I'm not sure that Jeep is going to move to a larger screen anytime soon. I've used a number of Infotainment systems: 2013 BMW iDrive, 2013 MyFord Touch, 2013 Honda, and had a 2008 Infinity. The Infinity was the easiest and most reliable but was short on features (no bluetooth streaming). The Ford is feature rich, but slow and unreliable, and cant play DVD's (Not that I watch DVDs in my car). The BMW has a ton of features, but that's mostly a factor of all the things you can control on the car. Its buggy too and hard to use. They all have issues, and none can compare to the interface of a tablet.
My biggest issue with it and all other systems is that you cannot do TOPO maps. My solution is to get a Ram Mount for an Ipad Mini loaded with off line TOPO maps and a GPS puck. I've recently tried to use an iPad for car navigation. It worked well until I hit a deadspot and then it shit the bed. In my experience cell tower navigation always fails at the most inopportune time.

For me 90% of the time the 730 should be good enough and there is a lot to be said for integration. I'll supplement with the iPad for the rest of it.

Of course I never leave with out my DeLorme Atlas and Gazetteer and Nat Geo Topo maps.

Atlas & Gazetteers, by State - DeLorme
Damn right ... I'm sick of hearing the 730N is worthless.

in the Saginaw area, i ordered mine a couple weeks ago so i still have a while before mine gets here. planning on scouting out some trails w the rzr 1st to see if wide enough for the jeep, a nice trail head off exit 222 on i75 may be my 1st outing this year to keep me happy until the jeep gets here. hope you got yours today, if so, have fun!

I don't think its worthless especially with an unlocking device like lock pick or however its spelled. My problem is the price for the age tech it is. I would have to spend what, $1700, to get the 730N and lock pick. Really for how old it is I could see 500 upgrade cost for 730N and maybe 430N standard on Sahara and above with option to downgrade to 130N for a $350 credit.

I ordered with the 730N. The only worry I had was when I run with no doors, someone stealing the unit...

The 10A got the best of me for a little bit at work today and I printed off a couple of trail maps up near Torch Lake where you had mentioned. The key shows where a full size ORV can fit. I like your scouting plan though. Unfortunately all I have is my mountain bike for that hahah... I got a little surprise today when I was yet again stalking my dealer's lot... Here she is.

Nice! ill let you know how the trails off exit 222 are, not quite as far away as kalkaska but looks like more / longer ones up there so prob worth the extra drive. i have a buddy w an older jeep w a 350 that lives in traverse city, ill ck if he knows anything about those torch lake trails. good to know the 10a's do actually get here! when did you order yours?

I met her today! She is beautiful! I pick her up on Wednesday, her name is RubiAnn. Lol my wife reminded me that it is our 10th wedding anniversary this year and the 10A is a perfect gift.

BTW when I first previewed my post the photo was upside down. When I saved the file as a smaller pic (1.8MB vs 168KB) it was right-side up on preview. And when I hit post it will hopefully be right-side up.

Yes Sir! I was hesitant on it but Xtreme Outfitters convinced me, they have pretty much tested them all and they love the Mopar lift which is Teraflex. They swear on the ride quality & Handling. And these guys pretty much only work on Jeeps so I felt better having them do it as opposed to the dealer. It should be done tomorrow along with the rest of my Mods! Can't wait and will post the "after" pictures right away! They may be sideways though!

anybody added any subs or upgraded the stereo system yet? there nothing like top down and loud music especially crawling around the lake!! probably my first mod will be darker tint, subs, and dual duallys...spot and fog. then after that little stuff like grab handles, mag light roll bar carrier and maybe oracle headlight untill i either save up or sale the old pick up and then lift and tires but will probably wear the tires down first anyway....i usually leave stock and have the upgrade ready for when i tear up the stock part or leave it on the trails..lol

Damn, up until now I thought I might have the only 2 door Anvil with Black / Black / Black in Michigan! Beeeeeeautiful! I pick up mine in 36 hours!

EDITED: Just looked at the spreadsheet, rstipp's JK is Billet, which is almost impossible to tell in that picture! (No, I do not want to restart Anvil gate...). So I guess I still have a one-of-a-kind, at least in Michigan (that I know of!)!

Picked mine up tonight!

Couldn't be happier. well there are two small issues the dealership is going to help me with (shock makes noise and needs to be replaced. a little missing paint inside the seam on the hardtop - not very noticeable.)

anyway, thanks for all the fun and support over the months. you guys rock.

Pictures coming soon. Believe it or not, minneapolis got another several inches of snow today. slushy and crappy out so not good for pics.

ok, so im already looking at my first mod - i got talked into an amp and new speakers and sub. i know there are other threads for this question , but i trust you guys...

I am thinking about putting the amp under the drivers seat. theres a ton of room under there for a smaller amp. however, there is a pretty thick steel bar across the back of both seat frames near the floor. these were on my '11 2 door as well. I saw this question in other forums, but the answers were all similar to 'dude, dont touch it, its there for a reason'. but no real explanation of what functional purpose these serve. I can see that they are deliberately part of the seat design, but i really cant say i think the seats would miss them if removed (just the drivers side in this scenario). The seats are firmly bolted to the floor, so they arent moving even without this bar. any thoughts other than 'just dont touch them'?

thanks!

If you think the infotainment in the Honda Odyssey is better than the 730 then I'm about to be sorely disappointed in the Jeep unit. I was not impressed with the Odyseeys unit and my brother in law has the thing turned on where the voice system narrates everything you do which is Super annoying. I wanted to punch it in the face, I mean screen. I will say that the Touring Elite is a bad ass vehicle, and bad ass is not a word you are usually never allowed to use to describe a mini van. Also the wide screen rear monitor and rear seat system definitely beats the Jeep. Rear seat entertainment in the JK consists of eating the bugs that fly in through the freedom panel openings.

As for overpriced try MyFord touch. For $1500 you get a system the crashes with these cool retro Windows error messages all the time, because its based on Windows CE. Remember Windows CE!! Talk about an oldie but crappy.

I still say, yes the 730 is old and overpriced, but that's pretty much par for the course with most systems and feature wise it's comparable to the rest of what's out there in the price range.

You're right though that the lockpick or navtv complete the unit, and one could argue that Jeep should have included the backup camera anyway, so we can add that to the price of the unit further making it less of a good value for the money.

So to summarize my semi coherant rambling. Everyone is right. The 730 sucks, but it does it well.
The end.

Die! Mr. Ed you equine douche bag!

hey rubi. i just picked up my manual trans today. as we have discussed a bunch here over the last month or so, the red seats and manuals seemed to go 'last' in this first round of build-outs. i think we're both in the latter part of that first build round with our deliveries this week.

what happens now, past our first round, is another story - one that perhaps the spreadsheet can better tell.

Hey guys, anyone with experience know around how many hours the dealership should be charging me to install the AEV Tire Carrier? I have no idea how many hours this would take but want to make sure they aren't trying to take advantage of me. Thanks!

You still may TallGuy! That's actually Billet so we may both still be originals! It's real cool how the colors seem to change in different lighting. I love Anvil now that I have seen it in person - was unsure initially. Also finalizing everything tomorrow evening! They still needed to clean it up but I put mile # 2 and 3 on it anyway
