Since I'm going to order either Billet or Rock Lobster, I figured I'd do a little back alley color comparison to the previous Bright Silver and Flame Red. Pat was right, Rock Lobster definitely looks like a brighter Flame Red. Billet looks much darker to me as well. Please excuse the crudeness of my pics, did it as quickly as I could on my work Dell.

In other news, who else keeps saying "Red Lobster" in their head?
I am looking at commando and rock lobster. If the above is accurate its one step closer to rock lobster for me!

Billet has a touch of Winter Chill to it.....hmmmm....

Commando, Billet, Anvil......or....Furious Fuchsia? :hide:

Just pulled the trigger on a 2013 Rubicon. Dealer gave me just over $900 under invoice (2.6% below) where the Tread Lightly would have only given me $350 below invoice so I'm happy. This will be MY first Jeep (though my wife has a 2007 Rubicon). Selling the GMC 2500HD Diesel truck after this comes in. Will be the first time without a pickup truck in 20 years so maybe I'll need to pickup a small 4x8 utility trailer. Over the past 5 years I've grown to really love my wife's Jeep, I do all maintenance and service on our vehicles and it's 10x easier to work on her Jeep than any other vehicle I've ever owned plus it's so damn easy to mod to which was not the case with the 2500HD. Heck my 8000 lb floor jack I use on the front end of the big truck could lift the whole Jeep! The cost of parts is also like a 3rd of what they are on my truck now. Anyways, here's the build:

JKUR 6spd Gecko
Hard Top
Connectivity Grp
Climate Control Grp
Leather seats

Chose not to do the pricey tow group and get the $90 hitch/harness from Quadratec. Dealer estimates delivery end of July, personally I think he's out of his mind from what I've seen on this forum but I'm fine if it doesn't come in until September, got a busy summer and won't have too much time to play with it until the fall.

Congrats! But yeah, I can't see it being ready by the end of July....that is when they start building them.

Also (for others), Tread Lightly (or any other Affiliate Discount) guarantees that the price wont' be higher than 1% below invoice. You can always negotiate below 1%.

Just about every dealer I emailed, 5 total, said they would honor the Chrysler affiliates program. When I emailed the 6th one I simply asked for best price with options and he ended up beating the others so I never brought up the affiliates program. I'd try that approach, all dealers within 15 miles of 01760 is what i did, maybe the competition in this area (metro west Boston) is why? If you want I can pm you my salesman contact info and you can call him direct, be a little drive for you as it was the dealer furthest south of me.
Did these dealers provide pricing via email? I cannot get anything other than an automated response followed by a call.

Well it all sounds good...I did enjoy buying my jeep so that makes me a little jealous...but I think I will stick to my 2010 with my plug and play Super chips programer :p

@Milous or @Up_Hill_Bill (or anyone else with info), can you confirm the 2013 Interior colors please? I received a POC on 6/5 that included "-XV Black / Dark Saddle", but they would only go to $500 under invoice, so I went with another dealer on 6/6 who offered $1,000 under invoice, but when we did the build out, the only interior option that was available was -X9 Black, -XV was no longer listed. Is that just a ordering glitch or have they restricted the Dark Saddle interior (or are in the process of changing it to a new color)? According to the dealer, I still have time to change the interior color. They are trying to track down what's going on with the interior colors, but I haven't heard back from them.

Thanks!

I want to thank Milous and Pat for all of the information they have provided in this thread. I was having trouble deciding between a standard color 2012, a freedom edition 2012, or holding out for a 2013. No offense to anyone, but I am not a big fan of any of the 2012 colors. Since Pat and Milous have provided/confirmed the changes to the 2013 including the new colors, I'm going to go for a 2013. (I REALLY like the commando, the billet, and the tru blue.)

I also wanted to share my experience with my local Jeep dealer. Today, I met with my salesman and the store manager. I told them that I would be purchasing a Jeep using the Chrysler Affiliate program. The store manager said "No problem." I told them that I was a Ph.D. student and qualified for the $500 college graduate rebate. The store manager said that as long as that rebate is effective that it is no problem as well. I also told him that I would receive a bonus check for several thousand dollars at the end of July so I would like to order my vehicle sometime in July. Again, no problem. Finally, I told him that I really want a 2013. However, if he had to sell a 2012 at the end of June to meet a quota and if he really wanted to give me a good deal, he was welcome to call me at the end of June and maybe we could work something out.

My current plan is to do nothing until June passes. I want to see if he will offer me an unbelievable deal on a 2012. (I don't expect anything to happen.) I plan to place a deposit and order my 2013 during the first week of July. I will arrange financing with the dealer and with my bank and see which one is better. I will buy the Jeep after July 31 once I receive my bonus money.

Does anyone see a problem with this scenario? I think I will get a good but not great deal following this approach. (I find the haggling process distasteful and I don't want to spend the time necessary to get a great deal.) Also, if I place my 2013 order during the first week in July, when do you think it will actually arrive at the dealer?

Again, thanks to Pat and Milous. Your 2013 info helped me get to this point in my decision making process. Pat, I honestly feel like I should do business with you but I am located 8 hours away in Alabama. If you want to talk to me about it, send me a private message. Otherwise, I will deal with my local dealer.

My last big worry is the Pentastar ticking issue. I've decided to roll the dice and hope Jeep has it resolved for 2013. Also, I drove a 2012 with the Pentastar today. Holy crap! While the Wrangler didn't feel like a sports car, it was a million times better than my 2002 Wrangler X and my 1973 CJ-5.

To reply to my own post, I'm leaning towards the commando color which starts production on September 4th. Am I correct in assuming that I would have to wait 4-6 weeks after this date to receive my Jeep?

Pat, thanks for your explanation of the VPA. Two questions:

1. So are dealers even more motivated to move stock that DOES qualify?

2. Is there any reason a dealer would rather sell a new model off the lot than order one? Both sales have the same effect on the quota, right?

Thanks again. I'm new here but I find your posts especially helpful. If all auto salespeople were as straightforward as you are, I think we'd all be better off - including the salespeople!

1. Some might be, most see the big picture and sell whatever they can to hit the objective

2. Off the lot is a "now" sale and counts this month. Ordering is a sale down the road and the money back changes every quarter. If a dealer can get $800 back now and only $400 in 2 months they are going to want the $800.

Holdback on my rig is shown on the order sheet as $1261, which works out to 2.9992% of $42,045 ($42,970 MSRP less $925 destination).

My invoice price is listed as $40,126, and 3% of that is $1203.78.

Note to all dealers out there...

Don't order so damn many black and silver Wranglers... That is pretty much all that is left on the lots.....and there is a good reason for it...

You pay this interest to Chrysler? What's the rationale? Sorry for the newb questions- I'm just a curious person.
Dude, think of it like this: You now own a dealership. You start your inventory with 20 vehicles that YOU bought. Your very first customer comes through the door--he wants you to order a car! Well, you have 20 cars you just purchased! Imagine if every customer wanted you to order, as well...

Don't overthink it is all I'm saying.

Yeah, I get that dealers want to move stock. I saw your kind and not-at-all arrogant response to that already, thank you very much. Now I'm interested in learning about the floorplan interest.

Thanks for your advice, but I'll think about whatever I want, dude.

Little by little I'll start changing the perception of the auto industry. I know, it's a lofty goal...

But from what I have read here, some of the folks are taking the info from here and putting deals together and so far I haven't really heard anyone say they got the price they wanted but still had a horrible experience. As I have already said here in numerous other threads, price isn't everything. It's 80-90% of it, the other 10-20% is making sure you buy from a dealer that is going to take care of you after that sale. You want a dealer that's in it with you for the long haul. All I can say is while researching the product and price, spend 15 minutes and research the dealership. Go to the online review sites, the BBB, and make sure you are spending your money in the right place. Anyone can sell you a Jeep, it comes down to which place is going to give you the best customer service years down the road.

Agreed on the post purchase relationship! I'm having an issue with my Infiniti dealer regarding a warranty issue. I've always serviced the truck with them and they're not working to get Infiniti to pay for a $500 power window motor when the truck was only 2 months out of warranty. We are still well under the 60K mileage warranty but 2 months out of the 4 year part. This is souring me on the dealership as a whole and, depending upon if they step up or not, will influence future purchases. Since I'm only 36, that's a whole lotta purchases! :whistling:

Right but it's still a huge amount of money per month. We floor plan with BOA but it might change to Chase since Ally Bank and Chrysler are going their separate ways soon. ALLY is our lender but we will probably go to chase and then floorplan with them. Our floorplan averages 25-30,000 per month.
I understand how much it is.....I've helped put a few floor plan deals together :)

Many people think car makers just send them out to dealers to sell, when its nothing like that at all.

I feel like I read it somewhere, if so I can't find it so my apologies for possibly asking this again: I will be ordering a JKU Sahara a.s.a.p., what has changed to the base JKU Sahara, what have they dropped and what have they added to the base?

@ pat, thanks for the all the info, I appreciate the time and effort you put into this. If I would live closer to you I would get it from you, I like the way you conduct business.

Pat,

I didn't see the base invoice and MSRP for a Sport S model in your numbers. I'm making a 2013 Wrangler pricing spreadsheet that I plan to post here once I'm finished with it.

Thanks,
Ron
