Question 2013 JK What the Heck Are These Plugs?

I did my first oil change on my 2013 JK this evening. Messing around under there was fun and all, but I found something weird. There are these two black rubbery "plugs" just behind the oil pan drain plug. They are recessed, and when I poked them with my finger they felt soft/gooey/spongy and warm to the touch. Almost felt like they were the only thing between my finger and some hot vehicle fluid. I have absolutely no idea what they are, but figured they might be some sort of fluid expansion/blow plugs??? Most blow plugs I've messed with were brass. These certainly felt like something that could easily get scraped off driving over rocks or screwed up if I sealed/painted over them.

Can anyone tell me what the heck these are? I stole the photo below from the internet, but they show the plugs very well.

If you hit those plugs on rocks you wont have to worry about those plugs.....you will have bigger problems to deal with.

Very true. Still, I'd like to know what they are, short of calling the dealership.
