With that much money at stake, I would only suggest that you read what you sign VERY carefully.

My first question of someone offering that package would be: Do you have that little faith that this vehicle will not last without issue beyond 3 years?

Warranties are a funny thing. One is provided only under two circumstances. Either the manufacturer expects issues or they don't. The choice is yours.

As you might expect, I don't buy extended warranties unless I actually anticipate issues. I've had my 08 for over 4 years and it has been flawless. It has the included (in 08) "lifetime" powertrain warranty, which has never been used. In a monment of weakness, I bought the lifetime oil change package, which fortunately has already paid for itself. Not having to cough up oil change funds encouraged me to keep to the maintenance schedule.

Maybe Pat could post up the Maxicare agreement and we could all pick it apart. I'm pretty sure Chrysler requires that he offer the package in oder to fulfill his agreement, so no foul, but buyer beware.

Spoken from someone who has been lucky enough not to have any problems.

I had a 7 yr powertrain on my 05 GC and had it been a 3 yr I would have spent well over that $2500. And the 7yr expired this month and just spent another $480 at the service center. Just to get me to when I can get into the freakish JK color rotation I want.

That being said I would understand exactly what bumper-bumper means, maintenance terms, and co-payment.

Now I think its common sense that extended warranties are provided from the manufacturer for ONE reason - so that the dealer can make money. Particularly with a lifetime warranty as they expect 95% of people to sell the vehicle within probably 5 yrs or so. Jeep doesnt care if they lose money for 5% of people who keep it longer. THIS is why extended warranty is generally considered a bad deal for the consumer. If you truly expect to keep the vehicle for a longer period of time, there is actually a good chance you will get you money back at least. And even if not quite get money back then sometimes the peace of mind itself is priceless. IMHO.

You hit it right on the head
The Dealer I am using is knew (within the last year) to the Chrysler line. They were a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Dealer and I almost didn't even go in because I seriously did not think they would agree to the price of the Jeep I was looking for (2.5% below invoice with no rebates but using Tread Lighty so they get the 2% return). I was straight forward with them right from the beginning. With 10 min of walking in the agreed
to the price. As for the Lifetime MaxiCare warranty it was the same deal. Believeit or not the Finance guy even said same as you and asked HOW LONG do I keep my vehicles. I pointed out to the truck I drove in with and said it will be 11 years old this Fall and has 135,000 miles on it (2001 Dodge 2500 4x4 QuadCab). Then he asked if I was trading it in and I said nope ... It got a few years left in it. Almost all our trucks (that is all we buy the Wife and I) stay with us until 150,000 miles and or 10+ years. The Warranty is NON-TRANSFERABLE with a $100 deductible, Unlimited Mileage and Years owned. It is the same as their 7 Year/100,000 Warranty. Also comes with $35 a day car rental up to $175 max per occurrence. $100 Towing/Roadside assistance and $1000 trip interruption
protection. On the brochure it says over 5000 parts it coversand lists a crap load on back side. I think it would have been easier to list what it will not cover. Best part was the guy was very kewl about it and did not pressure me in any way to get it or not. Even said he would not even be in when I pick it up and to just let my Salesman know. I am getting to like this dealership more and more each time I go in

Does this coverage require that the dealer perform all maintenance? Some of these plans do require this which is a problem for the DIY guys like me. I tend to only take vehicles to the dealer if I know the issue is covered under warranty.

4206, that's the number of posts in this thread. It took me months, literally, of my free time to go through them all. No offense intended, but can we move side discussions off to a new thread?

it seems the tread isn't moderated.

I'd recommend we start new threads like

(1) extended warrantee discussions
(2) photos of our new 2013 wranglers
(3)...

i think it would keep topics focused.

Again, no disrespect meant, but having to search through pages in order to follow all very interesting sidebar discussions is a bit difficult, and the size of this thread is intimidating for newbies trying to learn about the 2013 models

Lifetime max care warranty covers 5008 components. It is a Chrysler warranty that is good at any Chrysler dealership nationwide. You have your choice of deductible, $0 to $200. You do not have to do all of your maintenance at the dealership.

The only items not covered are glass, plastic and soft trim, items used during maintenance such as oil, oil filter, etc. manual trans clutch is never covered, snow plows are not covered. And something else but I can't remember right now.

Just like any extended warranty you would buy for your washer or tv, if the amount of the repair exceeds the value of the jeep then Chrysler cuts you a check and the warranty is done.

Rob, I grew up in northern Maine and I miss that new England accent! Congrats, your jeep is awesome.

Those threads already exist, you can do a search for them. Between myself and member MTH( an attorney) all of the questions about lift kits/other mods and warranty have been answered.

I think my message was suggesting that instead of adding to this gargantuan thread, if there were forum moderators at the site, they could move the sidebar topics to those threads you mentioned, Pat.

Thank You VERY, VERY much
I have been with this thread since the beginning and it
and those involved with all the pre release info was
INVALUEABLE with my purchase. I knew ZERO about
the Jeep Wrangler's, knew a little about MSRP verus
Invoice but not about OTHER programs like Tread Lightly
and lastly nothing about the different type of non factory
verus factory warranty's. I think with the deal I got that
I owe an HUGE gratatude to you all here
That being said .... I PM you with one last urgent
request on your thoughts on warranty.
BTW ... I live on the MA\NH border closer to VT so I
don't visit Maine but do spend ALOT of time in Central NH
riding the Harleys and snowmobile there and Northern NH.

The way I see it... We know this thread is long. It is usually pretty easy to see if something is off-topic, and you can skip over it. Alternatively, feel free to ask questions that may have already been asked. No one in this thread has been snappy about answering the same thing multiple times.

P.S. It is kind of funny to complain about off topic discussions only to cause one. :-D

I agree that this thread is fine the way it is. Most "off topic" discussions are still pretty pertinent to people considering/already purchasing a 2013. If you want the basic info, go to the first post- it's all there. If you want speculation and rumors (like when exactly certain colors might be available, etc.) then you have to dig for them, because they're just speculation and rumors.

Rob .....

I thought they weren't offering this anymore, but the fact that they do is a big factor in wanting a new JKU.

I have this warranty on my Patriot (okay, I know!). At about 75,000 miles, my engine was making a high pitched noise. Took it to the dealer, and got my loaner car.

Call #1 from dealer: Well, we changed out the belts, and it still is making the noise. We'll let you know what we find.

Call #2 from dealer: We greased your CV joint, and re-packed the bearings, still making the noise.

Call #3 from dealer: We put in a new transmission, not making any noises now, come on in!

Cost to me? $100.

You have a great point, if you keep it for any extended period of time, it's worth it. As I plan on keeping a new JKU for many years, the warranty is one of the selling points for me!

After buying 2 extrended warranties (on Hondas, no less) for a grand total of $4000, and having those warranties cover a combined $10000 worth of repairs, I will never buy a car without an extended warranty again.

With the extended warranties, are people factoring in mods? I know mods don't completely void your warranty, but it could void warranty work on some components.
Are people buying extended warranties not planning to mod, or is it still worth it?

Paul
I put a LOT of miles on my vehicles and like to keep them as long as possible, so I usually buy the 5 year, 100,000 mile warranties most car companies offer and want to sell the vehicle when the warranty expires because I've seen major problems right when the warranty is about up. I had a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab that had front and rear end issues just passed the 100,000 mile mark. Both major expenses to repair. My 2004 Wranger, that I absolutely loved, had the rod bearings going out at the 185,000 mile mark -- that's usually a new engine. So I sold it to someone more mechanically inclined than I (and the reason I'm now on this thread).

With the lifetime warranty, I don't need to worry about putting 20,000+ miles on my new Jeep. When I'm ready for a new Jeep down the road, I'll likely keep this Jeep in my name and give it to one of my kids to drive knowing that if they have any mechanical issues, it'll be covered since it'll still be legally mine.

So the real question with regard to a lifetime warranty is how many miles you plan to put on it and how long do you plan to keep it. The sales man also made a great point that if you do plan to sell it at some point down the road, you can bring it in to get bumper to bumper repairs and you can show that to prospective buyers to show it's in top shape.

I've seen a few "this thread is so long!" posts, but I thought the referenced numbers were off...that there couldn't possibly be thousands of posts in this thread. But I just checked and there are! And I've enjoyed every one of them. I'm always a little disappointed when I log in and only a few new comments have been posted since the last time I checked...30 minutes earlier, or so. I'm only a little hooked on this thread...

That is true, but what it does is puts a placeholder in the Jeep system. So, my allocation is now guaranteed. And as stated in the first post, the production of the Commando isn't until 9/4, so yes, even if I was coming back it would be delayed until then anyway.

And there may be an ENCS benefit since the Commando was in their system until Tuesday, so maybe they do get it a bit in advance of CONUS. And I am hearing that Canada has it opened...BS IMO.

Can anyone tell me if this is how it works on the JK? Looking at getting a 2013 unlimited rubicon

Thanks
To answer your question, "Yes". It was shown to me, but I have yet to try it.

Very cool! I see they mounted your spare tire a bit cock-a-maimy like they did mine. Last night I "had" to take it off and rehang it so the white lettering was at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. Even popped the center cap off and repositioned. Much better now. Took the front tops off for my trek home last night. Truck showed 96 degrees here in Chicago. Probably not the smartest thing to do.

You can wait 30 minutes between checking it?!

You have way more willpower than me!

After contacting multiple dealers about ordering Commando Saturday morning i have two that said they would check first thing and call if it's available. I think I'm going to go into my local dealer and have them check in the morning too. I'm amazed I didn't even get call backs from several dealers even though I said I would be ordering a JKUR as soon as the color opened up.

I know I can get the T/L 1% but doubt I'll try for more since I just want to get the order in and not wait any longer. It would be great to get 2% or even 2.5% like some have posted.

If I get it ordered Saturday I'll post as soon as I can.

If you're checking on VOTS, I think it only updates once a day. For mine, it showed Frame on 7/24, Trim on 7/25 (never showed me Paint), Final Inspection on 7/26, and Shipment on 7/27.
