2012 Wrangler ordering early (Bloomberg/Allpar)?

It's been a while since we talked about our favorite vehicle

Allpar posted this interesting little bit today.
2012 may come early due to parts issues at Allpar Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep News

Based on Bloomberg's posting:
Chrysler Idles Pickup, SUV Factories in June to Conserve Parts From Japan - Bloomberg

I guess due to part shortages, they'll be ending 2011 and starting 2012 production of the Wrangler roughly 3 weeks early.

Does this mean that we'll get our rigs sooner?

There's a corrected news story on it at the Allpar site:

Allpar Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep News

According to the article ..."[d]espite the article, more reliable sources said that Toledo-built vehicles ó Liberty, Wrangler, and Nitro ó will not change their model year early."

Apparently, when I ordered my JK Rubicon last week, I pretty much got my order in at the "last minute" if they are going to end production of the '11 model year at the end of this month.

It doesn't change when I'll order my '12.

In fact, I'd prefer if they don't change the model year until June because I don't want it to arrive at the dealer too soon.

My budget is specifically based on delivery on 8/29 (or later...just not sooner).

Anyone think they'll make significant changes? Will it matter to you all considering you already have your Wranglers?

Is the Pentastar V6 a better option or should be ticked I am losing out on the 3.8?

There will be a new engine. Use the forum search feature to look for "Pentastar."

Not everybody here already has a Jeep here, and some who do are a few years in and feel inclined to trade. There was a significant interior redesign for 2011 that some folks really like.

I was speaking in generalities. I realize that not everyone here has a Jeep at the moment. I'm one of them.

New engine and a five speed automatic for the transmission. Slight increase in wheelbase because of this.

First I've heard of a wheelbase change. How did you come by that info, if I may ask?

We drove the Grand Cherokee with the Pentastar and it was a beauty. Nice pulling power and very smooth transmission. Not sure what transmission will be on the 2012 Jeep but the Pentastar is a nice engine. We chose the 2011 JKU as we needed a set of wheels and wished for more "go go" but will survive without the upgraded engine. Cool is way more fun than fast. Many in our neighborhood have said "I saw your Jeep..." no kidding all Yellow - only one in the area I would bet.

I believe that I will be waiting for the 2012. Unless the perfect combo exists still available for sale.

Then stay as far away from Jeep dealers as possible .

I was going to wait for 2012, and dropped by the dealer one day to "just look."

I didn't see anything on the lot that I liked, but as I was driving off the lot I noticed they were backing a black JKU into the showroom. I decided to go have a look. It was the first Black Ops Edition I have ever seen. I fell in love and drove it home that same day.

Upcoming changes in the Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep lineups

"...would move the engine (Pentastar V6) forward to fit the five-speed WA580 transmission in (itís three inches longer than the current four-speed automatic). "

Pretty sure there's space in the existing engine bay for this?

DetonatorCanuck, Love the profile pic. Can you post full size pic(s). Haven't gone to dealership yet for reasons mentioned above. Know what I want now pretty much anyway by lurking on here, soaking up information. Thanks All!

Thanks! From the link (bold is my doing)

"oh2o confirmed that the wheelbase on the two-door 2012 Jeep Wrangler will go up by a tenth of an inch, and Bob Sheaves wrote this meant that they would move the engine (Pentastar V6) forward to fit the five-speed WA580 transmission in (itís three inches longer than the current four-speed automatic). That could make it easier to give the windshield more an angle for aerodynamics (as was announced earlier).

A diesel is being looked at, but needs to pass emissions at reasonable cost. An updated transfer case may appear, possibly bringing back a full-time setting for broader market appeal. Sheet metal changes will improve aerodynamics (strong chance of major windshield and front end redesign). There is a chance of some sort of "stripped" model as production line can now apply bedliner to tubs during assembly. Better quality is also expected."

Keep in mind that those are just guys on the internet like us. It's no different that someone here saying, "MTH reports the new 2012 will be available in lime green." Allpar is NOT a Chrysler web site. It's a site very much like this one. They take things that are said on the forum there and put it in the main section so it may sometimes appear as authoritative when it is actually speculation.

This just in:

Allpar reports on good authority that at least one source has confirmed that the new 2012 will be available in a new "lime green" color. It could perhaps be the first inklings we've heard of the long suspected "Margarittaville Edition," which would replace the spot in the special edition line up previously held by the Islander. Other features would include a salt shaker shift knob. Read complete story here.

here is a larger version. The all yellow is a very rare machine in my parts. I have not seen any of them and only found 3 withing 200 miles. The colour was discontinued last Fall.

This is the Google search I used - finds only those with the coloured roof. Switch your desired colour in place of Detonator Yellow
"Detonator Yellow 3-Piece"
