Angry 2013 Jeep Wrangler Dash Fit Problems.

I would like to know how many people out in the Jeep world have the same problem as I have with my new 2013 Rubicon. I purchased my new Jeep in January unseen as I needed to order the unit in to get the options and color I wanted so I never got to actually see the 2013 Wranglers other than photos online at Jeep.com and Jeep.ca. Once I got into my actual Jeep the first thing I saw was the bottom dash trim around the radio was bowed out like it had been pulled on and bent. My first thought was that someone didnít know how to remove the dash if they had to change the radio so I could the one I ordered, but that was not the case. I pointed the defect to my sales person that minute as she was also in the vehicle at that time. My sales person told me that the service manager will fix that next week when he is back form a vacation, and that was all we said about the dash at that time.

Next week with the service manager

I dropped the Wrangler off at the dealership for its appointment to repair the dash in the early morning and that evening when I picked the unit up I was told by the manager that he was unable to repair the dash. The service manager informed me that the 2013 models seen to have a slightly different design to the dash trim mount and they are missing the bottom tab or mounting point where the trim would mount to in that exact spot on my Jeep that has the problem. He also informed me that he canít guarantee that if he orders a new dash for me that it will fix the problem as it is just the way the dash is designed so he wonít order the dash. He also said that he checked other Wranglers on the lot and only the Jeeps that have the navigation are missing the clip or mounting spot, in my mind saying again that there is nothing that he can or will do.

The problem I have with this:

Now this is all very nice in what the manager has said and understandable to a point, but my beef with this is, The service woman that mans the front counter has informed me that she has the same problem with her 2013 Jeep and she does not have a navigation radio, also just checking the dealer lot and over half of the now in stock 2013 Jeeps have the same problem of the warped dash, and more to the point that means that some have the correctly fitting dash.

Jeep.ca

As I am a Canadian I have to deal with Jeep.ca and send all inquiries to them and not the .com site, so I after not hearing from the service manager as he said he would check into it and get back to me I contacted Jeep.ca, The short of that conversation was a simple if that is the way the dash is designed than there is nothing we can do to help you, Thank for buying a Jeep. There was obviously more to the conversation then that, but after Jeep.ca contacted the service manager at my dealer ship and he said that was the way the dash was designed, they then stopped looking any further as Jeep.ca believes there is nothing wrong with the dash.

So here is my question to Jeep owners of the 2013 Wrangle any model any radio option as I have seen it on all. Do you have a poor fitting dash panel around the radio of your Jeep? The problem is at the bottom of the radio where the dash meets the radio just above the window controls. On affected Jeeps the dash bows out like it was pried on and bent and sticks out. The bow is so bad that you can see inside the dash and see a bar-scan sticker on the passenger vent of the middle vents, and I hate it on the principle that a $50,000 vehicle even a super awesome one should have some type of quality control when the unit was built, and someone should have seen this problem and all the current ones that are still coming off the line now or did for the 2013 units.

If you have this problem or it might just be a Canadian problem please comment below so I can get an idea of how big it is. I have seen at least 15 Jeeps in my city with this problem but not seen anyone online mention it.

Mine looks exactly like this. I thought it was from the previous owner badly installing an aftermarket nav, but after taking the dash apart, using epoxy to reattach other parts of the plastic sub frame that had come undone, the end result continued to look as yours does about.

Mine is a 2012 non-Nav u-connect model, so don't buy your service department's rationale that the design is different or mounting points are missing, etc.

Hopefully someone does find a solution to this though; if it's on a majority of dashes, maybe Chrysler will fix them down the road... one can dream

Thank you for starting this thread! I have a 2013 JKUR with the 730N and it's exactly the same. I've began to live with it but it has bothered me from day one. Not performance hindering but definitely an eye sore.

That is so weird, cuz I had the 130 and replaced it with the 430N and mine sets nice and tight.

Mine looks like the OP's but it doesn't bother me at all.

The idea though that they are using two different dash panels (one for the 130 and one for 430/730) is a bit disconcerting. You'd think they would all be identical.

Mine is exactly like the OP dash.

I have a 2013 JKS with the 130 RES so the nav radio theory is out the window.

My dealer replaced mine and its no better than yours.

I'm an automotive plastics engineer and I know what the issue with the part is. Chrysler did an engineering change to the stereo mounting and the assembly and molding engineer for the dash panel didn't validate the change on all possible combinations of the running change stereo / dash panel tools. To complicate matters one of the pieces of tooling that makes the Wrangler dash doesn't make a dimensionally accurate part compared to other tools.

Ford would skin me for sending F150 dash panels like this. It's just another example of Chryslers lack of IQ certification.

I voted that the dash was OK . But , after looking at it tonight , it's not perfect . There is a small bow in the middle above the power window switches . If I push it back into shape the switches and vents move . Not very impressed for 35K . Tonight I did some work in behind the left tail light . Removed the foam pad Mopar put in there to seal the area , and installed a piece of hard mud flap cut to size . Then sealed around the hoses and wires with spray foam . Again , not very impressed for 35K . I'm still liking the Jeep , but I'm having flash backs of my '75 CJ5 .

Mine has that terrible eye sore bow too. Brought it to the dealer and they said that if you offroad it then that happens!!! Lmfao

Had them replace it twice now and my only concern is the large amount of dirt and debris getting in there and gumming up the window switches. The passenger window switch has already been sticking and I have the repairs to justify any further switch malfunctions being covered due to this problem.

It is far more than just an eye sore. The are functional issues down the road for anyone in harsh conditions in regards to the window switches.

Lets really hope they fix this for us or at the very least for the next releases.

And if it gets rained in there's going to be buffer problems than a sticking switch!!! Guess I'll just make them replace the switches when they are shot- via warranty.

I think the poll results are inaccurate because this is clearly a navigation option issue.

I am also glad you started this thread, I noticed this same thing after I had some work done on my 13 JKUR, I have the 730N. My husband said it wasn't that noticeable...(THAT noticeable, this made me laugh). My issue is that this is a new vehicle, if it looks like this now, what will it look like in a year? Three years? etc.

I think I will mention this the next time I bring it in. Thanks!

Same issue. 2013 Unlimited built 05/2013. Came with a 430N and I had the dealership install a 730N after I bought it. I didn't notice the panel "bulge" until after getting it home from the 730N install. I thought it was due to a crappy 730N installation. This thread tells me I'm not crazy. I have the protruding curved panel center panel, and my square power window plate is loose in the "socket" it is seated in. Literally, when I press the button for windows to go up/down, the whole square panel that the 4 switches are seated in moves/slides up or down in the socket as well as creaks and squeaks. It's like the panel and the window switch setting don't fit well and aren't anchored to each other or to anything behind the dash.

I also noticed that when I hop in the Jeep, start it up, put it in gear and then hit the throttle to back up or to pull forward after being parked, the whole front dash seems to make a loud "creak" and shift - like it's seating itself or settling. It does this for maybe the first two accelerate/brake cycles and maybe the first turn left/right or first bit of uneven pavement when the chassis goes quickly up or down. Once it "shifts" and settles or seats/aligns itself, it doesn't make this noise anymore. I can't reproduce this by pushing pulling or lifting on any part of the dash, seats or hard top.

Very weird and annoying, especially since I've literally done no mods to this Jeep other than have the dealer swap out OEM radios. It has 500 miles on it and was purchased new 6 weeks ago. I haven't taken it in because I reeeaaallly don't have a job that lets me take time off or come in late to have minor annoyances fixed on my Jeep.

Mine looks like that too... didn't notice it until I took off the dash the other day to remove the air vents...

Mine is like the OP's as well. This issue has come up before. The answer was a collective shrug. Chrysler would replece it, but it would not be any better.

Mine is the same, with and without the aftermarket unit. The dash design hasn't changed since 2011. There is no clip to pull that section of the stereo surround inwards. The only way to "fix" it is to mount the stereo so it sticks out further. It doesn't bother me at all.

Mine is like that too. I have the 430N. I just assumed they were all shoddy like that. Has anyone besides the OP tried to have it corrected?

2013 JKR here with the 430 version and after I read this thread, I went outside to inspect mine and to my surprise it was fine. The only issue I was able to find, was the bottom of the nav screen sticks out about a hair over the dash. I never noticed it until today so I guess it isn't a big deal for me. However, I do agree with most of you about getting better quality for a 35K vehicle.

I care not how it looks. It only matters if it allows dirt and water in more readily. Then there will be an issue!

Ok, I'm looking at getting a Wrangler.

Looking at the posts, it may be a power window switch issue.

The one person that posted a pic that looked fine, did not have power window switches.

Could the window switch harness be deforming the dash?

Same thing. Just purchased a 2013 and requested that they fix it. The dealer replaced the dash bezel and its worse. Glad I am not the only one. Now where is the fix?!

Just noticed mine has warped out of place. Indeed, nothing holding that bit of trim to the radio/substructure.

Any update on possible fixes, short of replacing the dash (only to have it warp again)?

I've removed my dash a couple times, and if you take out the window switches, there is a screw behind it. Loosen the screw, then push the plastic towards the radio and hold into place. Then tighten screw. It helps a little, but it's not perfect. Probably the best you are gonna get without loosening the screws on the head unit and maybe pushing it down just a bit or putting small washers behind the head unit on the bottom two screws.

Yep I see that. I'm wondering if there's a way to "pull" that part of the dash forward (be it a bungee, spring, cable, etc) enough to dewarp the plastic and/or take the tension from the switch plate off the dash.

Holy crap; I'm so glad I finally stumbled upon this thread! Mine looked just fine until some time today. I went out to the Jeep at lunchtime and it looked as though somebody tried to pry the stereo out of the dash. I assumed maybe a trim clip had fallen out, but apparently there's not one there, going by what was said above.

For the record, it's a 2014 JKU with the non-nav stereo, and it does have power windows. It's not bowed out quite as badly as the OP picture, but it's enough to bug the living hell out of me. Definitely shows that Chrysler is involved.

UPDATE: I took mine in a few months back when I had a laundry list of small things to address. They fixed this dash issue, a leaky seal on the rear hard top window and replaced the frame that hold up the driver seat. No more issues, creaks, clunks or whatever in the 3 months since these were addressed. there's still a smallish gap between the 730N and the IP trim, but much less so than before. The power window controls don't feel loose and the IP doesn't flex and shift when you poke it or drive the Jeep.
