2013 horn problem

Jeep is about 2 weeks old. At random times (open drivers door) and the horn goes off continuously for about 30 seconds. Not the alarm sound - a constant blow.

Any ideas, it's driving me nuts!

Thanks!

Mark

Could be any # of things...water in the horn; a clockspring issue. For the guy who started this thread, it turned out to be an issue with his cruise control buttons.

Read through the thread, though. It's not long, but there are links to other horn problems in there.

Horn suddenly comes on

Thanks!
I also noticed the horn button itself on the steering wheel doesn't work now.

I pulled the fuses u til I have a chance to figure it out.

Had the same problem. You didn't mention this, but on mine, after the 60 or so seconds of steady horn, my horn would then start going BEEP BEEP BEEP non stop until I pressed the PANIC button on the key fob. And then the next time I opened the door, it would start all over again.

I've taken it in to the dealer 3 times in the last 30 days and they think they have it fixed this time.

According to the worksheet, they replaced the horn switch, steering wheel harness, clock spring, speed control switch and then clock spring again. All this was done yesterday. In late February, the dealer replaced the cruise control switch.

Since the computer error codes were not helping a lot, the dealer had to contact "STAR" and submit a case with them. STAR recommended the replacement of all of the above parts.

Hopefully, it is fixed this time.

I just started having pretty much the same issue. It started yesterday when I was getting out and I had 1 hand on the steering wheel and I touched the metal on the door. I felt a small shock and fkfor about 60 seconds the horn stayed on. The keys were in the ignition at the time too. Went home, locked it with the fob, went out later and unlocked it with the fob and the horn came on again. I then disconnected the battery and no sooner did I start to tighten the nut the horn came on again so I pulled the fuses. I have an appointment this Thursday. 2013 JKU about 5,800 miles on it.

Cruise Control switch replaced. I wonder how long I can expect it to last - seems common.

Ok... Now mine is doing this.
2013 with 1400 miles, I suppose a trip to the dealer is in order.

Just curious, did you happen to notice a static electricity zap between you and the steering wheel just before the horn started blasting? That was the cause of my problem. The static zap would fry something out.

After several attempts to fix the problem, Chrysler developed a new wire harness for the steer wheel/column that included a dedicated ground wire. I haven't had that problem since they installed this new harness in August 2013.

Regards,

Had the same thing on my 2014. First dealer changed horn switch and speed control switch. Worked for a week. Took it to another dealer who replaced main buss which handles all the circuits. Problem solved.

Yup…happened to me on my ’13 JK. All of a sudden, every time I unlocked my JK with the fob, key or even opened the unlocked door, the horn would go off for exactly 30 seconds. Embarrassing to say the least. I would come out of wherever I was and hit the unlock button when I was far as away as the signal reached and then waited for a few moments. Had to do that for three days until I could get it back to the dealer. What you have is a wiring harness short in the steering column. Dealer fixed it in 2 ˝ hours.

Hi Tim,

Throughout the year or so that I had this problem, the dealer replaced several parts. The last one to be replaced, appeared to solve the problem. It's been 8 months now without this problem.

"Installed 56046094AE :SWITCH: SPEED CONTROL"

and the comments state:

"REPLACED SPEED CONTROL SWITCH, UPDATE TO 8 PIN SCC M." (or SCCM - the "M" is on a new line all by itself due to the first line being too long.)

The dedicated ground wire comment was provided to me by the Service Manager at the dealership.

HTHs.

BTW, I am answering your PM via this posting so if others need this info, it's available.

Regards,

I had the same problem on my JK that had 300 miles on it. Turns out there was a short in the steering column wiring harness. Dealer fixed it in an hour and a half. Take it back to the dealer.

Took it to the dealer at 350 miles and they changed the horn switch and it worked for a few weeks.

So I noticed last night on my way to work the radio and volume buttons on the steering wheel weren't working. Thought this was strange but thought maybe because it was cold this caused it. 7am I get an and start the jeep and the horn starts blasting. It was about 30 secs. or so. It stopped and I tried the buttons that weren't working and they seemed ok. So I drive home hoping it was over but as I turned the jeep off and opened the door the horn blasted again.
I made an appointment at my local dealer who I can't stand. I'm glad that I have some info now to as what the problem might be because I know they will try to give me the runaround.
Let you know how I make out.

So I have to call the dealership in the morning. Horn isn't working again and the volume and channel buttons on the steering wheel aren't working. The positive is that my horn doesn't go off every time I open my door.

So I've had mine back 2 more times. They change the instrument cluster the last time. Didn't work. Waiting in a part again. They think it might have something to do with the fuse box. Key word - think.

Horn Problem

They have more parts ordered for mine also. My guess is they will keep guessing until it runs out of warranty like they did the defroster problem on my Cherokee. It sounds like Hal's dealer may have figured it out. But my dealer hasn't felt the need to talk to them. It seems they don't like people trying to help get their car fixed. My car has almost 10,000 miles on it and this has been going on since 350 miles.

Is this only affecting people with remote keyless entry?

I only have a Sport model. Basic, no keyless entry. The first fix they tried in mine was the cruise control. They replaced that but it didn't help. I figure I will have all the electrical replaced before it's fixed. My dealership said they called Chrysler and talked to an engineer. They had no clue either.

I had the same issue with my 2013 sport early on. After replacing the steering wheel switch control module a couple of times they determined it was static discharge from exiting the vehicle and touching the steering wheel. The initial symptom was the horn blaring and the horn button and radio switches not working (but cruise did). They finally added a ground wire and I have not seen the problem since.

My fix was something to do with the fuse box. Not a fuse but a module in the fuse box. The service guy seemed to be just spewing out stuff and I was just happy it was fixed. It's been a few weeks and no more issues so however they fixed it they fixed it.
