2012 Wrangler / Pentastar

Has anyone heard about the 2012 wrangler that is rumoured to include the pentastar engine?
I am sure you have, but I have another question--
Will the AEV air filter provide more horsepower? I heard the stock paper filter causes hood flutter, gears to pop out of place, leaky roofs, and some other stuff that I forgot about at the moment....

I just wonder what motor it will have in 2016 when my daughter told me she gets my Jeep and I have to buy a new one. If Fiat ever sales Chrysler will it get to keep the messiah motor? Never know what will happen a few years from now. Just hope they don't make it battery operated.

Seriously though, I do hope the 2012 at least addresses the lift issues. Not sure what transmission/transfer case it will use but hopefully the shield doesn't cause issue with the axle joints. I also would like to see better gearing. Would love if they added something similar to the rubicrawler where you could select multiple gears but not as extreme as the rubicrawler itself. I think that would be a great new feature.

The '12 will be the greatest Jeep ever!!

It will go 30 miles on the amount of methane contained in a single mouse fart, not need any skid plates whatsoever because it will come standard with LASERS that will destroy any and all trail hazards (I can't wait to see the illegal mods for that!!), and come standard with ego security.

This last feature is the most exciting.

The 2012 will have Jeep-forum monitoring technology designed to protect its owner's comfort with his/her decision to not jump the gun and get a MY 2011 or older Wrangler.

How does it work? If a libel or slander against the pure awesomeness of the PStar is detected online through the NEW NV-HAL9000.head unit, it will drive to the author/source's place of residence (the PStar's owner is asleep and totally unaware of course) and 'inappropriately' assault all the vehicles parked in the original poster's driveway.

Afterwards, it will go to the mall to swing by The Gap for some cable-knit sweaters and a belt before heading back home to make its owner breakfast and warn him/her that the police may be stopping by in a bit because they have (no doubt) heard how awesome the 2012 Wrangler truly is!!

Fall 2011 - the reckoning begins!!!!

or

The *ALL NEW* 2012 Jeep Wrangler ... it would be VERY unwise not to wave.

You sure the laser is to destroy trail hazards? I heard it was there to take out Hummers. I guess they can't advertise it like that. Maybe thats the confusion

That's all part of the aftermarket mod scene

Like I said, I can't wait...

I should warn you all in case you didn't know this about me: I am a prior TJ owner (x2) and one of those holding out for a 2012.

But I'm not in the clique that's dissing the 3.8l. It's not a bad engine for the application under which it is used.

My holding out is for budget reasons (I want to keep the same car payment I have now without increasing it). To do that, I need to save until the end of August.

At that point, I will have ordered the 2012 earlier in the summer and have the chance to see both a 2011 and the 2012 before taking delivery.

If the 2012 is lame, I'll search for a good used 2010 or 2011 and go that route if a *perfectly equipped* new 2011 is not out there to be had.

People love their Jeeps. It's an extension of who they are and (at least) I understand that. To have some stranger/3rd party come along and diss your ride is as lame as talking smack about your mom.

As a *potential* 2012 owner, I vow to not be like that ... BUT if I do get the '12, I am going to post a hood-raised pic of her 3.6l with the Photoshop'd words 'MONEY SHOT!!!'

BTW, smaller engine = more room for airtanks and PA horns!

I was just out in my 2011 and saw a TON of folks out cruising around in their imaginary 2012s. It looked to me like most of them were already lifted....must come from the factory that way.

I'm sure they were passing the older Wranglers like they were standing still.

For Cereal Guys

From what I've read, not only will the 2012 equip the Pentastar V6, but also the 5.7 HEMI. These accounts also stated that the mpg ratings were 15/23 and 14/20, respectfully.
My opinion, not a big enough difference in efficiency not to opt for the V8...

Man, I need to read some of that stuff you're reading.

That would be awesome. Not happening. But awesome.

I don't know, I see it as feasible. Jeep has pretty much mastered all the aspects of the wrangler, I think they've been testing this option with the GC. I mean come on, the ONLY thing you can't call a wrangler, is fast! I don't know though, we shall see!!!

I think you can buy an AEV outfitted jeep through the dealerships now. All aftermarket equipment, including their hemi.

That is true, I did see that. My only concern is the mpg rating. Being that it is an aftermarket kit, it won't be in-tune as it would coming out of the factory. Plus, who wouldn't wait to see what the next model has to offer if they were in the market for new?...

"Feasible," yes. It even makes economic sense--why let Burnsville or AEV take the cash from everybody who's willing to spend $60k for a new Jeep with a new Hemi? Logic dictates that Jeep should offer a limited production "Wrangler SRT8" or some such thing. They could charge $50k and they'd sell every one they made.

My suspicion however is that Jeep is actually precluded from doing this at a regulatory level. A high center of gravity, short wheel base, convertible with removable doors and mud tires coming with a 400 hp engine?? No way. The Feds aren't interested.

Just to let you know, the new 3.6 engine is DOHC, so it's actually much larger than the OHV 3.8.
