I'm curious how easily we could get rid of the original hood. Especially a brand new 2013 one (which I have). lol

Once you guys are done fooling around with this hood, get to work on tracking down that front bumper!

This all comes down to need vs. want, as do many mods. I can think of quite a few functional mods $700 bucks could purchase over a fancy looking hood. It does look good though.

Hey All,
My hood just got destroyed by a pipe on the highway, so I'm thinking of upgrading. What would I need to do for the 10a to fit my 2010? Also, I assume the RK fiberglass mentioned above could be painted to match?

Suggestions on aftermarket as close in price to OEM?

Thanks,

S

All you need is the hose, the "t", and 2 squirters. The ones in the '12 won't work. There different than the '13. So you need to buy 2.
@Blackout, Where did you buy the "t", and 2 squirters? I have a hood on it's way and would like to have the parts ready. Thanks for the help.

My local dealer quoted $594 and mentioned the 38 on back order- recommended calling back in June. That's better than the shipped price and if its damaged in shipping no hassles getting that sorted out. Hopefully the plastic inserts are included.

www.tascaparts.com also has it listed for $451. Shipping says $55 but I think that must be a default setting until a zip code is added; they are located in NY. I have ordered a lot of Volvo parts from Tasca, and their online pricing is very competitive for all the manufacturers they sell.

I need to find a very good paint shop in the DC metro area who can properly match Rock Lobster red

My previous years experience in Mopar parts tells me that I'm 99% sure those vents are going to be separate parts. They always sell sheet metal as bare primered parts, under the assumption you already have one and will reuse the pieces from yours on the new one. In this case you can reuse your washer setup since you have a 2013. You can also reuse the hinges and and hold downs as well. If it has underhood insulation, you'll need to order that too since I'm assuming it's different from the standard hood because of the vents. Maybe your existing one could be modified, I haven't seen one in person to verify yet.

One other thing you will definitely need to order is the underhood emissions label. There's a part number on it, and it's the law that your vehicle have one. They're only a few bucks, so make sure you order one with the hood and put it on after its painted. That's what I did on my AEV hood.

Finally, I'm very surprised your dealer told you to call back in June. I would have wanted my customer to get their order in the queue ASAP because they are filled in the order received, unless you upgrade it to special handling which they charge a premium for. Waiting until June could put you even further down the line of getting one.

I've been trying to justify the "need" for a new hood. And so far, I haven't been "lucky" enough to get hit by road debris or hail.

But I do think you could call the AEV or the 10A hood functional because they don't flutter in heavy wind or highway speeds (due to the vents equalizing the air pressure over / under the hood)

Can anyone verify that?

I've always had an AEV hood in my plans, but I like the 10A hood, and for significantly less $$, it just might be the ticket!

The 10A hood DOES vibrate in heavy wind! It's my third JKU and I never noticed it before on the previous Wranglers. But it has only happened on very windy days driving south with crosswind. Didn't make me nervous, but interesting to see. The vents allow heat out, but the holes in the plastic pieces are not as large as you would expect. Someone posted a pic in the 10A thread a few thousand posts back. I'll take a pic as soon as I leave work today.

Can anyone verify that this hood price is a complete hood and will not need additional parts like vents, hinges, etc?!

I have one on order from April that hasn't been filled yet but I was told the vents are included. I'm a little doubtful that the vents come with it but we'll have to wait and see.

Vents & Hood Insulation

I was also told that the vents came with the hood. I'm interested to find out if the hood insulation is also included. I assume the insulation is different with the vent area needing to be clear. I'm pretty sure the hinges are not attached and you would use the ones already on your jeep

If anyone has received their hood, if you could let us know what does and does not come with it.

Thank you for the pics... the vents DO NOT look fuctional. Or minimally functional at best.

Is that the case?

they are functional and could be better but the wind drag over the hood pulls out the heat. ( holes could be dremeled out)

From those pics, it looks like the circular opening at the front of the vent (underhood shot) feeds all 3 of the vents on top. You could probably dremel them open, but then I think it is designed to channel the water out of the way.

This^ is exactly the case. For heat reduction, it could be better. But it's better than the stock non-10A hoods.
This is my third JKU and one thing about this hood is that is makes a high pitch sound on the road. One other 10A owner thinks the same. It's only noticeable when my radio is off, but its there for sure. Still love the hood though!

So your worried about some rain from the top? What about all the water that splashes up from below? There is a BIG gap under the engine.
