Tested components this AM

We had a marine layer in, so no sun this AM. I took the Jeep down to several beaches this morning to test the e-discos, 4 hi/lo, lockers and had a blast. I thought about putting this into Daggo66's thread but that would be cheating since this wasn't really true offroad..just a mild morning in the sand. Everything worked perfectly.

Yup, that's the footman. You will see a similar loop inside the Jeep on the windshield. When folded the one is bound to the other with a strap that used to come in the glove box

Send those pics to your dealer, they would look great in their ads, especially when you can read the paper plates and tire cover

First 2012 Jeep purchased in Nevada. Sad to see the LR3 go... Picked up the mil voucher lifetime warranty for $1946. Prestige Dodge in Vegas has been a pleasure to deal with so far. This will make a great Overland project (Expedition West 3.0 clone). Time to start looking for an extended tank, rack, bumpers...

Going shopping for the few supplies I needto do this mod this morning. Plan on attaching anchors with some 3M VHB tape left over from installing headliners.

Here's some info on others doing this:

Oh yeah, that is cool stuff...but hard to work with at times. A bunch of us replaced the grill over the motor of our Porshce 911's with that.

Congrats and my condolences.

Mine arrived at the dealer the day after the 1 year anniversary of my Mom's passing. It was the biggest 24 hour swing of emotions ever. She would have been excited for me and worried that it wasn't safe. But that's moms for ya!

It sits real high. Add a 3.5" lift and that thing is a beast.

We'll be folding down rear seats and using the Unlimited to haul work supplies in. There's a pretty big gap behind the seats when they're folded down. Has anyone found a good way to cover this open space?

Sandbaja, Awesome beach pictures! What beaches were those pictures taken on? I didn't think there was vehicle access to any San Diego County beaches.

Will check that out. After putting on another 53 miles (96 total) currently sitting at Sonic. Yeah, first place I drive to to buy something haha. Let's hope for no spills later.

Will head into Lowes right after and get supplies. Hopefully pictures tonight.

Will need to order them headliners too. Temp says 110 and yeah top feels hot. Need to figure out if I want to paint the inside. White looks weird inside. Maybe a black or better yet a silver. We'll see.

6" x 20' roll 'Co-Polymer Gutter Guard" about $4.
1"x1" cable tie anchors, 40 for about $8.00.
Cable ties... who doesn't have cable ties around?

So, $12 and change, and I'm ready to go.

I just want to report that my 2012 Rubicon Unlimited w/ 4.10 gears used up it's first tank of gas...first tank of gas yielded 314 miles, it was very uneven driving and in the engine break in phase.... How is everybody else with the Unlimiteds and 4.10's set doing?

So far it looks good..

Put a 100 miles on mine since yesterday and loving it ...

A few initial thoughts: similar to UpHillBill ... I'm surprised how quiet it is on the highway. My best comparison on noise level: on the highway it sounds similar to a older benz I have that has a yakima roof rack and fairing. So, definitely some noise, but very muted.

Also, I'm surprised how much I like the look of the cloth interior. I have Katzkin being installed on Monday. But, honestly, if I hadn't special ordered the Katzkin, I don't know that I would change the cloth after seeing the 'total package'.

Finally, last night I crawled all around the vehicle looking at everything that needs to get protected, etc, as I get ready for my build-up. It never occurred to me just how wide those flairs are and just how far they stick off the side of the truck. It appears those things are going to get crushed quick without some sort of much wider rockslider. I'm open to suggestions.

Below is the obligatory dealer pick-up pic and someone asked earlier about the placement of the heated seat buttons from the factory ....

Did the dealer put the fuel door on for you at the ±$96 price? If so, good score!
The dealer dinged me $55 shop fee to install the fuel door and the hood lock, and to get the tumblers installed in the gas cap. I'm good with it.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to ya, been out cruisin...

BTW...I slept like a rock last night!

If you wouldn't mind, please post some before and after pics of the interior. I'd love to see the difference between the black cloth interior (I'm assuming you have the stock black interior) versus the black Katskinz interior. I'm picking up my Jeep next week, and I'm thinking about adding Katskinz leather.

Can you download iPod playlists or music to the hard drive on the 730?

Picked up the new jeep today. No complaints. Haven't owned a Wrangler since 1999 so needless to say there are many improvements. One frustration though is copying music onto the HDD. My question is must the song files be in mp3 format? It appears that you cannot copy directly from an iPod. But even if I drag files onto a thumb drive they will still not be in mp3 format. I apologize if this has been covered--I did a search but could not find my questions answered.

Apple formats everything as an AAC or MP4. You can probably find a converter online

Uploaded via my phone, but editing and typing on my computer to be quicker.

All right. So I got rid of the back seat. It is sitting in my climate control storage building. I swear I could almost feel an immediate improvement on the driving.

So without the back seat now. I lifted up the carpet and I find the first two pictures. First I like the silver. Would be neat if I could "rhino line" it in the future but have it silver in color.

Second, WTF are those lines? I've never seen that in any tub, and never heard anyone mention anything similar to this that I can remember. Obviously removing the carpet and lining the tub, someone would have mentioned something about all the bumps.

Third picture is obvious. Picture without the seat.

Last two pictures are mainly the Mopar tote bag. Normally it was fitting perfectly behind the back seat. Velcro attachments to keep it from moving, has some nice ribber spikey feet to help too. Will see how it handles without a seat to attach to, will figure something out. Behind the tote you can see the freedom top storage bags. Now, once I saw the storage bags on my build sheet, I cancelled the Mopar part. The instructions on use, are Mopar. So to everyone out there, did they get Mopar instructions with the factory bags? Will have to look at the bags closely, not sure if I have factory or Mopar bags, or if they are the same.

While the bags are folded in thirds, each one fits perfectly into one of the four tote sections. And, coming back from mall crawling, err, grocery shopping, I was able to stand up some things inside the tote and nothing fell over. Unlike the Thing, they go all over the place, and I just hope nothing falls through one of the big rust holes.

I went on about a mile dirt road to the land I own. In the Thing, it felt like huge boulders all over the place. Now they feel like little pebbles. For the first time, figured I would hope I don't screw anything up and tested 4Hi. Drove about 25 down the gravel road. So at least I know that works. Haven't tried 4Lo yet.

And I can't believe I forgot to take a picture of the underneath, but I am comfy and I am not going back out there in the 108 degree heat. You 4 door people, with the ugly loop, I don't have that with the 2 door. One of these days I'll take a picture, or maybe someone else will beat me to it.

And, yet more proof Waco sucks. Home Depot and Lowes did not have any wire mesh. Well, Lowes did, but it looked like chicken wire, and felt like razors. Great, so it will just slice the bugs as they then bake on the radiator. So that little project will not get done today.

Sound deadening/proofing. If you do a search on bedlining the tub you will see a lot of posts on it and the best way to remove.

Dang and I thought I read a lot of posts about the process and didn't recall anything about it. Now that you mention the sound proofing, that seems vaguely familiar... At least this is normal, that was my first worry! Thanks Basecamper!

I don't know but I do know I've never wanted so many mods for any other vehicle! The Dakota 4x4 never got much of anything but a bed liner and some all weather floor liners.

I think the most expensive thing I want is a new bumper, I like the stubby look better than full size and the bull bar just adds something to it.

Good thing my birthday and Christmas aren't too far away, I'll be hitting up my family for Jeep stuff it's already on my wishlist

Mykyll,

I have the SAME 2012.

Plus power convenience/side air bags.

sure ... I'll take some interior cloth pics tomorrow. They're doing the leather install first thing Monday morning, so I should have it back mid-day.
