My 1st vehicle was a 1974 Dodge Maxivan which was my DD and I raced MX and needed it for hauling bikes on weekends. Waited a couple of months even way back then. Also did same on my 96 Dodge Clubcab Dodge and waited some thing like 12 or 13 weeks. As you can see I am a Dodge fan the Avalanche
was the Wife's pick ( her DD ) and she won't be buying a
Chevy again. Actually I think once the Jeep comes and she
drives it the Avalanche wont be in the driveway long ... LOL ....

We also had to walk uphill bare foot in the snow to pick it up... :-)

He probably had to wait so long due to the fact that the first generation Grand Cherokee debuted in 1992. He ordered 6 years too early.

I'm not sure if you're being funny or serious here. I didn't say he ordered a Grand Cherokee. I said he ordered a Jeep Cherokee. To be specific, he ordered a Jeep Cherokee XJ which were produced from 1984 - 1996. Prior to that, Jeep had a Cherokee SJ that was produced from 1974 - 1983.

Uh.. what? 6 years too early? I'm lost..

The Cherokee debuted in 1983 and by the mid-80s it even had a diesel engine option.

I believe they were referring to the original Cherokee which started in 84', not the Grand Cherokee.

A couple questions I haven't seen answered yet:

1) Anyone have a clue what the difference is between the standard leather and Katzkin?
2) Will the Connectivity Kit allow for bluetooth audio streaming from a smartphone, or is the 430N required?
3) Lastly, on a Sahara, are the 3.73 gears available with manual tranny?

AWESOME thread, AWESOME site, thanks everyone!

There are so many pages that I can't remember the page. I live in Northern VA and am purchasing the car in Long Island NY bc thats where I will be moving too eventually, but I was curious if anyone would be interested in the New Rubicon Rims bc they are not my favorite! If any one is interested let me know before they ever get used...

1) Because we're excited

3) Because we want to :-)

As much as some cant understand our impatience, some of us cant imagine being as excited as a little kid at Christmas time....

1. Katzkin is a seat cover. You'd have the cloth or whatever underneath. They are a little more customizeable than the standard leather seats. (Though, this might be entirely inaccurate and someone who actually has Katzkin could tell you more)

2. Someone will have to confirm this for me, but connectivity group should allow you to stream audio without a nav system.

3. Yes, you can have 3.73 gears on a manual transmission on a Sahara.

I have to assume any of the '12 exterior add ons would fit a '13. When I thought the Sahara tires were going to be the black satin finish, I was just going to add a couple of black accent pieces. But after seeing the actual wheels, I'm going to order a chrome grill and side steps. And since I have to wait an extra month, and it's my birthday, i was going to go ahead and order them. Anyone see any issues with those two items and probably chrome tail light brush guards?

Thanks in advance.

I can no longer lookup my VIN/VON in VOTS since they changed the Leather to Cloth either. Maybe I should just stop calling.
Two weeks ago the lady at 1-877-I-AM-JEEP said that my jeep woild be built by 8/9 or 8/10 and would ship on 8/13. Then I called last Saturday for a update and was told that there was no build date or ship date and that my jeep was still scheduled for production. At the time I was not very happy to hear this. The lady said that sometimes things change with the scheduling. As of right now I am left hanging with no build date or ship date. I was told to try calling again for a update in a few days.

Nothing's a guarantee but since we've heard no exterior updates (other than the dual windshield washer nozzles and wheels) for 2013 I'd be willing to take that risk and order 2012 exterior items. I plan to order rock rails and a hitch once I have an idea when my 2013 will be coming.

Honestly I love both the new wheel styles for Sahara and Rubi. I do admit, that the Sahara wheels would look much better in a more gunmetal or charcoal color though...nothing some plastidip or powdercoat couldnt fix though!

I dont care for chrome on a Jeep anyplace but the rims and even then it all depends on the rims. IMO, the grill and sides steps getting chromed is a bad move but it's your Jeep and your money. I would wait and see what it looks like before I did anything and search Google images for some pictures to get an idea of the look you are going for.

1. above is incorrect. Katzkins are custom leather upholstery that replaces the original factory upholstery, they are not seat covers that go over the original material. So if your Jeep comes with cloth, that cloth is removed and replaced with Katzkin leather. If your dealer is a Katzkin reseller, they should have color swatches to choose from. You can have different color for different parts of the seats. Often the dealer will send your Jeep to a local upholstery shop to do the replacement. Usually takes a day or two. You can play with the color selector tool at:

Seat Color Selector by Katzkin

I read on here someplace that one of the suppliers (Smittybuilt,Ace,?) called Jeep and there were no changes to the exterior that would affect things like bumpers, rock rails, etc. True? Who knows but I thought I'd share.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if I was accurate. I'm sure if I actually read the website instead of skimming, i could have given the right answer!

+ 1 on that. I feel like the chrome accessory look is / was a trend that's been over for a year now at least. A small amount of chrome may always look good but it's quickly overdone. The black wheels I think is also a trend that while it looks good on many now, a couple years from now might look dated. I think wheel designs in general are something that can quickly go in and out of style. Good argument to the wife when it's time to get new rims. Chances are, by that time, she'll have spent more than the cost of your new rims on new shoes! Start saving shopping receipts now ha ha

Agree. I like black bumpers, trim, and fender flares. Not a fan of chrome anywhere...or body-painted flares, roof, or whatever. It's a jeep.

The same kind that reads the paperwork on his/her mortgage contract and finds mistakes before agreeing to them. The kind that knows mistakes happen, and is astute enough to catch them. The kind that may get paid to notice things that others gloss over. I could go on, but I honestly don't know why you are attempting to attach a value statement around someone being detail oriented.

I'm not neurotic, but I am well informed. Paying attention to details has certainly allowed me to make better decisions...
