jeep is fixing the auto transmission problem by replacing it, and Jeep is fixing (really, "overcoming") the gearing problem by simply adding more power up front. That should work and, absent any problems, I think you'll be thrilled.

Have I not been offering help in this thread? If us vets weren't helping it would be nothing more than a bunch of noobs bumping into each other.

If I were buying a Wrangler now, I would definitely wait for a 2012.

My refund is refundable as well so I'm not worried. Just wanted to see what others might have to say since we all ordered blindly.

No sweat. Then I appreciate your help. My impression was that you were in here to razz the folks that are excited about buying 2012s. I guess we will all see how good they are. I'm sure the folks with them will talk highly about them and the folks with older JKs will down play their greatness

If Jeep made a JKU with the old 4.0 I'd buy that anyway. I got 300k miles on my 94 cherokee before it rusted out.

You'd be hating life with the 4.0 in the JKU. The 4.0 makes less HP and MPG than the 3.8. It was fine in the small light TJ, but the JK is heavier than the TJ and the XJ.

"Greatness" has yet to be seen, but in any case, does not diminish the current powertrain. The only person I've given a hard time to is Wrangler2012, who highly deserves it.

I wish that more people would remember that when they profess to **LOVE** half-doors but the only reason they did not get them is that unzipping windows is too much of a pain vs. power windows. Talk about a lack of fortitude from a Jeep-er.....

Thanks so much for everyone's contributions! I recently ordered 2012 Rubi Unlimited with your help. I asked my dealer for a tow package when I ordered. I just noticed on my order form, it says AHQ "Max Tow Package.". That sounds good on the surface, but reading the forums AHT "Trailer Tow Group" seems the better option with sway control and a Class V hitch. Is that the case? Can you even get the AHT package on a Rubi? Thanks again for this great community. First ever Jeep for me!

Ha ha ha. Well I'm not going to argue with you on the 4.0. I have loyalty to that engine due to its lack of issues and 300k miles I got out of it. It was fine in my cherokee.
