I can't imagine that winch has a $1000 bulk price. Maybe 500-600 but that's still a million bucks. I have no clue what kind if markup there is on a production jeep but if they are making an average of $1000-1500 per vehicle, that 500-600 would halve their profit. As sad as it is I am not even hoping for a winch but for a bit I thought that would be a cool gesture. No go definitely at 2000!

This may have been covered here but...

Will Jeep offer some of the 10A items like bumpers and other do-dads for sale for those who might want to upgrade a regular 13 rubi?

Not that I'd want to, just curious if I did.

True, buying in bulk the winch would be cheaper. BUT, as I said there is labor involved and it's union labor. This means some poor guy isn't going to be hefting winches off a table and dropping them into bumpers. A fixture and associated machinery for lifting and placing the winch would have to be invested in. Also the extra wiring harness and it's manufacture and installation. This along with the time and human labor on the line, which considering the wage and benefits probably "costs" chrysler north of $60 per hr and they have to derive profit. therefore I guessed that $1000 would be about their total production cost to provide and install a winch.

$60 per hr. isn't too out of the question if you guesstimate around $18 per hr. plus health, dental, workers compensation insurance along with factoring in sick and vacation days as well as holidays. Couple this with other necessary production floor employee needs such as ear plugs, safety glasses and other requirements. It's not like you or I going down to the store, buying the winch and wires, man handleing it to the jeep and into the bumper then completeing the job in an afternoon.

If you are Chrysler you download the install on the dealer.

Better for them but still not much cheaper when you look at service department hourly rates and the time involved for the install. You would probably still come in a "c" note on either side of $1000.

Just sayin, not trying to offend anyone or start a flame.

Chrysler doesn't have to pay the dealer. Remember Chrysler controls the dealer ordered inventory so they have great leverage on the dealer. If the dealer try's to collect from the customer then the dealer is bad mouthed on forums. In most situations between the cust and the manufacturer the dealer comes up paying much of the cost and getting all the blame.

Not really, dealers get paid for prepping a car once it comes off the carrier by the factory. It's not huge money but they do get a fee for prep. Also the dealer can't bear a 2-4 hr install of a winch for free. the dealer has to pay the technician and the vehicle is taking up a bay in the service department which could be filled with paying work.

Dealers are independently owned franchises which must operate at a profit like any other business. The corporation dictates many things to them the same as any franchise, but they can't work for free the same as you or I can't.

It's just like warranty repairs aren't free. They cost you nothing but the dealer bills the corporation for it's labor and facility. It's billed at a reduced rate compared to normal service work but the dealer still gets paid. That's why technicians dis-like warranty repairs on the average. Most work on commission and the warranty book rates provide less hours to the tech for a repair compared to standard book labor for the same repair.

I hope it is something like the Dragon Wrangler Cover. That way the KM2 treads are still visible.

What's up with the latest Jeep Facebook post? They posted a picture of what appears to be an Anvil JK, but it's not a 10A Rubicon... Does this mean that the Anvil color will be available for any model JK, or is the one they brought to Aspen unique? Or is it not even anvil?

(Please forgive me of this is old news)

I don't think there is a 'here's something free' surprise. The statement got amended to saying that there will be stuff on the 10A that we will say 'oh that's cool' to, little things.

But I'll take a free winch, tire cover or anything else that Jeep wants to give away

I think a cool surprise would be a free Jeep Jamboree for two at the event of your choosing. But I bet that would cost them too much also.l

I figured that might be the case... but I just couldn't figure out why they'd be highlighting an older model while the subject of their post is the pending Jeep giveaway at the Xgames. Weird...

Wonder if it will come with locking wheel lugs. I saw a truck drop off several new Jeep's at the dealer yesterday and they did not have them, or at least were not wearing them yet!

Why would you want a locking lug nut? I can snap them off with almost any drill bit but a pain in the ass if you try and do it but crack them yourself?

If the surprise was a voucher for an offload driving course, that would be amazing!

More than likely it would be a jacket, travel mug, or the like. I don't really care for a surprise, I just want my Wrangler!

I was thinking along theft deterrent in high theft areas on high cost tires and wheels for those locking lugs. Have had them on all my higher end vehicles, no probs.

ArcherAce, if you were to be a betting or guesstimating man, when would you think a traditional Jeep color like black would start production and shipping out? Not that i'm anxious or anythink.

The gift for black exterior orders is a new "top secret", can't see swirl marks at night paint coating i heard.........ha, ha.
