Tinkering around this afternoon I remembered this thread and went in and took care of mine.
I did a combination of 3M adhesive Velcro ("soft" side) and a slight bend outward on the tubes to move them apart more.
If that slight bend relaxes for any reason there is still the padding there, so it's all covered.

Thank you!

I hope the factory has a crew monitoring this forum, sure a lot of information that would be helpful to the production line.

I never have heard this rattle, but, the fix is so simple and elegant that I did it today just for the heck of it. The first suitable material that came to hand was a very thick scrap of cork gasket material. Made a nice soft but tight fit between the pipes.

Thanks Rich, great contribution to JKers!

Rich, excellent post! I haven't noticed it yet but if it crops up, I have the fix.

Nice, thank You Sir. Every morning I've been hearing this and it's been bugging the hell out of me. What about using a small hose clamp as opposed to a zip tie? Is there enough room in there to pull that off? I'm leary of using a plastic zip tie on something that gets hot.

This noise has been driving me crazy for the last several days. Thanks Rich for posting this. I had a friend grab the pipes with a rag while it was making the buzzing sound and it stopped.

However, I wanted to post this for others... Mine seems to only make the noise when the Jeep is at normal operating temperature, and not at all when cold. Almost deterred me from trying the fix.

This should be a Jeep bulletin or something...after first off road excursion and 6,000 miles - I developed the squeak / rattle too. Jammed some pipe insulation material between the pipes where the turn/bend is and the annoying noise is gone.

I have a noise that I can only describe as a metal to metal ringing sound, like an old metal telephone ringer. I wonder if this is it? I'll try this fix, & post back later...

Just picked up my new Jeep yesterday, and it sat outside last night while visiting my parents. Started it up this morning to head home, and sure enough it made the rattle just as you described. I know what I am doing next weekend! Thank you very much for figuring this out and for the pictures. Great job!

Thanks for finding this old thread. I've been poking around for the source of my Noise for a bit. Just didn't want to let the dealer tear it apart. I'll be doing this tomorrow. One Vote For Sticky.

Thanks again for posting this. I just completed this fix, took all of 5 minutes. Very easy and hope this fixes the annoying rattle when accelerating. It's supposed to get down to 39 degrees tomorrow, so if it doesn't rattle tomorrow morning, then mission accomplished.

Well, was hoping this was going to fix the sound mine was making, and it has not. It did reduce it somewhat, but still does the noise as described in the first post on this thread until it is warm. I adjusted the hose and pushed it higher up the pipe last night, but rattled away this morning for about 10 minutes until the Jeep was warmed up. May have to try more hose along the pipes before I see the dealer. I am disappointed, only 500 miles on the Jeep and already issues. Hope this is not a sign of things to come!

I've had an annoying rattle that has gotten worse over the past several weeks (just got the Jeep back in March) and it always sounded like it was comming from the passenger side tweeter area and after having the dash apart and securing all the wires better the rattle still persisted. Well today after getting home from work I opened the passenger door and put my hand up on the trim and there was the rattle. It ended up being a loose 13mm bolt that was up around the sun visor, the other one was tight as well as both on the driver side, but I could hand turn the one and it was jumping up and down as I drove over bumps. I snugged it up nice and tight and poof rattle gone. I took the Jeep out and went over some nasty roads just to verify and that was the culprit. I feel relieved now that I finally tracked the rattle down, it was driving me crazy especially after trying every fix mentioned on this forum to no avail.

In any event this is one more thing for people to check.

UPDATE:

My fix stopped working a month or so ago. I tried different size radiator hoses to shove in there...nothing. I have now narrowed the noise down to usually happening when the ac was on and normal operating temperature. I took it to the dealer and they happened to have an engineer on site that day. He repositioned the ac lines through the firewall... Rattle is totally gone.

It gets louder as you put more load on the engine and goes away once the truck is up to full operating temperature.

Very interesting...I just picked up my 2012 Wrangler two weeks ago and my rattle/vibration noise started a few days later and sounds like it is coming from that same spot. And it is actually currently at the dealer being checked - for the second time...The funny thing is that when I drive it first thing in the morning after it has been sitting in the drive all night, the noise is generally not there, or very low, but after driving awhile and on my way home from work in the afternoon it's back full force and it has not been cold here at all lately. Buy it does generally starts around 1400 rpms.

The first time they could not locate the source for certain ,but did find a slightly loose heat shield and were hoping that that was all it was...not so...so I dropped it off again last night for them to look at today. Even though I took a mechanic with me for a test drive to demonstrate the noise when I dropped it off, someone still called me today to have me tell them again what the noise sounded like and go over all the details of it again. Apparently they didn't hear the rattle and had taken it out several times during the day. They have checked everything out and have told me it is fine. I'm pretty sure at this point they just want me to go away lol.

The mechanic today said he could somewhat hear the noise I was describing, but it certainly wasn't loud. I know the sound is still going to be there when I pick it up tomorrow though...I'm glad that the mechanic with me on the test drive heard it, and that obviously others have had a similar, because I was beginning to think the guys at the dealer thought I was imagining it...or that somehow this was my punishment for finally buying a Jeep after wanting one for 12 years

Guess I will find out in the morning if they were able to find any other explanations or fixes, but these posts have been very helpful to read and let me know that I am at least not going nuts and hearing things lol

I had slightly different symptoms but I do believe the root cause was the same. Mine would vibrate around 4-4500 rpms but only on certain days.. never was able to reliably reproduce it but since I did the fix, it's been quiet!

Question, those hoses get pretty hot.. anyone check theirs after and has there been any melting going on?

Not yet...the noise was still there when I picked it up but it had seemed to get quieter...now after driving it a week it kinda comes and goes lol...they've assured me there's nothing mechanically wrong with it so i decided to drive it for a bit and see what happens...

I'm planning on getting at it this weekend and see if my issue is the same as the above issue/fix and if this fix makes a difference....

Fingers crossed until then...

Hey, thanks for all the positive feedback everyone, glad my fix has helped some of you. To I like guns (the user name, though I'm also a firearms enthusiast)?... Yes, I've checked the hose material and it's been fine. Those were actually designed to act as the same fluid transfer tubes as the modern aluminum ones that are more common toda, so they won't melt. Happy wheelin!

Very helpful

This noise has been driving me crazy. Dealer told me it was a "normal" sound!

Thanks for the solution. I will implement asap.

Tried this fix yesterday in my 2012 JKUR that had the annoying cold morning rattle. This a.m. it was 20 degrees and no rattle. Thanks to the OP for figuring this out and posting it!

Did you only notice it on cold mornings? Wondering if it just hasn't gotten cold enough to affect it yet
