I'm new to posting here, but a long time stalker. I just picked up my 2014 jkur that I ordered at Christmas. I too ordered the X hood and had it installed at my dealer prior to picking up my jeep. After looking at the vents I'm wondering if the holes are for cooling and not just water drainage as some have said. Everything I've read about the X model says functional and the parts guy at my dealer said the same, but after spending $1200 for parts, paint, and install I'd expect it to seem more functional. That being said the hood looks amazing! Thanks in advance for any help.

The hood is not functional in stock trim. Although, you can modify it to vent but cutting the "fake vent panels". My buddy is going to do his up with a dremel tool!

i was also very disappointed to see the vents aren't actually functional. why chrysler would make them like that is beyond me. however yea i'm sure with some modding it be made functional.

I don't understand how they can say it's functional then? The existing holes have to do something for heat.

That's one of the reasons I'm probably going to get the Poison Spyder hood lover instead of an after market hood. The vents are very much real and I like the look. Just more labor to install than an actual full hood replacement.

Might want to consider a 2013 takeoff hood. That way you get two windshield washer sprayer nozzles and the stock hood can be retained for future options. That's what I'm looking into anyway if I go PS hood louver route.

I might do that if I can get a decent deal on a hood. No way am I going to cut up my hood, so would have my shop do it. They have experience doing them. So would be nice if I could just drop off a hood and pick it up in a week or so. From what I can tell, this would be a better mod than this Rubi hood because of the ventilation. Seems like it would also be better than doing the AEV hood.

I have a Black JKU, so thinking of getting the lover a different color. Currently thinking orange would look good with the black. I've seen people with other colors of hood and black lover, looks good.

Damn you with your cool two tone hood, sweet half doors, and warm Florida weather.

It is March 3rd...and at 6:30 this morning it was -9 when I took the dog out for a walk to the field near us. On March 1st we got hit with another 6 inches of snow.

Not nine degrees, not minus nine wind chill.....staight up minus 9 air temp..

I hate this thread so much....

looks awesome dude !!! i can't wait to get mine painted. should be maybe this week or so.

I'd like to see if someone has the photoshop skill to do a few different center paint variations. possibly colored outside, black on the inside near the vents and colored in the middle, etc.

im sure there are numerous ways to make this bad ass hood look even better then it already does !!

Had my hood painted a few weeks ago. Loooonnng story short, the jeep is going in again this week to get it to actually use the same blue color and tone as my jeep. I had originally decided to plastidip the powerdome or get it wrapped because the place I took it to wouldn't do anything custom. After seeing 13rian's post I am rethinking this strategy and going to see if the new paint guy thinks he can get the black powerdome area done. That looks amazing.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Sorry about the weather Panthermark, weather guy was commenting on the ice coverage in the great lakes area and how it would probably affect temps throughout spring in that area. I hope he's wrong and you warm up soon.

pbujkurdu; the hardest part for me was the choice to go either with satin black or gloss black. I chose gloss for simplicity of maintenance, just wax and go.

13rian, I think the gloss was the right way to go, I think the satin would have been too dull to get the pop the color difference gives the hood.
Alas, the painter wasn't there when I dropped the jeep off and I didn't think it would get done right without extra oversight, so I am going with either plastidip or the matte vinyl sticker route once I get the hood back.

Note I am not bashing the first painter, the shop had some other issues at the time, I am not sure if the painter actually finished, he was out sick when I came for pickup etc.

I am eagerly awaiting the call to go pick up the Jeep from the second attempt.

Anyways, here are the pics from the first attempt.....

I have a 14 JKURX and the vents most certainly are functional. It's easy to think not but they are. If you look at the underside of each vent assembly you'll see an oblong hole about 1.5" x .5". Now the drain hole you see on the outside does drain through that hole to keep water from puddling on the front edge of each vent. In addition if you stick your finger up in the onlong hole you'll feel it make a 90 degree turn. That's because the bottom side of the vent assembly is an air plenum. Stick a piece of wire into one of the vent slots closest to the windshield and you can push it all the way forward to the front vent. They're all connected and in turn connect to the oblong hole on the underside. Heck if they weren't they'd just fill up with water. I know it doesn't seem like much but in motion you've got positive air pressure under the hood and likely low pressure from air flowing across the top of each vent. That will sure help pull hot air from under the hood. It may not be the ultimate but it is something and keeps the advertising guys happy.

I completely missed that then. Will have to take a look at it next time my buddy is over! Thanks for the very cool info.

I am kind of confused...my Rubi X hood is functional....it isn't much, but there is a hole at the front of the "vents" that allows air to escape. It is elliptical and about 2"x1". Then all of the grating is open.

Like I said, it isn't much but anything to reduce pressure will allow air to escape from the engine compartment better.

I got a request for some other views.

Also, I added a drake hood latch (present from last year) and Carolina Metal Masters hood desnubbers (put the CMM footman loop on in the hood switch)

Finally went to mount my painted 10A hood today and found that the fit is all wrong. It seems fine toward the front, but closer to the windshield, it's too narrow and the hinges don't line up with the holes. Anyone have any similar problems or suggestions? I attempted to contact Mopar Super Center, but guess what? They're closed and their website is gone. I might be screwed here.

Ignore the previous post. I yanked on the back edges twice on each side and now the whole thing lines up perfect. Oops.

I had a painter tell me that new oem jeep hoods were usually shipped with new hinges attached to them. And the hood was painted with hinges installed.

Ive never heard that.

How have you guys swapped hoods in regards to the hinges? the bolts are painted. How do you avoid cracking the paint?
