Post 2013 JKR 3 Month Fuel Costs

I'm using an app called "Road Trip" for the iPhone to watch gas costs/mileage each time I fill up out of interest. I don't care what it costs really as I didn't buy the Wrangler for fuel efficiency, I bought it for fun!, but I though I'd share anyway.

I bought the JKR on Jan 3, 2013 off the lot and my last fill up was April 1, 2013. So it's a good 3 months data. It's basically stock ie. no larger tires or lift - yet and it's a manual.

Total spent on gas(87 octane only): $755.49
Average Fuel Cost/Day: $9.10
Average Fuel Cost/mile: $0.237
Average Fuel Cost/gallon: $4.013
Average Mileage between fill ups: 246 miles

I live in San Diego and drive 20 miles each way to work. I'd say the majority of my mileage is freeway.

Road Trip is awesome; that's what I use too. I've been using it for years to track my fuel and maintenance costs.

As a comparison I've attached my 3-month snapshot as well.

This is on a 2013 JKUR on 35s and 2.5" lift.

Thankfully this isn't my DD! lol

That's very light driving over the last 3 months due to the cold weather. Things will ramp up drastically in this beautiful spring weather.

I dont understand why people keep track of MPG in our Jeeps! I did for the first 3 fill-ups and decided I didn't want to know how much I was spending on gas anymore, kinda depressing! (I came from a 2011 Honda Civic) So, I stopped looking at the computer avg. MPG and I stopped calculating it at fill-up. I have decided to drive the hell out of my Jeep until the gas light comes on and enjoy every second of the ride!

I plan on tracking mine, but coming from a 2012 Ram with a hemi I don't think it'll phase me too much!

I track mine because I like data. I'm a nerd, what can I say. It's just my personality and quark I suppose. I work with data and analyze it for a living so maybe that has something to do with it.

Yeah I just like to collect it. Besides not much else to do while standing at the pump!

Yea I have always tracked it in my other vehicles. But after the lift and tires and being under 15 MPG, I gave up lol. Just gonna enjoy the ride and laugh every time someone in a Prius or other hybrid gives me a dirty look

I track mine just to see how far off mine was from the advertised MPG. It was pretty far off. However, I was glad to know that my MPG stayed pretty much the same after upgrading to 37s from 32s.

Looks like a good app though.

I use one called fuelly. It's on android, iPhone, or just the web. Trying to get my wife to enter her's is more pain than its worth though...

Luckily I am a motorcyclist 1st, and a cager second. My 2013 JKR will not be my primary mode of transportation and this thread has done a very good job of solidifying that choice

Still, if fuel economy was such a big point of consideration, I would not be a member of this forum in the first place.

I use an app called gas cubby on my iPhone. I chose this one because it allows you to track any expense you spend on your vehicles. I track all of the mods I put on my jeep and my gas expenses. On top of that it has several gas charts showing miles per tank, gallon, and total expenses over time. I really like it.

I average about 14-15 MPG. I track my MPG just to make sure everything is looking normal. If I randomly get 8 MPG one day, then I know something is not right.. lol so yeah! That's my excuse.

I use Fuelio on Android, but if the app store has gas cubby I may switch..

ETA: Just found FuelLog-Car Management. Looks similar to Gas Cubby. I'm going to start using this now.

Agreed! Nice little app. Able to email and print it also. Worked well for when I sold my truck. Had all the mods, price paid, and when they went on to show potential buyers.

I track mine just out of curiosity. Coming from an old truck, my Rubi is actually an improvement on mpg. Oddly though, the first several tanks averaged mid 13 but after a few thousand miles I'm consistantly seeing right around 16 mpg. No idea why, but I've read that other people have had the same experience. So even though you don't care too much, you might be pleasantly surprised, slightly, if you'd check it again and compare it to your first three tanks.

When I get my Rubicon, I expect it will be an upgrade in MPG from my current truck, and it is not even a full size ... 2010 Nissan Frontier. That things only gets 13 - 14 MPG in routine driving.

I hope you're right about that. Lol. Cause I've filled up my 2013 JKUR three times and the first two tanks averaged around 13.7 mpg. Would like to see around 16 mpg. I knew that the 18-21 on the sticker would never be seen, but I never dreamed 12-13. I think part of the problem though is the fact my wife's been driving it to work lately. She's been known to have a lead foot. I've got a work van I drive five days a week so Unfortunately she gets more seat time in it than I do. :-(

I wouldn't hope for much better. I think the rubicon gets lower mpgs due to the 4.10's and well the fact that mines a four door don't help. If you're getting a two door you might luck out and get a 2-3 mpg improvement.

Lol! Damn wives! Yeah, I was pretty surprised when I first started seeing those low numbers, too, especially since they weren't even close to what the computer said I was getting. Now it's pretty much spot on. And that 16 mpg that I'm getting is entirely in-town driving with a 4-door. So you might end up faring even slightly better if you're doing any highway driving. Maybe.

I am from San Diego as well, i kept track for a while seems to be about 16mpg for my 4dr '13 Rubi. Still an upgrade from my truck which was closer to 12 mpg at best. If i reset it on the highway for a longer trip and traffic is light i get about 18.

I use fuel log for android. It keeps track of fuel ups, expenses, insurance, registration and etc. The stats are actually more detailed than what has been posted. It also has a nice graph feature so you can see where the price of gas is trending and such. I paid for the full version so I could keep track of more than 1 vehicle

I've yet to really do this. And I can't believe I never thought about there being an app to make it easy. I'm curious to as how accurate the dash is. (It says I've been getting 19-20 typically). I guess we will see.
