2013 horn

Anyone else notice a delay in the horn button. You can push the button and their is a very distinct delay before the horn sounds. Is this just my Jeep or all jk's?

This is true for my 2011 JK as well. I don't like this so much, but I just accept it.

It's made that way on purpose, to reduce the number of Prius's and Smart Cars on the road. See, if they don't hear your Jeep coming for that first split-second...

Okay, on a more serious note, the Wrangler horn blows. If you want something with a little more nads, read these threads. Just don't be THAT guy – the d-bag who buys an air horn.

2door JK horn replacement - with PIAA 400+500Hz horns - with PICS!

PIAA 85110 - PIAA 400Hz/500Hz Low Pitch Sports Horn Kit - Quadratec

Mine is also like this. I've been known to hit it 2 or 3 times before sound comes out. Oops..

My 09 sounds right away, however the stock horm has long since been replaced by a pair of PIAA dual note horns. The 13 has a new horn. How about someone posting a sound clip for us?

Keep laughing, the rest of us are trying to figure out how much further we can drive with the fuel light on, how much air to put in our tires, what octane to use, manual or automatic, and whether or not we should wave.

Perhaps I can help. In order:

Even if i replace the horn the delay will still be there right? The sound is actually not an issue. In my opinion it's plenty loud enough. It's the delay between pressing the button and hearing anything.

I think this delay is part of the Chrysler design because I have it on both my 2012 Wrangler and 2012 Ram. I have a theory that it's some kind of computer issue, like maybe the horn button talks to the computer and then the computer sends a signal to honk the horn. I don't have any facts to back this up, lol, but sometimes you can notice the key doesn't spin the starter instantly. The delay is about the same as the horn.

To anyone that has replaced their horn with the PIAA etc:

Is the delay still there? Possible change in the RC time constant in the horn itself to shorten the "build-up" time? Just thinking out loud.

Yes, the delay is still there.

It seems to have nothing to do with the horn(s) stock or aftermarket. If you have a delay with the stock horn you'll have it with whatever you install. I have no delay with my 10. I have the PIAA 400/500 and they work great. Maybe a dealer flash of the computer can take care of it. Don't know. A horn delay should not be normal especially since there are alot of JK's that have no delay.

Damn, now I'm curious what my horn sounds like. Don't think I've used it before.
Just hope it's not one of those litte "meeeeep please excuse me" things.
Delay sounds annoying. Kind of defeats the purpose of having an audible warning.

is this why i think it"s "difficult" to blow the horn?! a flippin delay?!

i just thought one needed to apply more than adequate pressure!

Try it, you won't like it. The single stock horn was pathetic. Pretty embarassing actually. You might not have a delay. You'll know soon enough. You really never activated it in anger before? Good thing.

Changing the horn out will not cure the delay. The horn goes through a computer in the JK, and as a result, there is a delay. A moronic oversight as it is an actual safety issue. Some things should not be computerized.
