Normally, I would expect that if there was no coolant, the sensor would send an error code that would cause the check engine light to come on. I'm not a tech and I wasn't involved in the cooling system or control strategy design, but a Chrysler tech could probably answer this question in short order. We got any of those guys on the forum today???

I have a question (?)...
How many keys do we get with the Jeep?
The salesman told me that Jeep comes with only (2) keys
My wifes Honda CR-V came with (2) remote control w/keys and (1) key with no remote control... My toyota tacoma (2) remotes (2) keys with the plastic molding (1) all metal key w/no plastic molding, and (1) plastic key (see picture below for discription).
Just checking, I just don't want them to keep any extra keys.
I did not have the remotes that start the engine.

You know what's weird? My 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 key will start my 2005 wrangler. Weird right? That really screws me up.

Take that mini-remote and put some velcro with sticky-tape on the back. Then put another piece of velcro sticky-tape on the underside of yer steering-wheel column (Or where ever pleases you) Done. Then you can take the remote out of the vehicle at will....

(And a big Yeeeeee Haaaaaa for ndrugby!)

Well ladies and gentlemen my engine ceased up with 43 miles on the odometer. Let me first recap the events from last night to present.

I picked up the Jeep with 4 miles on the dash. This was around 8pm EDT last night. I had to work an overnight shift last night so I just drove straight home and at that point there was 11 miles on the dash. Left home at 11:30pm to go to work in Manhattan and while on the FDR around 42nd St the the temperature gauge started dinging. I didn't notice it rise and wouldn't have known if it wasn't for the ding. Shortly after the ding, a symbol which when checked in the owner's manual said it was the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC). At that point I was 2mins from work and couldn't deal with it then and that was when I posted my initial thoughts with 28 miles on it.

Got out of work at 9am this morning and inspected the vehicle for any puddles underneath for anything leaking. That checked out fine. The diffs and axles all looked clean. Then I went under the hood. The washer fluid, power steering and brake fluid can be seen without any hassle whatsoever. All were filled. I did 4 dips with the dipstick for the engine oil and it was satisfactory to me. The engine coolant resevoir was empty at the time which is connected to the radiator. My understanding of that is the fluid goes back and forth between the radiator and the resevoir correct? I initially thought there was no fluid but later verified that there was fluid in the radiator. Started her up to head home and within 5mins the temperature guage rose and rose and finally hit H and ''ding''. I pulled over and called the dealership. They put me onto the service dept who told me to bring it in to check it out. I asked him if I should drive it since it's overheating but no smoke or foul smell was noticeable. He asked me if at any point I lost power. I said no. He said ok then bring it in.

I went back to the owner's manual and checked the symbols more thoruoghly. The CEL was on and the reason given in the manual was maybe the gas cap is loose. I made sure it was not. The other symbol was the ETC light which says that if the light is on steady (not blinking) the vehicle is driveable but should be checked by service. My light wasn't blinking so I started driving again heading straight for the dealer. While on the 95 doing 35 with hadzards on there was a complete loss of power. I was able to pull onto the shoulder in time before the car shut itself down with 43 miles on the odometer. Had to get towed 10mins to the dealer but since I was on the highway I had to pay out of pocket but was told that Chrysler would reimburse me.

The news came back that the engine was shot and everyone is in disbelief. They told me that the next plan would be that they would contact HQ and see if they want the technicians messing around with it some more or if they would send a new engine to be installed. If all else fails a new Jeep period. The thing is Cosmos is no longer in production so I'm not sure if they'll make one last Jeep for me in that color. There is nothing wrong with the rest of the Jeep so I dont see why they would get rid of it completely unless they want the VIN on the engine to match the other parts of the vehicle. I'll take another vehicle as long as they can make it in Cosmos.

Dealer said if they do have an engine in Toledo available they can send it in 3 days and another 2 days to install. What would you guys do? Did I do anything wrong? Any feedback is appreciated.

Does anyone have replacement "F5" keys for sale? Mine isn't working. I've pressed a hundred times today, but my Jeep is still in D1 status. I hope my Jeep is more reliable than my keyboard, because my kyboad s nt worin proply.

Dominos... Oh no...

Hope they reimburse you for the tow and get that engine soon. Supposedly some new True Blue opened up, if a new Jeep maybe you can go with that color? Whatever it looks like? I will find out before I pick up mine. Any hour now...

In my non-mechanically inclined mind I didn't see anything wrong you did.
