I did that. It works.

* If you're interested, here's the short version:
  • After originally estimating "between $5000 and $6000" on sight for my trade, they dropped it to $4300 on delivery day. So now I have two vehicles and far less cash in the bank.
  • Called early in the week to ask that they not drill holes in the bumper. Bumper was drilled, they're so far refusing to replace it. "It's part of our process."
  • Salesman got tired and left me in the finance office before the deal was closed and went home, leaving the keys and owner's manual on the desk.
  • Major surfaces of Jeep were washed, but grit and grime in and around hinges and crevices. Roof was covered with dirt, hadn't been touched.
  • Less than 1/4 tank in the Jeep. I know it's not required, but a full tank is customary. Sometimes it's the little things, especially when added to the big things.
  • Etc.
But again, it's HERE and it's MINE.

Your dealer sucks!

My dealer tried to kill me on my trade in the day I went to pick my Jeep up but I busted their balls for an hour. They do that on purpose hoping that you'll accept whatever because you want the Jeep so bad. I told them that I didn't mind keeping my trade in and driving it home instead. It was a nice car, and there was nothing wrong with it. Then I started talking about getting a Camaro instead. Their tune changed quickly. But you have to be convincing and you can't try to force them.

The shitty wash job and no gas was just pure laziness and being cheap. As much as my dealer tried to bend me over on the trade in, they washed and cleaned it perfectly and gave me a full tank of gas. If my Jeep had shown up dirty I would have told them to keep it.

Once I was in the finance office, the salesman didn't need to do anything, but he stuck around and made sure everything went to my liking. Your salesman (and dealership) sucks. Better hope their service department is better!

Jeep Finally Here!

We become very happy owners of a 2012 Unlimited today. She travelled over 4000 miles to get here, but only had 9 miles on the odometer when we picked her up. That's my 10 year old daughter standing next to her.

I wanted everything done on order day. I got my deal on the Jeep in writing and I negotiated my trade for that reason, and because value would potentially go down more with another model year coming out. I gave them the car when I ordered. In hindsight, that could have been a disaster. If I had wanted out of the Jeep what would I have done? But, it worked out. I got rid of it, got the value I wanted on the trade, and saved 2 months worth of Insurance fees. They got an opportunity to sell it for two months before even having to pay for it, which helped me in my negotiation. Of course, I happened to have an extra vehicle, so I had that luxury.

Incidentally, my old GC is still there. They haven't sold it. It's still listed at way more than they paid me for it, but it also needed tires, and some other work. By my estimates, the current list price (after 2 reductions) is only slightly more than what I got + what I would have paid to get it fixed up.

My conclusion on all of this - trades on an ordered vehicle are just a pain. Either you take the risk up front or at receipt of the new vehicle. A shady dealer can mess with you either way if they want. But I'm glad I have an honest and easy to work with dealership.

Great looking Jeep. The Sahara Chrome wheels would not have looked good on my flame red JKU but they look great with the black body.

The dealer trade is the part that worries me. Luckily, I have no problem walking away. My Libby is an excellent shape, is paid for, has less than 34,000 miles on it, and isn't even my daily driver except in the winter.

I agree. I don't think the polished wheels would look as good with the red. We almost ordered the flame red Sahara, but changed our minds at the last minute. Great color though...

I feel your pain. Here's what I had to deal with as a salesman working for psycho owner!

When I was selling cars I worked for a dealership that had an owner that was a hands on PITA! Many customers requested we didn't put the plate on with a frame advertising the dealership. The owner fired salesman who didn't put the frame with the name on every car they sold. I asked customers to allow me to put it on or I'd be out a job, they all agreed. He also tracked internet activity, and recorded all incoming calls, then sat in the office with his GF and randomly played calls back, if you didn't answer the phone saying "{Arse-hole} Nissan {your name} how may I help you", then get their name and a contact number you were gone. Then we had to sign papers stating that we read this BS book about their company policy, sexual harassment, and that we wouldn't work for a competitor for 1 year after we left, lol. Keep in mind this was a car dealership not IBM. I never signed, the part about working for another dealer for 1 year! I was hired with the understanding that I wouldn't sign it. LOL

Non-competes don't hold up unless you are still being compensated.

I realized that, but still refused to sign it. It just shows what they try to get away with that's all. They hired me anyway, I was part of a team that moved to this Nissan dealership from a competitor.

Stopped by the dealer today to pick up my wheel and asked for a 2012 brochure just in case they had them. I thought they might since they are now available for download on the website. No such luck. I did find out that they were notiied this week that their brochures would arrive sometime in November. I still don't understand the logic in penalizing the owner's of 12s because you want to sell 11s. If you want to sell the 11s you should make them more attractive, not make the 12s less attractive.

KZ today! Should be loaded on the railcar tomorrow and at the dealership 10/07! If it all works out, that's less than a month from placing my order on 09/10.

The screws come with the Jeep. I told them not to put mine on since they still had my old plates from my trade. Then they put them on when I was there. We looked at all the 2011s on the lot and some they had put 4 screws in and some 2 top and some 2 bottom. I went with the 2 on top. There are little indents built into the bumper for all 4 but 2 of the indents are tiny...not sure why.

I guess I ended up having a decent dealer experience.

Negatives-
they offered $2800 under blue book
gave me plenty of typical stealer lines
only updated me once during the 6 weeks of waiting. (Luckily I had the insight website and this forum)

Postives
Never gave me the hard sell on warranties, undercoatings, etc. (actually only said, are you interested...I told him not now, I would come at a later date and give him a price I am willing to pay and he could take it or leave it.)

Honored my letter, only a few miles on it, no test drives and only the prep tech and salesperson driving it, and absolutely NO dealer stickers, plates, tire covers on it.

So while they didn't get answers for me when I needed them (thankfully I had you guys (and gals)) they were ok.

Now I can't wait for it to stop raining so I can take her for a spin with the top down!!

I had a similar dealer experience. That trade in hurt the worst. My 2012 was supposed to come in October but got it in august. Once I saw it was coming I tried to sell quick (2005 Rubicon, 58k) but ran out of time.

Trade in: 14,500
They Listed: 19,900

They sold in a week. Not sure for what.

dealer gave me the excuses like "Look at the scratches on the paint near the key hike, that's going to cost a lot to sand blast out (or some bs like that).. We put tons of time in our cars"... I drove by after hours when I saw it out front, they never touched the scratches or anything. Was exactly as I left it..

I'm still bitter but at least I have my new Jeep.. I know I'm luckier than a lot of you. (sorry Dominus). Just wish I could have put the extra 4-5k toward a lift and wheels or something... They made a killing off me...

I forgot to add that while they offered me $3500 for my old Subaru I sold it to the first guy on Craigs List for $5700.

Because I wanted to be sure and get more than the dealer offer and had to wait 4-6 weeks for my baby to be delivered I listed the subaru below blue book from the start. I told people I just needed more than the dealer offer and also needed a deal quick. I am a school teacher and knowing the start of the year was two weeks away I knew I wouldn't have time to show it much. The buyer was willing to wait 4-6 weeks because I gave him such a good deal. I still made about $2000 more doing this.

If took one day shy of six weeks for delivery and now all is good. I think I will have to take KC(my new JKU) up into the mountains for a photo shoot today.

My dealer experience wasn't bad. I went in, knew more than they did, put my order in. They never called me but I didn't care because ND kept me updated. The only thing that hacked me off was after it sat in the distribution center for 3 days I called the dealer and they told me they couldn't tell me when it would be trucked to them. 2 days later I called them again and asked for them to find out when I was gonna get my Jeep!!! Finally they called me back and said it would be trucked over on another dealers load because they didn't have a full load coming....had my Jeep the next day.... Deal was good, 2.49% interest, no extra warranties, no drilling in my bumper, no dealer stickers, and I was headed home. Was gonna trade in my Liberty Renegade edition but they only wanted to give me $2,000 for it...NOT! I sold it for $7500....Extra cash for me to do some mods....well....and some to put in the bank

I could not find a decent dealer close by so I ended up going with one 1.5 hours away.

The deal could not have been easier. Called them up told them what I wanted and that I would only pay 2% below invoice + 3% tax and $59 tag they said no problem and placed the order. (using Tread Lightly)

About a week before I sent them detailed pictures of my current Jeep along with specs and they quoted me a very fair trade price (they will make about $1500 selling it).

Went to the dealer to pick up the new Jeep handed them the keys for the old one plus a check covering the difference signed the papers and drove home.

Does not get any easier than that!

They are the only Jeep dealer in Newton, NC if you need a good dealer around there contact Chris or Bush.

Don't feel bad, we typically marked up good trades around $5,000 or better, most people don't realize that. Many cutomers hung themselves offering $2000 or more off the asking price of a used car. Many times the reply would be, "sure I think my boss will take that deal if you take it home today, I'll see". That should be a red flag in any smart customers mind! Boy did a lot of iron roll off the lot that way. The real money is in used cars, which is why I would never trade in a good late model vehicle.

dealer gave me the excuses like "Look at the scratches on the paint near the key hike, that's going to cost a lot to sand blast out (or some bs like that)..

Dude, idda gave yuh $16K cash if you'da called me.

Picked up my cabin air filters today and got them installed. When I ordered them on Thursday he quoted me $6.35 each with two required. When they came in they were packaged together and listed at $6.73 for the pair. An even better deal than $6.35 each and way better than getting ATC.

Latest update: Release From Industry today and will be loaded on the railcar tomorrow. Best part is the delivery to my dealer has been MOVED UP to 10/04! As seamless as my experience has been, it's shocking to heat about all the BS that some of the other forum members have reported.

The best to everyone still waiting...
