Better get that changed. Could blow up :P

Agree.

You do need to realize that this is a JK tech forum, and any member with a problem with their JK is going to come here and ask or comment about it. So, you're getting a very skewed, anecdotal view of the latest model having lots of problems, especially with the whole 'new' drive train. As is said too often, nobody posts that they drove their JK today and nothing happened......

In just about 3 - 4 months, the 2013 order banks will open, and the focus will shift from the 2012 and our shakedown experiences. Then we can all bust chops with the 2013ers and their lemons.
Very true. Problems are always more out spoken than great things because we're off using our jeeps for those great things (most of the time) rather than surfing the forums trying to figure out issues!

1. I have 1,300 on my 12JKR. The airbag light on the dash goes on and off when ever it feels like it (has side airbags too). It has been doing this since I took delivery in Oct. The dealer read a code when the light was on and is dealing with Chrysler. They will call me. That was four weeks ago. My wife has an 08 JKUR with the side airbags and she has never seen the airbag light come on.
2. When I remote start the Jeep the first time in the morning the horn starts honking. The dealer couldn't duplicate the problem because it doesn't do it when you remote start it after it is warm. I will have to leave it overnight at the dealer so they can remote start it when the engine is cold. Maybe will leave it at the dealer when they think they can solve the airbag light problem. At the moment I just don't remote start it. Other than these two things, I love it.

2012 Jeep Wrangler cant be much of a lemon as the sales are going thru the roof!
  • From The latest Jeep stats:
  • Jeep Wrangler sales (9,319 units) improved 22 percent in February compared with the same month last year (7,636 units)
  • The Wrangler registered its 22nd-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains in February.

First kid on the block with one. Modded that crap out of it, and 4k miles later not one issue. This thread is obviously started by the competition

I may buy yet another one in September. It'll be a '12 or '13 JKUs depending on what the deals are.

JKR auto w/ 4.1. Not a single problem at 6k miles, and get 19-20 mpg. Started life being driven from east coast to northern NM. The perfect vehicle for where I live. No mods required.

BTW, no one ever waves at other Jeeps around here. There are sooo many Jeeps that your arm would fall off after about a week.

2012 rubicon, had it since August, 09-11 build date...Not a single issue since I've owned it...

Hope your problem gets resolved, but you're in the small minority. As others have stated here, you get a skewed sample on forums because this is where people go to discuss/troubleshoot problems...every other joe schmo who is out living life in their wrangler typically isn't getting on forums to report that they're having no problems.

Yeah, I've noticed that here too I FINALLY got my first wave yesterday from a brunette in a TJ! Woo Hoo! What's up with all these Dallas folk talking on their phones and texting in the middle of their steering wheel instead of waving at other Jeep drivers?!!

I don't think there's any more problems with the 12 than other years. I certainly think some people are taking great joy in the slightest issue and making it a bigger deal than it is. I think the 3.6 and the new auto trans have been a great success in the Wrangler which is highly important to it's continued success.

Just wondering how many 2012 jeeps have been sold and how many have had the ticking head problem? No problems here at 750miles but now Im paranoid.

I wouldn't get worried. Seems as though everyone here who's had that issue, it was replaced under warranty and they haven't had further issues.

I think that mine sneaks into the house at night, and steals money out of my wallet. Other than that, no issues yet that I have not caused.

So when are you going to stripped yours down and get into a '12 Daggo?

Only issue I thought I had was the ticking left bank,,,,,, and it sounds just like every other 2012 I have heard.

Even just like the NEW ones people had replaced!

Love it !!!

Good news is the 2012's can go 88 MPH for the first time in Wrangler history.

Like it was already stated once, Penistar envy.

Penty is a beast, but my 3.8 will bury the needle at 99....not really impressive.

I see no need. My 3.8 with the manual transmission runs and performs great. No need to switch just to get the ticking time bomb.

It can't be stealing when it is a known part of Jeep ownership, it's just taking it's share.

I've had nothing but problems with my 2012!
I drive way too much now, and it's costing me a lot of money in gas!
I'm constantly late to work because I take the long route there to spend more time in it!
My hair is always messy because I refuse to keep the top on!
All I do is throw money into this thing, and the more I do, the more I find myself needing to throw more money into it for something related!
And to top it all off, it makes the wife jealous!
NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS 2012 I TELL YA!

My driver side head was replaced under warranty. I was a ticker!

The pattern has been pretty consistent on this issue:
1. If you don't have a check engine light (CEL), the dealer isn't going to do much.
2. If you do have a CEL related to ticking, its probably a P030X and they'll reset it once and send you on your way.
3. If the code repeats, they order you a new head, it comes within a week, and you get your Jeep back a day or two after that.

I really have to give Chrysler high ratings for the warranty work. No hassle; good repair.

1,000,000nth Penstar Engine Produced

Just 18 months after production kicked off, the millionth Pentastar V-6 engine was assembled today at the Chrysler Group’s Trenton, Michigan, Engine Assembly Plant.
“The Pentastar engine is a cornerstone of Chrysler Group’s effort to reinvent its business model with world class quality products. This award-winning engine is proof that the Company is transforming it products to meet the needs of our customers,” said Brian Harlow, Vice President, Head of Powertrain Manufacturing, Chrysler Group LLC. “To build one million of anything, and in an impressively short amount of time, is a significant achievement. But to do it with such a high degree of quality is a testament to our skilled and dedicated workforce at both Trenton South and Saltillo engine plants.”
The 60-degree, V-6 engine, the most advanced six ever produced by Chrysler, is offered in 11 Chrysler Group vehicles. The all-aluminum Pentastar is standard or available on the Chrysler, 200, 300 and Town and Country; Dodge Avenger, Challenger, Charger, Durango, Journey and Caravan. This year, it’s also standard on the Jeep Wrangler.
Just recently, the Pentastar V-6 repeated as one of the “10 Best Engines” following evaluation and testing by editors of Ward’s Automotive magazine.
