It needs something special, off road performance-wise in my opinion. At least an option for a Pro Rock 44. I realize the over-all cost involved but there are some who would buy that option and it would be the easiest to accomplish as it uses stock internals. I like the upgraded EVIC, but they put in red leather seats. Seriously?

That's the problem when you go all out on a new "special edition" or new "package"--it gets harder and harder to duplicate that level of upgrade again without hurtling yourself out of your own price point.

When they added the Rubi to the TJ line up, they were able to offer improvements all over the vehicle. D44s front and rear, lockers, e-discos, deeper t-case, some rocker rails, a better suspension, deeper gearing, etc. All stuff offroaders wanted.

But that all then became standard Rubi equipment. So where do you go from there to create a new special edition that offers that big of a jump after you've already added all that stuff?

They no doubt want to keep the price within a few grand of a normal Rubi. So that right there kills a Hemi or a diesel. Rubis already have lockers and the deep t-case . . . there's no reason to go up to D60s . . . plenty of dealers already put on lifts and 35s, so nothing new offered there . . . deeper gearing would be pointless . . . they could add a supercharger or something, but that's not really a "trail" type of improvement and nobody's claiming the 3.6 is underpowered . . .

So there really aren't a lot of practical options besides armor and doodads.

And on top of that, the special editions they've been putting out with just doodads (Mountains, Islanders, Mojaves, etc.) have sold great, and the special editions they've put out with doodads and real improvements (2012 COD, Moab) did great and are expected to continue to do so. If it ain't broke, they aren't going to fix it.

Yesterday, I came across a window sticker for a loaded MOAB Unlimited; over $46,000. This will easily be more.

I love the red seats. I dislike the embroidery, but they all have that this year.

The press release says: "Available one-of-a-kind “Anniversary Red” leather interior." To me, that says there will be an option.

If I never see another black leather seat or steering wheel with red stitching, I'd be happy.

The first shots had me lusting after Anvil, wishing I could afford the 10th Anniversary, hoping Anvil would be offered on the rest of the line. The LA photos I've seen having me thinking: Eww. Is that more cornflower or periwinkle?

Agree with this. I like it except for the red leather, not that I'll be trading my '12 in for one though...

I'd even swap those for cloth seats if I had to so I could get rid of the blinding red. Gawdy!

The whole point to special editions is to keep people excited about the Jeep brand. Kinda like a concept car you can purchase. Everyone wants to have something different and folks are willing to pay for it.

I wish I had a nickle for every time I heard, "I have the limited blah blah and they only made 3.4 of them. It's a half year model. It's very rare and everyone wants one. It's highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts recognize that it's the one to have. It's not a replica, it was built at the factory like this and it has a plutonium core... yadda yadda yadda."
"Do you drive it?"
"Are you crazy? No way! It's a piece of history."

These full size pics. show the seat color more of a wine color than anything. Certainly not the bright fire engine red seen in some of the others.

In fact, I'd bet its "ruby red", some fiat guys sat there and said to themsevles, let us make the rubicon red leather ruby red.

God awful red seats! Regular sport and or rubi and upgrade yourself with bumpers/rails wheels/tires etc. Also figured no diesel, but hoping the diesel going into the 2014 Grand Cherokee finds its way into the wrangler--2014 maybe??

I bet the other shots are more accurate. The recent Chrysler vehicles I've seen with red leather were more like the bright ones.

I guess I got spoiled when I went from my TJ to my TJ Rubicon.

I like being spoiled I wanted something BIG again. It's a Renegade Rubicon with Hemi. Maybe badge it as a SRT. I guess I could build my own since Jeep Lawyers get their panties in a wad over lifts and engines.

I've got to admit . . . these pics do drive home how spoiled we all are here folks.

I mean let's be clear: Front winch-ready steel convertable stubby bumper with two tow hooks, rear steel bumper with two tow hooks, f/r solid axle D44s, f/r lockers, e-discos, stock JK skids, 4:1 t-case, 4.10 diffs, real rock rails, vented hood for heat issues that could be very real in 4L . . . all stock.

You've got to admit--that's a pretty capable STOCK vehicle by any standards, anywhere in the world. Amazing they're even produced anymore, frankly. Other vehicles requires thousands and thousands of aftermarket components to get up to speed.

And here we are complaining about seat choice and color. Just sayin'. Keep it in perspective!

@Mike

All depends on the price of course. Is it a marketing gimmick or not. Rubicon shouldn't be toyed with and right now to me it's sitting on the fence with this version between the serious off roader vs. this gimmick'd marketing ploy. Final price will make the determination at the end of the day. So far all it is, is different set of tires you can buy now cheap and bumpers which there is no shortage of after-market ones. I'm gonna check if my 2012 has bolt holes on the back right side for a second tow hook at the rear. Am mighty curious about that. Other than that, if indeed specially drilled, everything else can be picked up (subject to final price) same or less.

I downloaded every promo photo I could find. I just looked through them and the bumper looks the same in every one. I haven't seen any with the end caps on.

Why pay for leather if you don't want leather? I hope they make them an option.

I think the seats would have looked alot better with red inserts in black seats instead of all read seats.

Actually, while my reaction is also meh, it is almost exactly what I was expecting - red leather (as had been reported) and hood, bumper, trim, and gaudy sticker/badge upgrades. Zero surprise there. I never thought that we were looking at a hemi, diesel, portal axles, etc.

The small lift is nice I suppose, but going with smaller tires was a bit of a surprise. I also expected Anvil to be a dark grey, but I love the blue. Seems like somewhat of a throwback to steel blue with some winter chill thrown in. I am a sucker for all of the blues.

Hood looks nice. Need to see the bumpers in person, but all steel is a plus. That said, unless you love the bling, you can probably get a standard Rubi and throw on a couple of components and be ahead on dollars and/or performance. Upgraded bumpers and an AEV hood and you would have the best of this IMO. Bummer that Anvil is limited to this edition though. I bet it would have been a popular choice otherwise.

I absolutely hate seats with different colored inserts. Always looks like cheap aftermarket to me. And red and black are the worst. I'll take all red or no red.

And speaking of red and black, I'd take the red seats with any of the exterior colors except for the black. I hate black cars with red seats.

It's exactly what I was hoping it would be...a vehicle that makes me glad that I didn't postpone ordering in anticipation of something better. The only useful upgrade is the bumpers...and maybe the tires. But I've already switched to the awesome Poison Spyder bumpers and larger KM2 tires. A 1/2-inch lift? And the red leather would clash with the rocks in Moab. No thanks.

At the end of the day people will still buy it with those awful tampon seats. I bet most of these will barely leave the garage, let alone see some dirt, snow, mud, etccc.......

anvil is badass...

Correct me if I'm wrong.. but doesn't "available anniversary red leather seating" indicate that it's an option and not standard equipment? What's everybody griping about? If there is any fault on this package at all, it's the sh*tty, shorter, heavier, noiser KM2 tires.

Who knows...the Jeep website says:
"Rubicon 10th Anniversary" Detail Embroidered Standard, Red Leather, Heated Seats

So I'm guessing Red Leather is standard...and hoping Black (or saddle) leather is optional. I'm not sure if cloth is optional. On most of the new special editions, you could not change the seat material (Arctic, Moab, Freedom, Altitude, ect). Actually, the Moab edition in the only recent version where you could even change seat color....and that was made pretty clear on the website.
