I have the Warn skid under my TJ and that does a great job of protecting the oil pan and tranny. The OEM skid wasn't bad but a bit small and not really ready for rocks. The muffler is at the rear and pretty visible on the JKU and I didn't want it to look bad when it got banged up. Plus it really didn't cost me anything and it complements the rear bumper.

Soft/Hard/Dual Tops "Options" - someone please clarify.

I need some clarification about the different "Tops" options for the JKU (Sport)...

OK... according to Milous' 2012 Jeep Wrangler - Standard Equipment
(.pdf)... all models (except the Sport U RHD) come standard with the "BLACK SUNRIDER SOFT TOP (MX4)".

According to this thread the JKU (Sport) "Tops" options are as follows:
  • BLACK 3-PIECE HARD TOP $735 ($654) (n/c w/dual top group)
  • DUAL TOP GROUP $1625 ($1446) (S package only)
Is the Soft Top deleted if you order the BLACK 3-PIECE HARD TOP? If so... are they actually charging $792 ($1446 - $654) for the soft top, window storage and boot in the Dual Top Group?

$654 sounds like a pretty good deal for a hard top... but $792 for the soft top sounds a little steep. It seems to me that the Dual Top Group is a bit of a rip off. Just wanted to know if I'm reading this correctly.

EDIT: Wait... WOW, I just noticed that Quadratec is selling the Sunrider for $1530:
http://www.quadratec.com/advisor/jee....php?year=2011 maybe the Dual Top Group IS a good deal. I got my (new) Sunrider via Craigslist for $500 complete with windows.

Jeep replacement soft top application guide - Quadratec maybe the Dual Top Group IS a good deal. I got my (new) Sunrider via Craigslist for $500 complete with windows.
The hard top costs you $1446 to get in addition to the soft, so the hard top costs 1446. The price of the dual top group is 1446 MORE than the soft top only. So adding a hard top and not losing the soft top costs $1446.

Replacing the soft top costs 654. So the Hard top costs 654 more than the soft top. So yes the soft top VALUE is 792.

That doesn't make an expensive soft top in this case. It just makes a cheap upgrade to hard top. Because they are crediting you the value of 792 to let you get a hard top.

Upgrading to a hard top is a good deal. If you can add a soft top later for less than 792, then dual top group seems expensive.

But wait if you value the storage bag and boot (it comes with a boot? did not realize), and plan to get them then the equation changes more. The soft top boot from Mopar is pretty price I think.

I seem to remember seeing this somewhere... but can't find it now... probably misread with all the other info on this site...

The standard. Whenever I've gone to order they always said 6-8 weeks. That would be October. Could be sooner though.

Yes, two. And, the front seat center console cup holders are nice and deep. No more beer... uh, water bottles rolling around under your accelerator pedal.

Question (although trivial in nature) Is there a specific holder to use to mount a front license plate to the 12 JKU? I see 2 dimples to aid in placement, but I dont know if its a specific mount I should have gotten from the dealer or not. Thanks

You don't need those for the rear passengers. They will be salivating too much after feeling the power of the Pentastar to be thirsty. They will start drinking after you drop them off at their house and they realize they don't have a 2012 Wrangler.

Your dealer needs to provide you with a VIN. Once you have it, PM it to me and I will send you a link to tracking.

Mine came from dealer with front & rear license plate holders. CA requires front & rear plates. Don't know if that's why.

Thanks. When should the dealer have the VIN? When they submit the order, when Jeep accepts the order, when it's in queue to be built, other? I was told they would swap my order for one dealer had already in queue, so only a few weeks, but now does not appear the case. Ideally I want it yesterday, but if knew the actual date can plan accordingly. Tempted to bail and buy elsewhere and reclaim deposit with credit card co.
Just want a realistic ETA, vs. None! Thanks

Your dealer probably has the VIN now. I think it is assigned in C status. A general rule of thumb is that you will take delivery about 6 weeks after ordering. This would of course be delayed if there are errors with your order.

Beware that dealers will want to sell you a 2011 on the lot. I would expect a 2012 on the lot to sell as high as MSRP.

Does anyone know up to what status (i.e., D, D1, etc.) I can change a custom order? I'd like to add leather seats and the connectivity group, if possible. I tried calling my sales guy yesterday, however, he was not in. I believe I'm only in D status.

Thanks!

The dealer can't change it when you're in D. However, have him call their factory rep and ask for the change. Other have succeeded even in D1. the GM or sales manager may have to make the call.

We are required to have a front plate in Texas too. No front holder came with my '07 (original owner), just a couple of "dimples" on the lower side of the bumper to locate the screws as described above.
After scraping the plate off a few times I screwed down the upper side. Looks like cr@p, the plate is "rolled over" to accommodate the top screws.

2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited

Thanks Milous, great info
I just ordered my Rubicon Yesterday and was wondering if anyone knows what is included in the customer prefered package (Quick order package) 23R? I guess I could have asked the dealer when I ordered but, it slipped my mind. I ordered the jeep with all options except the smokers group, side airbags and leather. I'm pretty sure it is the power convienence group and maybe the engine block heater, since I live in Canada...lol.

It's just the Rubicon base package with a manual transmission.

Thanks for the reply, I more than appreciate it! I placed the custom order only 2 weeks ago and just found out this morning that I'm already in D1 status, with a scheduled delivery of next week! Does this sound correct? I was told it would take at least 8-12 weeks! Based on the Insight link below, I'll have my Jeep in just over 3 weeks! I still asked my dealer to try and make the change, but they basically said no way.

Vehicle Shipment Status and History

Thanks!

The future dates will change a lot. is it possible? Yes. Is it probable? I'd say no.

My delivery date was 7/21 then 7/25. Now it's 8/12. I'd go in fully expecting 6-8 weeks and be happy with anything less. They do seem to be moving better now, and it's kind of luck of the draw I think.

I just looked at your link... You went D1 the same day as I did and there's no listed progress on either of ours. I would not expect the schedule under the heading "Future" to be accurate. Mine pretty much looks the same and has not changed in a week.

I am trying to decide if I should pick up a 2011 (dealer and Jeep rebates = around $5000 off) or order a new 2012. Can I excpect paying the full MSRP on the 2012. I am getting a Unlimited Sahara. MSRP listed at $34,845 (Canada) how much will dealer knock off that, They have one 2011 left on lot.

Good question. I don't know if the Tread Lightly deal works for Canadian buyers... You should look into that as it will allow you to buy a 2012 at 1% below invoice...2% in some cases. This may influence your decision.

IMO, the 2011 two door is way underpowered and I'd imagine that the Unlimited is even worse. If you have driven it and are satisfied then that would help you make a choice. I could have gotten a 2011 at a good price...still can...but I opted for the 2012 order process to get the extra 85 HP. I found the two door JK to be pitiful on Interstates but frankly, not that bad around town.
