Just a thought, you could always Katzkin it with Black and Red Stitch. If you did that I'd order Red Seats and have them reskinned. THere seems to be a lot of people who might contribute to the cost of the change on your Jeep. Again just my $0.02

So a question for you guys...

I have always stood pretty firm on requiring that any car i own have a manual transmission. Sports cars definitely - i have an audi RS4 and it would be a crime to drive that car with an auto trans. I'd say that wranglers are in another class, but they are also a type of vehicle that i demand to have more control of the trans through a manual. Initially, this was because the piss poor engine (prior to 2012) performance was only accentuated by the auto trans, so driving a manual was the only way to get that engine to respond in a way that made the jeep pleasurable to drive. Especially in the bigger, heavier 4 door. I found a steal on an '09 4 door sahara that was auto, and thought i'd get used to it. i hated driving it, so i went back to a 2 door manual. Point being, how can you guys drive a wrangler with an auto trans? Have you ever tried it with a manual? For me, the difference is night and day. Driving the manual is a blast. Driving the auto puts me to sleep. It pains me to see you guys ordering the 10A with an automatic transmission.

Easy! The wife refuses to drive a manual as well as being p*ss poor at it. It's our vacation vehicle which is towed behind the motorhome. Therefore she will drive it as much as I do. When mamma's happy everybody's happy. Besides, pumping the clutch gets really old in the heavy traffic we encounter at a lot of our destinations, and after rocking a 40ft diesel bus all day I really don't want to contend with the extra pedal.

Personal preference I guess, to each their own.

I agree with you though, I would never buy a wrangler with an auto unless they discounted me a few thousand to do a tranny swap.. my '95 has a stick, and my 10a when I order it will definitely have one as well.

That is a thought, but I think if I had to stay with the black seats, I'd learn to love them all the same. I also have the supplemental side airbags, so would that effect getting new leather installed? Probably just make it difficult or more expensive since it needs a tear away panel or however those airbags in the seats work?

Oh - and to the comment about the manual transmissions - I agree completely. I would not have ordered or purchased an automatic transmission under any circumstance, but that's just me. Some people just don't like to shift. I enjoy it, and haven't had an automatic car in over 10-years (Unless you count my wife's Subaru, but I don't drive it much).

Restitching what you have would be your cheapest and maybe only way. With side airbags the seat has special material and stitching to allow deployment. Most upholstery shops refuse to make covers for these due to the liability of them not deploying if sewn too strongly. Most of the time they will only use replacement manufacturer covers or covers from a well established manufacturer who takes the liability. I haven't seen one who will make covers for these custom or otherwise unless you agree to disable the seat mounted airbags in writing. Come to think of it I'm contradicting myself since re-stitching would be the same as sewing the custom covers, so probably the only option is covers from a manufacturer such as katzkin.

Tommy

EDIT-- I called my friend who owns an upholstery shop and asked. No upholstery shop will do these covers in house. There are several companys which manufacture replacement seat covers, and he can spec the stitching color to make it custom.

The reason being that the airbag requires a special "ripstitch" to operate correctly. The sewing machine required to produce this stitch is in excess of 1 million dollars. Therefore no independent shops can afford the equipment neccessary.

Cost for covers done custom would be in the 2K range.

Go with the color chip in the brochure, Daspes. I wasn't to sure on the color when I heard it was the same as a Brute trash can, but it's really pretty sweet.

I've all ways prefered a manual in my jeeps. My CJ, YJ, TJ, and one of my XJ's were all manuals. I've have a XJ and KJ with Autos...

Then we got to JK's. My first 07 had a slush box, I bought it over the manual only because of the deal I got on it. With 5.13's and the supercharger it still sucked. Horribly. My wife's 07 is a stick and it actually made the crappy 3.8 fun. When I traded my 07 for my 12 I made sure the new jeep had a stick. And it SUCKS! Around town is bearable but trying to wheel it is horrible. Makes me wish I still had the 3.8 with the 42RLE. The three local dealerships say they average 75% of the manual 2012's come back for service due to the horrible feel of the transmission mated to the Pentastar. Night and day difference between it and the 2012. Biggest comomplaint is Absolutly no pedal feel. I can't wait to get the new 10A in so I can get rid of the manual. Maybe an upgraded clutch pack may help. Don't know.

I have seen the Anvil in person, its not the color of the Brute trash can, The Billet is that color. Its hard to describe buts it is a blueish grey color.

Thanks, May need to rethink my order. Hell I don't even know what Billet really looks like. None on the lots here in town. Only have seen the pics posted online and each one of those is different depending on lighting and camera. The color ship is a dark gray which I love, but it is absolutely nothing like the Mylanta blue in the auto show pics.

I was actually thinking about ordering the Anvil until I saw an Oscar Mike in Billet in the showroom. Looked awesome. Dark smokey grey metallic, and not really silver to my eye. Unique in my opinion.

Just wasn't brave enough I guess to order the Anvil site unseen.

Pictures look different in lighting, that's why I tried to get as close as I could with my iPhone 4.

I'm not out on the line so I don't know what the opinion of the "general population" is. But, the people that have walked over to see the one that is sitting here have all liked it.

Being at Detroit auto show, the people around me said, they really liked the color and me personally if I wasn't getting black I would be buying an Anvil. The 10A are awesome! I think if you pass on this vehicle you will regret it for many years to come!

Yes I went to my local dealership and talked to a salesperson and the manager, they acted like I was crazy, they have never heard of the 10a, it was not even in his computer to order, trying to figure out how to get one with black interior since everyone is saying this is the last day????
