Hey guys,
Thought that I would start this thread in anticipation of the 2013 Anniversary Rubicon.
Im excited to see what Jeep has come up with to make this Rubicon "limited".
Hopefully its more than just some AEV bolt ons like the COD was.
Please feel free to post what you believe it might look like or any info you may have on it.
Hopefully Pat will post some info this month on this thread about the new Rubi.
If this Rubi is as great as I hope, Ill be trading my fully moded 2012 JKUR in on one.
Does anyone know if the steering wheel radio controls are on the back of the steering wheel? I'm looking at the picks of the wheel, but not seeing buttons for the radio. I believe I read that the radio controls are on that back of the wheel but cannot confirm.
Anyone have much experience with aftermarket air intakes? I'm thinking about getting the Injen one ... Do they noticeably help with power or gas mileage?
I'm joining some of the others in ordering parts on a vehicle that I have no idea when I'm getting ...
Ok got a question to go with FAP earlier post. I should have read this forum before ordering my 10a but its too late to cry about my bad decision. I went to a couple jeep dealer back in Feb. 2013 looking to purchase a new 2d JK. Actually, at the time i did not even know 2d or 4d. this whole thing has been so very stressful when it should be fun. Never even thought or heard about the 10a. I thought I was going to buy a fun brand new jeep for around $25k which is just going to be used on the weekends since I have a company car and work out of town during the week. The first couple dealers were not that helpful but after looking it seemed like spending some extra money and buying a Rubicon was my match. The last dealer I stopped to look at a rubicon I called about by the time I got there someone was test driving it. I started talking with the Sales Manager who said why don't you order what you want. Next thing I know we are talking about the 10a and he is showing me pictures. Finally here comes my question part. I have never ordered a vehicle before and I figured I was buying to best jeep model which is the Rubicon. So when he was putting in my order as we sat there he said what options you want, I said automatic, Nav and dual tops. He told me the price and the way we went. I read this forum non-stop since but never got into the detail until it was too late to change my order so my jeep shipped last Friday, 2d, anvil, black seats, 430, dual tops. I am totally pumped to get my new jeep but I would have got the tow package if I would have known it was only an extra $300 and I would have got the 4.10 gear if I know it was cheap. So after this long post, question is can I still tow with adding a hitch and can I put 33" tires if I want? I am more of a stock type of guy and would not change the tires until my first set wear out and I probably will not get a small utility trailer for a year or so but for the extra couple dollars I would have added these options. It drives me crazy that I did not check every single available option, but I knew about the added side air bags, remote start, color top, auto ac and even though there are nice options I was already at the top of my budget. I should have looked into it better but thinking I am buying the toughest stock Jeep they ever made that I would not think about these options. Thanks for this great forum it has been fun seeing everyone comments. Good luck!
You'll do fine towing and putting on 33s with the 3.73 gearing, and you can easily add a hitch, even the Mopar one just like you'd have if you got it installed at the factory. No biggy. You'll do fine if you go off road with 3.73s also, no worries.
I know everyone is watching VOTS but I don't believe it's that reliable. I have read the same in other threads on here, people taking delivery and VOTS isn't even showing it built.
I received 4 emails from VOTS
3/13 your order is being processed
3/14 your vehicle is scheduled for production
3/25 your vehicle is beginning to build
3/28 your new vehicle is built
On 3/28 it was at the dealer!
I would ask your dealer for the estimated delivery date. My salesperson couldn't get this she had to get it from the guy that does the actual ordering for the dealership. It's not the same screen the normal sales person can access I guess. Then they wanted to make sure I understood this was an estimate date, not for sure, don't get my hopes up. Mine was due in next week per the computer and it arived the day after I asked for the date. My salesperson was waiting for 5 vehicles that were sold orders (not all jeeps) and they all were due next week...they all came in on the 28th.
Not sure how it works but it's not an exact science thats for sure!
Never realized that the 430 & 730 radios have been out for over five+ years. Talk about getting old technology. I ordered the 730, but now I am thinking that I should have gone with the 130 and upgraded to an after market. Played with the new radio on the 2014 GC at the NT auto show. That was slick. Too bad out 10a's weren't getting that.

The 730 is great for the traffic feature and weather radar. But my mobile phone is insanely more powerful and useful (and cheaper than these nav units even without a contract). Just think how on the iPhone when you route a destination how it gives you a preferred and two alternate routes to choose from. I think all vehicle nav systems will eventually become dummy terminals that link with our phones and/or augment them in some way. These nav systems we have in our JKs already look like 8-track players compared to our mobile phones. My last JK had the 730, and I swear I kept cutting my finger on the edges of the giant pixels. My current JK has the 130 and I like it so much better. Real buttons
I think I've looked thru everything in the new jeep and I have not found any instructions for the bumpers. Nothing about an optional rear tire carrier, nothing about the endcaps. I know it's pretty obvious but I figured the lawers would make them put something in there about removing the endcaps is for offroad only or something like that.
By the way you need a torx 50 for the endcap bolts. The other bolts on the bumper by the winch plate and elsewhere are torx 30.
So you are correct each state varies on the way their law is written, typically you can not alter a bumper to be smaller then it came it its original state. However, some do say that it must cover both wheels... Regardless I highly doubt a police officer knows and/or can enforce any such law. There is no statue for them to use to penalize such a crime.
This being said I will be removing end caps and not having a front plate in a state that requires it.
You are giving some erroneous advice. Each owner should check their own state's statutes. In many states that can be an equipment violation and IS enforceable by statute, possibly could qualify as an "unsafe" vehicle. I don't know what would make you think that there would be no statute to allow enforcement of such an infraction. Depending on the jurisdiction, an "unsafe" vehicle may be impounded. You can expect any police officer that works in an area that sees much off-road vehicle traffic to be knowledgeable of these statutes. It will especially be a concern if you are involved in a crash and found to have an "unsafe" vehicle modification. Whether the front bumper was actually a variable in the crash or not, once deemed "unsafe", it will open you up for civil liabilities due to the fact that the vehicle should have never been on the roadway in the first place.
Not trying to argue with you, just don't want to see anyone get jammed up unnecessarily.
There was a link in a much earlier post in this thread somewhere about this that had each states rules for bumpers. I do remember that Oklahoma and Texas where I do most of my wheeling now do not have any weird laws about bumpers having to be as wide as the tires. Pretty sure California did not as well. I will try and find it and repost it for the late comers.
Should have said that was all purely my opinion... But yes stubby bumpers are all illegal because of lack of protection and in case of an accident you can be sued for anything...
I've never had any trouble with my previous rubi or been fined for some unsafe statue (knock on wood)...
So no front plate or end caps... You can still wave if you see me
Well been looking for the post on the bumper width laws and looks like the info was found as I was searching. Anyhow here is a link with Ohio as the state picked since it has some pretty good detail on bumpers.
Any forum members like to describe their setup for a garage hoist and storage?
I ordered the dual top group with the idea that my soft top will eventually become a ragtop in the Florida sun; having the oem hardtop would come in handy later on, and would also be an asset for the winter season -- almost like having 2 different jeeps. Being new to Jeeps, I just learned here that I cant remove my soft top without taking off the hardtop facepalm:Surprise!:facepalm, I ordered an unlimited so a garage hoist might come in handy at this point. Or other alternatives that fellow jeepers use for easy removal.
I also will need a storage solution for the Hardtop and the doors in the garage so while I am Just Emptying Every Pocket any suggestions on storage and hoist systems that work for you would be appreciated. Pics and links are always very helpful :thumb:
well, being that mine has been in paint for 3 days means that Ill have one strong coat of paint! lol
Anyways, I bet the factory might really start pumping out the 10a's starting tomorrow. Might be a good thing to have a JK built after a long holiday weekend so the employees are rested up and ready to hit it again.
I ordered here in Okeechobee, guideplan ordered from arrigo I believe, i paid just under invoice. But didnt have alot of info before i ordered but im very happy with my deal, some people got 2-3 % under invoice on the forum.
I will be running AEV wheels I think ? : )))) It just feels like their fit and how they do things is well planed out . I currently own a 2012 JKU AEV and have a 10A JK red seater at trim status I ordered it 1/15/2013 . Do you guys like AEV wheels and what if any lift is going to let me run 33'' or 35'' on my 10A ? I want them to fit at full articulation .
Ok everyone here is my review on removing the bumper endcap (1 side): Chrysler/Jeep can you not correctly drill and tap bolt holes? For something that is made and advertised as removable this is a pretty shoddy job. The top and bottom bolt threads are almost striped from the factory from lack of alignment! (end rant) 8 Bolts total per side, 2 on each side of the square bumper steel. Top 2 and bottom 2 were not aligned well and I'll chase the threads to clean, see pictures. Front 2 and back 2 were fine no issues. Took about 10 minutes as I went slowly and became concerned with the threads. I loosened all bolts initially then removed from bottom to top so it didn't fall off. The endcap weighs 11 pounds on my bathroom scale all steel on the outside with a plastic insert. see pictures. Back
At least half of mine were cross threaded too. :banghead: I'm not going to go back to the dealer and make a stink about it though, since I'm not planning on putting the end caps back on again. Still, it's a shame that such a good idea was ruined at assembly. :nonono:
I posted this back on March 31. I see my bumper was not alone, time did not help the process!
