2012 wrangler door problem

I'm new to the jeep world, and have just bought a 2012 4-door jeep wrangler. Everything seemed to be great, until i noticed that the front driver side and front passenger side doors don't close as smoothly as the rear doors (both sides). Whenever I try and close the door, they bounce when pushed lightly, and need a harder push to actually close the door. I always tell the passenger to re-open and close their door, since it wasn't closed hard enough. The (open door display on the dashboard tells me it wasn't closed fully). It really is bothersome and am thinking of taking it back to the dealer, is this normal? what should i do? Help would be greatly appreciated! I'm a newbie!

Take the doors off?

My 2012 doors are a bit tougher to close then a car door but nothing I can't handle, I think I have read other posts about it.

I was thinking the same thing! Did the jeep come with the tools required to take the hard-top and doors off? or must I supply that.

Get yourself a set of torx bits with a ratchet to remove the doors and top.

My doors were tough to shut when new
After a few months they are getting better
But still have to give it a firm pull since the seals are tight and the doors are light

No tools supplied , like posted above get a set of torx with a ratchet and leave in it

That's normal. If you grab the interior handle more towards the rear of the vehicle and pull it will close more easily. It does "break in" with time but the seal is better than a normal passenger vehicle. Also, check the door seals. Sometimes they'll stick and partially come out of the track. If you lightly wipe them with silicone spray from a rag they won't stick to the door jambs when closed.

With the hardtop on, they will always require more oomph than usual. Once your top is off or you run a soft top, they will close very easily. It's a Jeep thing.

Crack the window an inch or so and they will close a lot easier.

Check the rubber beading the goes around the door. I had this same issue with the front right door... I would just push it and sometimes it would even bounce back. Make sure the beading is properly seated / tucked how it's supposed to be. When it happenned to me, it was not an obvious sign... and I did not see the issue until it loosened further and there was obvious & increased wind-noise.

I have had my JK sport for about a month now and have the same issue, but not a big deal. I also found that keeping the windows cracked solves the problem, as does having the top off.

The wife says it's a good fit, because I slam doors all the time, but fusses because now the kids slam the doors on her CRV like they are in the jeep

I agree. The weatherstrip on my front passenger door has worked its way out twice now requiring me to push it back into the channel.

I think the doors are lighter than cars and the seals are better for a tighter fit (notice how the door bounces out when unlatched from inside?), the last door being closed always presents a bit of challenge, and since I usually am the only person there, I thought the driver's door was the issue, but if the window is cracked or the passenger door remains opened, the driver's door can be closed easily.

Now my family has been conditioned to pull hard with the JK doors, they start doing the same on the other vehicles, even the ones with soft close

Hubby's '11 JKU is the same way, it almost always takes me two times to shut the passenger door, IF all the other doors are closed. With the (hard)top off or the soft top on, I have no issues and I have learned to give it a good tug shut.

Normal operation. The dealer even pointed it out to me when looking at mine. Irritating yes. But not anything to give up the jeep over.

If you clap twice and do a 360 degree spin, they'll close better.

On a serious note, my 2012 requires the doors to be slammed too. It's the seals as everyone has been mentioning.

I have noticed the same issue with my Jeep. I have to remind my husband to close the door with some force when he rides with me, and I tell him "It's a Jeep. It can handle it!"

I'im out and about and I can't copy my icons, but

The front doors are especially tough to close with the hardtop, because of the "Freedom top" rubber sealing, at the front door tops !

I don't know how they act with soft tops--

As someone else pointed out, the doors on the Jeeps are lighter, less structurally sound than normal vehicles therefore there is less mass (or momentum) when shutting it. That plus new seals makes it tougher. I've had my 2012 just over 1 month now and it's already getting easier.
