Hello all! Long time viewer, first time post. I am going to purchase my first jeep, and my first car under my name. I want to thank pat, rddavisjr, and all the other forum members for all the support. I read most of this thread and feel a lot more informed than before. I am debating whether to get the following 2013 2dr models (billet metallic):

Sport S with the following:

Auto tranny
Power Convenience Group
Air Conditioning
Connectivity Group
3 Piece Black Hardtop
Alpine Sound system

OR

Sahara with the following:
Auto Tranny
Connectivity Group

I'm just curious to see what's worth it in the long run. I used the spreadsheet and realistically want to purchase it with 2% under invoice (I signed up for tread lightly).

It will be my first time working with a salesperson at a dealer so I am not sure the best way to approach him with the price I want. Do I just give him the information/numbers I wrote down and just straight up tell him this is what I'm willing to pay? It seems a lot of you guys are getting your 2013s for 2-3% under invoice.

Void For Vagueness - I saw you recommended going to Papa's Dodge in New Britain, CT. I live in CT and am willing to drive up there if they do solid, honest business. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

As the time to order a Commando approaches, I find that I have a question. (for now) First, thanks to everyone on this panel. I have learned a lot just from reading the 1,000 or so posts. I find myself knowing a bit more then the dealers in my area. Hopefully y'all can help me with this:

I plan on ordering:
Sport S
2 door
Manual
3.73
Alpine sound

I figure I can add the other stuff I want (rock rails, etc.) later. What I am having trouble with is if I should order anti-spin differential/LSD. I have been reading any post I can find on the option and am torn. It would not put me too far out of my budget. This will be my DD and I plan on going off road when I can.

From what I've read, it would be helpful. I will probably end up getting a rubicon before I can afford lockers, so, is it worth it in the meantime?

Thanks!

Good point on the tow package. Although, Hubs wants the "square" one versus the "ball" one (hah, good-luck figuring out those technical terms), so I've got to remember to ask about the style. (Mentally ties string around finger.)
I'm assuming your "Hubs" wants the square receiver because you can plug accessories like bike racks, cargo racks, etc. onto it, as well as the ball for towing. Just something to consider, but I think the stock Jeep tow package comes with a 1 1/4 in receiver. I personally find more accessories require a 2 in receiver. In that case I'd go with aftermarket tow package.

As far as price goes, aftermarket will cost more up front and you won't really see a big drop in your monthly payment for not taking the stock package, but at least you can get exactly what you want.

Plus nothing makes an SUV/ truck look whimpier than a weak looking 1 1/4 in receiver on the back.

if you install the tow package yourself, you can opt for the 7 pin harness that allows for a brake controller rather than the 4 pin that comes from the factory that is just for lights.

A couple of items...

If you are ordering a Sport S package on a 2 door....the 2 door S package comes with AC. (The base 2 door Sport does not come with AC).

and

If you want a hardtop, you will still have to order one for the Sahara.

and

The 2 door S package does NOT come with DEEP tint for the rear windows...you have to order it...or have your windows tinted.

Keep that in mind....

I only paid $347 for it, it's on my 2013 order sheet. But I didn't have to pay MSRP which was $390 on my list. Either way, if you can get if for cheaper and have a neighbor install it for a case of beer, great way to go too!

I like that Jeep is using different wheels on all 3 models this year. It makes more sense...and helps differentiate each model.
Kinda lame considering the alumium wheels are an option on the sahara instead if the black. I just think they look real sharp, I dont understand why they wouldnt let you upgrade wheels from the factory if you order...bummer

6/8 - Order JKUR with Leather

6/22 - given 7/23 scheduled ship date

7/17 - Dealer: contacted me with issue with leather, do I want to change to cloth to keep on schedule. Check VOTS and message "Our apologies, production for leather is delayed and anticipated to resume in mid-August. If you prefer to expedite production by changing to cloth, please contact your dealer/salesperson."

7/18 - Me: Yes, please change my order to cloth

7/20 - Dealer: Chrysler rep tells dealer that my order is "unaffected by the parts shortage so no changes allowed", estimated ship date is now 7/24

7/20 - Me: Call 1-877-426-5337 and get same story dealer got, 7/24 estimated ship date

7/23 - Me: Call 1-877-426-5337 and get a response that there was an update made yesterday on 7/22 and now my estimated ship date is 8/16 (over 3 week delay). Guess the whole "unaffected by parts shortage" wasn't true and now I most definitely have been impacted by the parts shortage since original ship date of today won't be met, nor likely tomorrow. Just emailed dealer to see if he can figure out what the hell is going on. Hopefully he can change me to cloth and pull this date back in.

For some reason I just didn't trust the information I was hearing late last week and my instinct was correct.
Continuing on...

7/23 - Dealer: contacts dealer rep at Chrysler to see what's going on

7/23 - Dealer Rep: Contacts plant mgr to find out why my Wrangler wasn't changed from D1 stats to C as all leather Wranglers were supposed to be changed back to C. Because it was still D1 (even with the new 8/16 ship date) she could not swap the leather to cloth.

7/23 - Plant Mgr: Makes change from Leather to cloth (and allows 2 other minor changes "add side air bags"...)

7/23 - Dealer: Waiting on confirmation but they should be able to now get it built this week.

Had I not called this AM nobody would have noticed this 7/23 to 8/16 delay for several days and VOTS is no help at this stage. I suggest calling and doing so often.

Ahh I knew that I had to order the hardtop regardless. And thanks for the tip about the tints. Adding more options to the Sport S ($28,181 Invoice) Seems cheaper than the Sahara ($29,597 Invoice), but not by much. Hmmmm

And If i want billet metallic which I know doesn't start production until Sept, do I have to wait to place my order, or can I do that now? And will waiting for the billet affect any rebates I want to use such as tread lightly or the college grad? Thanks!

I guess it depends on what other options you want and if you want the factory sidesteps and wheels.

Off the top of my head, the Sahara opens you up to:
Climate control option
730 Nav option
430 Nav option
Painted Top option
Heated seats option
Leather Heated Seats option
Chrome packages options

Plus, it comes with a few goodies that you can't get on a Sport such as:
Daytime running lights
Hood insulation
115V outlet (that is a nice one).

Good luck...I'm sure you will be happy either way.

You can't order Billet yet. That color, along with Commando Green, opens up for ordering August 7th (6th) supposedly.

And TR isn't in the rebate family. You should sign up now and it will be fine for when you take delivery of your JK. There are no rebates on 2013 MY JKs as of right now.

Basically I want the power convenience, auto, AC, and alpine as my options. The other options are awesome (esp that colored hard top) that I would love, but would be over my budget.

All kidding aside. The amount you pay in sales tax is based in the state/county you live. So if your purchasing state has a lower rate, you'd want them to charge the "correct" rate, or you'll have to make up the difference yourself.
Thanks Paul.

Just curious, are all the wranglers made in Toledo?

S package wheel 17X7.5 Aluminum Wheels

That is all I can get on the wheels. Nothing else shows.

Have the equipment delay been lifted?

07/13/2012 - Sahara/Rubicon: Leather trim (*AL) is now unavailable for ordering due to constraint issues.

06/07/2012 - Black/Dark Saddle leather seats (ALXV) are constrained temporarily and will reopen in the next allocation period (July). Production is expected to start on August 20.

My local dealer says he can't submit my order until the 6sp manual and leather constraints have been lifted.

Is this accurate? Thanks

I'm wondering about the September 1 Sales/Press launch date from the first post. If Pat (and presumably other dealers) already has some 2013 inventory orders ready for shipping, aren't dealers going to start trying to sell these things a lot earlier than September 1? Why the almost-month delay in the sales launch? Is this the normal protocol when new MY vehicles are released?

Again, just curious.

they are always slow with the release to make sure every dealer has at least one in stock. Plus I don't think corporate expects dealers to be advertising that info while trying to still sell 12s.

Just like the Dodge Dart. There was some info ahead of time. Then there were these "drive aways", where dealers went to a specified location to pick up their first Dart. In the midwest, dealers had to go to Soldier Field. Now that all dealers have them the commercials have started.

As another example, I posted the Freedom Edition info way before it was advertised by corporate. That was funny, I pissed off a few people at corporate with that one. Corporate should expect that from me though. If I have the info, I'm posting it asap. The info should come from them or from the dealers, not by a 3rd party.

You are correct, JK's come with 2" receivers even if they are rated Class I/II due to their tow ratings.

I would absolutely get LSD if I wasn't getting a Rubicon. I'm for all the help I can get in snowy conditions. I'm sure someone else can get more technical...

this is from a write up I read on the Quadratec site:

Quote:
Limited slip differentials transmit equal torque to both wheels when driving straight. However, when one wheel spins due to loss of traction, a patch of ice, mud, too much throttle, etc., then the unit automatically provides more power to the wheel that has traction. Highly effective for daily driving and works well in rain, mud and snow.
