2012 Wrangler Pen Star engine

Can you believe that in 2012 they will be putting the pen star engine in the the jeep wrangler.
What do people think of the engine in it now?
The new engine is the one that is in the jeep cherk.
More horsepower and a little better mpg.

I too am sitting the fence on whether to buy an 11 or wait for the 12. More hp and mpg is enticing, but at what if any trade off. That's the big question!

I don't get why any talk of the new engine brings out such rage in some people. When you ask almost anybody, not just Wrangler owners, what they would want to improve, they'll almost always start with improved performance. The Jeep is now slated to get one of if not the most significant performance boost in its history and you have some people on the forum acting as if its a bad thing.

I test drove a 2011 and decided to wait for the 2012, why is that so bad in the eyes of some people? Some of you act like you'll never own anything newer than a 2011 model. I don't get it.

I think it is more of the fact that there are a million threads on this and people don't search before posting new threads.

Who is acting like that? No one I've seen.

What I've seen in previous threads is merely a backlash when those that decide to wait for 2012 post comments about how stupid everyone else is for NOT waiting, as if everyone should feel exactly like they do, and they're wrong for not feeling that way.

Don't be too upset, this subject (Pentastar Wrangler Engine) has been kicked around a lot of forums for over a year and some people are just sick of talking aboutit-so they "TALK ABOUTIT"--

The new engine, nor any of the improvement to the Wrangler, is not a bad thing. In fact, I hope it's a fantastic success. I'm all for it and I think that is how just about everybody feels.

The problem is that many of the folks fantazing about the next engine do so in a way that implicitly (or expressly) trashes the current set up. It becomes "What you have sucks, I'll have something better."

It would be no different that if I posted in the TJ or YJ sections asking how anyone could possibly stand having such technologically inferior Jeeps. Or if the Austrailian and European Jeepers with diesels asked how anybody tolerates the ghastly gas mileage of either 3.8 or the I-6. Or if those with Hemis or superchargers told us all (including next year's pentastar people) that our Jeeps were merely sad shadows of their vastly superior rigs.

It's simply antithetical to Jeeping generally, and so it is poorly received.

Here is my take, I will be looking to buy a new Call of Duty or Rubicon 2011 in about 3 months. The vehicle that I want is at P O'Connell's dealership right now.It has a sticker of 37,025.95(something like that).I thought to myself,"gosh thats alot". Should I wait for the 2012??? Well if the 2011 is 37 something ,WHAT IS THE 2012 going to be????? 42,000??? 44,000??? Thats to much for a Jeep.

I agree, the Jeep should have a better engine and more HP,because its competitors are increasing HP,Chrysler has to act.BUT at what price???? I think I'm going to buy a 2011,and sit tight.

Also, I believe the transmission will be improved for 2012.That is good.

I'm a little bit behind the times but it's still hasn't been confirmed and official yet right? (help me out here guys) that is what has bugged me. All these people acting like they know something we don't and it's all been speculation. I do hope for a success in a new engine! I'm all about more power but don't believe everything you read on the net. There's too much rumor and speculation!

Disclaimer: if I'm wrong and it is official then I'll crawl back under my rock and breathe in my ignorant bliss!

Damn you! I'm taking my popcorn and going home! My comment about when everyone was assuming still stands. That drove me nuts. Now it doesn't have to I suppose.

Car shows will only show 2011 models not 2012.
