Well, we can start here...

Rubicon JK Dana 44 Axles - 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine

I'm wondering if the switch from air to electric is the cause of the confusion.....is the new axle like the Eaton version?

More info here:
http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-tech/d...ts-lockers-101

This is the maker of the Rubi axle on the JK:
http://www.gkndriveline.com/drivelin...ff-locker.html

According to the link, the axle CAN be mated with LSD, but we don't know if it IS...or if Jeep is simply using BLD in its place.

OK..more research.
The TJ Rubi axles had an air locker and also had LSD. The LSD that was used was called Power-Lok (Powr-Lok).

The JK Rubi axles DO NOT have LSD's. They are open diff's.

Jeep Locker Overview - Jp Magazine

This is what I've always assumed...but I've never gone back and traced the history until now.

Thanks so much for doing the legwork! Good stuff, and that answers the question. I wonder why they decided to go with the open diff? Anyway, Thanks for the info and answering my question. I've got a lot of time to decide what to do.

I feel your pain. I am scheduled for delivery Monday 10/03.

It changed several times. Does anyone know how long does PDI take at the dealership?

I ordered 2 jeeps on 9/7, one for myself and one for my in-laws. My in-laws jeep departed from the factory on 10/1 at 6:13AM. My in-laws jeep is a deep cherry red, sahara, JKU, auto, dual tops, connectivity group, max tow and remote start. My jeep is a silver, rubicon, jku, 6-speed, dual tops, connectivity group, max tow and heated seats. My jeeps is still in D status, and has been for the past 3-4 weeks.

Is there something holding up the Rubicon's? Or is the 6-speed holding up the production? My dealer or the 800# can't explain the delay on mine.

Thanks,
Matt

My dealer stated they only run a handful of Rubicons (and it seems even less 6 speed Rubicons) at each production run. I was in D for 3 weeks. From another Milous post this was the break out for week 1 of production

Sport = 19%
Sahara = 10%
Rubicon = 05%

Sport U = 16%
Sahara U = 40%
Rubicon U = 10%

Not much a person can do but try to be patient.
I was told, "Don't get too excited for about 3 months."
I'm sure I'll never order another vehicle. The wait is killing me.
Good luck and best wishes.

I wonder what the numbers are overall? Last I heard, unlimited were 60% of sales...but that number could have crept up to 66%.

The new engine and tranny (and updated interior from 2011) will probably bring in more SUV'ers...which will lead to more unlimiteds being produced.

Any help would be really appreciated, thanks guys.
Matador, I see that you posted this a few days ago. Sorry to be late with the suggestion. I live in CT, and we had a really bad winter last year too. I have a 50 min. commute work, and like you, I too have to be in no matter what.

I own a Grand Cherokee, and had a Wrangler Unlimited for a demo last year. Both the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler are excellent in the snow. I will say that the Wrangler was a bit more stable in the snow. The thing is a tank in the snow!

As far as needing a Rubicon...if you are thinking of a Rubicon only because of the snow, I think it is a bit overkill. If you are looking for the best value for a vehicle that is great in the snow, I would suggest a Sport 4x4 "S" pkg. I would use the extra savings to purchase really good snow tires. An S pkg that has the 17" wheels, along with aggressive snow tires will both look really cool and be great in the snow. Not to mention that you will save a lot of money over the Rubicon.

If you are looking to go with the Rubicon because you want a Rubi, than you should get what you want. I would suggest that you at least get a hard top. You will have the rear defroster and wiper blade for the snow. Plus plastic windows get easily scratched during snow removal.

Hope you find this helpful.

They usually only update them 1-2x per year. This year for some reason they released one in August and updated it in September. I wouldn't expect a new revision until next year sometime, maybe in Feb/March.
