2013 JKUS 730N muffled nav sound

Have had my 2013 JKUS a few weeks now.
The nav voice from the 730N sounds very very muffled tot he point that at normal volume level the direction are incomprehensible. I have not been able to improve this with the equalizer. The only way to understand what she is saying is to turn up the volume to a crazy level.
Is this a know issue? Is there a solution?
Thanks for your input.

I hope it is not name related, Patrick.
Have you found a solution? Have you talked to your dealer about this (I haven't yet, I will if there is no easy fix out there, or some setting I have overlooked).

That's what i thought when I first saw your post. Must be a Patrick thing. I have not gone to the dealer yet. The just replaced the unit a week after I bought it because when the phone was paired to Bluetooth, the lights were on and I made a phone call the 730 would reboot. I have only used the nav a couple of times and it is annoying. If I get any down time from work I will take it in.

I have googled the issue but I haven't found any info out there. I would think that with the number of JK/730N's out there there would be something on the net. And when researching which system to buy (430 or 730) I read a lot about what the owner like and not like about them and I never read anything about poor sound quality of the 730 nav. Are we the only two? When did you get your JK? When was is built? Maybe we are the start of a bad batch?

Picked mine up 4 weeks ago.
Was built in feb 2013.

Did you try a software upgrade? I think the dealer would have to do that for you.

It seems like the sound is worse when driving at higher speeds. 60-70mph.

My new 2013 JKU Moab, built in March has muffled nav sound. Stereo audio is fine, but the Nav is definitely muffled.

I believe it is an issue with the 730n. I guess at this point it is not a big deal to me. I use navigation but don't really listen to the voice prompts. It is annoying, but I guess not annoying enough yet. Hopefully a software update can fix it.

I'm going to try to recreate this tomorrow so that I can give you the right procedure, but I'll give it a try from memory now. When your in navigation mode, there's an icon in the upper right corner that looks like an upside down green cone (for lack of a better description) that indicates volume. If you tap it while navigating, you'll hear the nav voice speak. When the nav voice speaks, turn up the volume knob to increase the nav voice relative to the radio/cd/music etc

I'll check tomorrow and revise if I've got it wrong.

Yes..I am aware of that. It sounds like the navigation voice is muffled...even at high volume. Its not a volume issue as much as it sounds like Charlie Browns teacher.

How does it sound when the vehicle is stationary compared to when you are driving at 50 or 60 mph?

No problem with my 2012 JKUS 730N. I know that does not help you guys but I wanted a place to complain about the NAV voice coming from the driver side speakers only.

It's supposed to so that the music still plays out at a lower level for the passengers while the Nav audio comes out at the speaker close enough for you to hear. My 08, and 13 do this, as well as my 04 CTS-V

Has anyone found a solution for this?

I just bought a used 2014 JKU Sahara with 8,500 miles and the 730N voice sounds muffled as described above by Patrick & Patrick.

BTW, 730N does NOT allow you to switch voices the way 430N does.

The muffled voice on my navi makes the prompts incomprehensible.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I have a 2015 JKUR with 730N with no issues. The nav sound coming from driver side speaker is normal. You might need a software update.

Mine does not appear to be an issue anymore. I do have the latest firmware update but also not going through the factory amp. I am using line out from PAC to go direct into an Alpine PDX-V9...navigation prompts seem to not be a problem. Not to mention the over all audio quality is much better..

730n to PAC pre-amp out.
Audio Control DQDX signal processor
Alpine PDX-v9 amp
JL Audio speakers and JL Audio 12" sub box.

ended up spending less money than the new Alpine systems cost..and sounds million times better.

Update

I have done several software updates since I first posted this issue and it did not solve the issue.

The odd thing about this issue is that at low speed it all seems (and sounds) normal, however at higher speed (50+mph or so) the sound becomes muffled.
Maybe it is the combination of the vibration of the car, the frequency of the voice and the quality speakers that somehow cancels out part of the higher tones of the sound.

I wish they would offer a choice of voices so we could experiment.
