But if I have a manual and select the AHQ I do not need to override the 3.73 gears because the manual keeps the 4.10s. Am I confused (which is possible because I'm only on my first bloody mary)?
I'm with you on this . I understood Rubicons to have 4.10 gearing standard and it sounds like i misunderstood. When I ordered i did not discuss 4.10 gearing and don't know if there was an option for the 4.10 gearing. I'm in D1 and I cannot change but I'm not worried either if I end up with 3.73's. I figure with the new engine/transmission combo the previous issues with shift points/tire size become moot until we actually drive the Jeep and set new baselines. I did not order the tow package as I have something else to tow with and believe the new transmission will not have the temp problem that existed prior.

Any way I slice it my order is in and I'm rolling with it.

The throttle kill culprit is the traction control though so if you deactivate it using the button on the dash you should be good to go.

Huh!

I guess those of us with JKU Rubicons w/ auto will know in a month or two!

That's what I heard, the traction lock I have never let me down in snow. I guess you could go into 4L lock the differentials and get out if it was that bad.

I remember reading those posts as well. It was this reply by Milous that got me thinking.

If I were placing bets, I would bet on me misinterpreting these guys since they are dead on with this stuff.

Yea, they always have the inside and correct info!

So, re-reading, I think, maybe:

Pat's comments relate to the effect of adding a tow package... Rubi's don't change gearing with tow package:

but:

Milous is refering to auto trans. Rubi's with auto = 3.73, manual = 4.10.

Maybe?

There is a pop-up box that appears when a new order is placed and the Rubicon is selected. Have your dealer initiate a new order in the system to see the pop-up, or have him look at the new code guide - the option is listed as "DMF".

Whatever is provided should provide me with the best compromise for MPG's and performance and I should not need to run out to a gear store after climbing the first highway mountain or offroad trail.

I realize I am not a SME (subject matter expert) on gearing therefore I'll sit back and wait. There are some very steep and large mountains in the area so once I drive around for a bit it will be readily apparent if change is needed. Those that are jumping to larger tires right away will know sooner.

Couldn't edit can I quote myself?

Dealer found pop up stating 4.1 option on auto but no place to make choice.
Found no mention of DMF either. He has emailed his rep for more help. Any more advice?
Shouldn't be so hard for my dealer , or it is my dealer?

Here is an image of the order screen:

In the pop-up window it states that the 4.10 is standard with the 6-speed and that 3.73s are standard with the 5-speed:

DEH= 6-sp manual
DGJ= 5-sp auto
ERB= 3.6L

On the right side, under "Standard Features": "DME 3.73 Rear Axle Ratio".

When in the order screen and you go to "Options", there is no place to select "DMF" (4.10 gears). Not sure why, some quirk in the order system I guess.

On the new PDF code guide (dated July 1, 2011) it says the following (page 6 for Rubicon, page 12 for Rubicon Unlimited):

4.10 REAR AXLE RATIO (DMF):
4.10 REAR AXLE RATIO Optional with DGJ/ERB only.
4.10 is already standard with DEH/ERB.

It's not your dealer, there appears to be a quirk in the system that will hopefully be addressed/fixed soon, but most likely not until after the holiday.

Now that I'm totally confused, the Rubi comes standard with a 4.10 rear? If you order a Rubi with the AT and tow package it comes with either a 3.73 or a 4.10, you have a choice? A 4.10 would be better for towing.

Now we have a potential can of worms for those that anticipated specific gearing and due to system issues and understanding may not get what was expected. I wonder if there will be any remedy to those locked into D1 and currently unable to change?

The Rubicon 6-sp comes standard w/4.10s.

The Rubicon 5-sp comes standard with 3.73s... 4.10s are optional.

The Rubicon tow option in and of itself does not change the gearing.

Thanks Milous. This is good and important info.

I hear dealer phone lines lighting up as I type this. I was able to change a D status order (not related to this) but the dealer was required to call his/her factory rep. Worth a shot in this case.

I know nothing about gears but did something with the new auto trans cause this change or are they trying to squeeze every last MPG out of the new setup?

We'll know after the holiday. I guess my big question for all of you mechanical types: if you get the 3.73 it stills show 4:10 transfer case as standard, so wouldn't the axle have to match the transfer case?

ERB 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine
DME 3.73 Rear Axle Ratio
DMF 4.10 Rear Axle Ratio
DHW 4:1 Rock-Trac HD Part Time 4WD Sys

Hi, I just returned from the dealer. I was planning to order a 2012. I came across some glitches. I was planning on ordering an Unlimited Sport but I wanted the remote start, heated seats, auto A/C and 18" rims. I was told these items were only available if I moved up to the Sahara. This would mean roughly more then $3000 above the Sport after I include the Customer Preferred Package 24S. The Sport is about $27,790 with that Package, the Sahara is $30,745 including the 24G Preferred Customer Package that it appears to come with. Does anyone know what is included in the 24S package? And what is in the 24G Package? Is there $3000 additional value that could be justified? I did some checking just now and it appears as if A?C costs $895 and included with the Sahara. So difference is only 2k more. I know about the Painted Fenders but they cannot cost that much. I do like the remote, auto A/C &seats but!
Incidentally I learned that the Customer Loyalty from the Jeep GC which I am turning in at the end of August may not apply. It seems that the New car must be picked up by August 3rd, there is no way it could be ordered and received by then unless Chrysler extends the Program, which might or might not happen.
Thanks for any advise or thoughts.
Barrier

Didn't see this answered but I just got back from the dealer and the pricing on mine (not the unlimited but I think the S package is the same) was:
Invoice 1998
MSRP 2245

Finally ordered
Silver Sport S
manual
Infinity speakers
Tint
Dual top
Trailer tow
3.73 axle (is not included in trailer tow)
Anti spin

got invoice less 2% and no doc fees

Only the front and rear axle ratios have to match. The Transfer case ratio is 1:1 in high, and 2.72:1 in low (or 4.1:1 with Rock-Trac). A transfer case with any ratio could be used in a build.

Couldn't agree more. I'm still stalking a '12 JKU and this is severely addictive. Thanks to the regulars on this thread, I've learned a ton and feel like I dodged a bullet by reading through all the commentary before buying one on a whim (which I nearly did). Anyway, I'm going through USAA and they don't have '12 pricing yet, so I think I need to wait or at least talk to someone there to see how that can work. Between this delay and the actual build/delivery process I am many many moons away from driving this thing and it is making me crazy.
