I bought a new 2012 Unlimited Rubicon and I generally love it. But, I had a bad seal on the right front axle (factory blip) that showed up after only a few hundred miles. And I posted earlier about the engine temp issues with the Pentastar.

I traded in a 2007 JK Sahara two-door for the 4 door Rubi. The 2007 had no problems. Only issue it ever had was the solder on the rear window defogger wire came undone. It was a great (but gutless) machine.

The Pentastar engine is great, but I think it runs a little hotter than the old 3.8l. Maybe the fancy engine cover shroud holds too much heat in the engine compartment.

Also, really love the interior upgrades -- quieter ride, much more comfortable center console/armrest, and great to have a left armrest.

I had a rattle with my heat shield I fixed that with a bend. That was day one. I should of tired to fix my door leak but I was stupid and let them make it worse.

I have nearly 1600 miles on mine and I've owned it since 5/16. The biggest problem I'm having is that I can't seem to stay out of the damned thing!

Ditto! I've only had mine for five weeks and already just turned 2000 miles yesterday...and no problems (yet...knock wood).

I picked mine up April 13th. So it's been almost 2 months and about 1K miles. Not a single issue or problem yet.

I bought my 2012 a week before Thanksgiving, 2011. I have been very pleased so far. No issues and I am not actively looking for one. Will keep you guys posted!

I hope not for the sake of current owners and resale, but the jury is still out for another six months or so. Either the engine issue will turn out to be a fixed non-event, or it will tarnish the '12 legacy. only increased miles and / or Chrysler engineering and Consumer Relations will tel the story. Chrysler is highly motivated to get it right.

When I see an OP being a troll I like to look at their forum profile and see how many forum friends they have. Give it a try on this one.

Lemon? Not necessarily. I think that, even though this is an "enthusiast" site (or because of it), you will hear of more issues making it seem disproportionate. Just because there is an issue (random pick - engine ticking), doesn't mean it's a fleet-wide issue. You will have the original poster, plus a lot of people who guess at issues (some may even be right) from; it's OK to nay-sayers who back the great Jeep cover-up of 2012.

You are on a forum where people discuss their Jeeps and the issues they may have with it. As the information age rolls along and more people get online, you will see more "specialty" websites dedicated to personal interests.

I personally don't think there is an noticeable uptick in overall issues with the '12 than there were with the prior years. I think you are more aware of the issues because you read these issues on Jeep specific forums. Go over to the Camaro forum, and I'll bet you won't find any issues with the 2012 Jeep line-up there.

This place would be pretty dull if all that people posted were posts like, "I started my Jeep up today, and it ran fine, and did everything it was supposed to do."

I have had my 2012 Arctic for 6 months. I had (and still have) the 4th
gear shifting issue. The dealer replaced the boot which did not fix it.
In May a coil went bad and had to be replaced. I asked them to check
the 4th gear shifting issue again too. They replied they could not reproduce it. I guess I'll have to demonstrate it for them as it's very
easy to reproduce. They must not drive it very far during a test drive.

I work for a dealer, never have seen a 2012 wrangler in here yet for anything, nor have any of my customers had any issues. Not sure what you're getting at. The cherokees have the problems lol.

Just hit 2k miles in 2 months...issue free! My biggest problem is hiding my aftermarket parts from the wife and the fact i'm going broke modding this thing.

My wife and I now both own the "minivan engine" RUBICON and we both have a smile on our faces that is hard to wipe off.....of course both are standards and have plenty of pep. Hers more than mine but she is missing two doors. I'm guessing that the reduced weight is the reason for the added peppiness on hers. Still wouldn't trade my JKUR. She likes the "shortness" of hers.....says it suites her as she doesn't like driving mine as much as hers. I'm just happy that she is happy with hers. Every vehicle is a potential lemon. It is how you react to it that is important. I bought the second 08 a month ago knowing full well what issues there has been with jeeps in general and that year in particular. Hers has the gas overflow problem. It is being addressed by the used vehicle dealer that I bought it from. I know it is out of warranty for any leak issues. Anything with leaks I will take care of.....very carefully....with purpose....working with tried and true fixes....after reading a lot about it in the many references available for leaking jeeps. I think lemon is a term relative to how new the vehicle is. New vehicles having a lemon flavor are normally taken care of by the dealer and sometimes the manufacturer gets involved in the more serious cases. Occasionally there is the buyback. I've experienced one buyback on my first jeep and Chrysler made a happy camper out of me otherwise I wouldn't have gotten the second 08. My wife looked to me on that purchase. She wouldn't have entertained the purchase if I hadn't given the blessing on it. So I would say lemon is relative. The important part of the purchase is what do YOU want?

Exactly. I drove a 3.8L and personally, I didn't have an issue with it. I wasn't buying a Jeep to use as a dragster, and as far as I'm concerned, whether it was the 3.8L or the 3.6L under the hood, my JKU is an absolute slug. I'd love to know where these JKUs are that are running 0-60 in 7.2 seconds, because mine would be hard-pressed to see 0-60 in anything under 8.0 seconds. I don't feel like there's a problem with the engine being sluggish, but more like the shifts are long and things just take a lot of time, not to mention the 4500 lb curb weight, probably not including fluids and certainly not including passengers. 285 hp/260 lb-ft tq just don't make for real snappy acceleration in a 4500 lb+ vehicle.

My car was destroyed and I needed a vehicle. If the 3.8L was still under the hood for 2012, that may be what I wound up with. Other "options" would have been to keep my fingers and hope my POS Camaro got me around for the next couple of months until I was able to order a 2013 model with a 3.6L.

3.8L, 3.6L, I don't give a damn...

My wife and I own a 2011 and a 2012, so we know how both react to anything from crawling to using it on the interstate. While her 3.6L definitely has a lot more get up than my 3.8L, I have zero issues with either one. They're both perfectly fine for what we're using them for. The added power of the 3.6 is pretty nice, but I'm good with my 3.8. I can always do some engine upgrades and chip later.....

Update:

4200 miles still running strong no issues. Just drove 1000 miles to Colorado for vacation and spent yesterday wheeling a hard trail, 4 low, first gear all day (7 hours), drove like a champ. Not a single issue.

Still have several more days of wheeling then 1000 mile trip home.

Best Jeep i have ever owned.

There are probably many more 2012's that don't have problems than do. We just hear about the problem ones.
