Why would you do that? Just order the dual top group with the body color option that way you already have all the wiring and what not for the rear wiper, window heater etc... otherwise when you add the factory top you will need to buy all the wiring harnesses, switches etc..

Agreed. I may do just this as well since there's some experimenting I want to do to a hard top that involves cutting. Best to get a used one for that than to cut up my body colored one.

How much of a discount have people been getting of 2012s sitting on the lot?

Thanks for the help.
I also have these same 3 questions. Destination/freight charges, other fees, 2012 discounts?

Rob got it right- because you can't get a body-colored hard top with a sport. I actually ordered a black (regular) hard top with my sport- I was just curious about whether a body-colored top could be ordered somewhere down the line.

Depends on where you are looking at the invoice price in these posts.
On my POC (Price Order Confirmation) that I got at the Dealer
it lists the Destination separatly.
Other fees can be haggled to ZERO.
Taxes and Plate fees are set by your State.
I went in knowing the Invoice Price, what they got for Holdback
and what they were going to get from the Tread Lightly Discount.
I was not qualified for any other discounts.
So I knew their profit margin other than any special ones they
quailfy for. Knowing that I decided what was my bottom number
I wanted to pay. Just so happen it was a nice round number of $33,000
out the door including any Dealer paperwork.
Sahara Unlimited, Max Tow, Limited Slip and Dual Top.

You will need to be a tread Lightly member for 30 days as well. It's written in the packet somewhere.

Unless his Jeep will be built/delivered in 7 days, he'll be just fine

Does that mean that orders for the next allocation should be DONE by then, or they cant START until then? I am planning to go order mine right around that date so I can get in on the first round of billets and wonder if I should take that day off work to get in there asap.

BTW, you guys on this forum rock! The dealerships are mostly clueless compared to the info on here.

edit: meant to quote post above about the August 7th allocation date

That's the date Pat said allocations open up for the next round. They start then. Going by the dates in the OP, I'm assuming Commando Green (and Billet) will be available to order then.

I was thinking of joining tread lightly as my buying has been stalled due to the leather constraints. However I was wondering about 2 things.

First, if anyone has used the discount aside from the $60 membership, did they have to pay other fees with the dealer?

I read this on tread lightly - "*The Preferred Price is the maximum amount to be charged by a participating U.S. dealer for an eligible vehicle. See dealer for details. A $75 administration fee applies."

So lets say for a $40k purchase it would be a roughly $400 discount - $60 membership - $75 administration = $265 in savings. Is that right?

I stalled joining tread lightly for another reason as well. I was unsure of who the membership has to be under in order for the discount to apply.

I was hoping to be the main financial borrower, but depending on the interest rate, I might be better off with having a parent put it under their name. However, I'm not sure yet since I haven't ran my credit and therefore I wouldn't know until the date comes to purchase.

Would I still get the discount if the vehicle under my name but my parent ends up doing the finance? Or should I put it under my parents off the bat? I guess I'm wondering if the discount is transferable in a sense.

Thanks!

When you join Tread Lightly, it enrolls you in Chrysler Affiliate Rewards Program. As you already know, the MAXIMUM that can be charged is 1% of invoice under invoice plus Chryslers $75 doc fee. When dealers honor this program, Chrysler reimburses the dealer 2% of invoice. Basically the dealer gets an average of a few hundred over invoice and keep all of the holdback once they are reimbursed.

Some dealers, like myself give all 2% back and waive the Chrysler doc fee of $75 since I have my own dealer doc fee. So on a $40k purchase, you could get 2% of $40k=$800. The only fees or charges that can be added are dealer doc fee, license and title fees, sales tax, any accessories you purchase, and any extended warranties or maintenance contracts you purchase.

As long as you are on the paperwork, you can use the control number. You do not have to be first on the loan or the paperwork. EDIT: most banks will want you on the loan if you are going to be on the title. Chances are, you won't be on the title if you are not on the loan. It might be different from bank to bank, but all of the major national lenders are that way.

I think I was the first one to advertise giving the full 2% back on this forum and I do it because it allows the consumer to purchase under invoice with no haggling, and I, as a dealer, get it back so I am not out anything either. I keep most of my 3% holdback and move another new unit rather quickly. It's a win win. As I have said in numerous posts my deal is not meant to be the best, it's meant to be a no haggle no BS deal that allows you to buy under invoice.

I understand that ordering for the manuals is closed until early August and that there is an issue with leather seats as well but is ordering still opened for JKUR automatics w/o leather?

Let me add another criteria to this as well. Since I must have a manual and I must have Commando Green, then the earliest I can place my order is on August 7th. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Ron

Thanks from me, too, for the in-depth reply. I'm shopping for a new Jeep and am completely puzzled by how best to go about it. This is such helpful information.

You all get way too worried about Dealer fees and such.
Let me try to give you and example.
My Invoice ( not MSRP ) was $33,860 including destination fee. Not sure how you figure the holdback amount but mine was $1,053 which is close to 3% of the Invoice price.
Now using Tread Lightly they get another 2% back which equals $677. Lastly the Dealer I went to charges $150 Doc fees. So their total profit is $1,880 ( not counting any other special incentives they may get ). So according to the Tread Lightly discount I would get $338 but they could charge another $75 which would lower my T/L savings to $263.
So at a minimum I would pay $33,597 and they would make $1,617 ( 1,880 - 263 = 1,617 ). Well I decided I wanted to save another $597 to bring my total to an even $33,000 and they could make and easy $1020 just for ordering it. They do not have to worry about being on their lot to sell or anything. Just pure profit and another vehicle sold towards their montly allocation for any incentives they can profit from. I did not
care where they took the $597 from. Either part of their
Holdback and/or part of their 2% back from T/L.

Did any of your sold leather orders change to D?

We still didn't hear anything from anyone as far as Chrysler calling dealers....

I left a message but I didn't get a call back. Only my stock orders changed from leather to cloth. Sold orders are still all D1.

Get the black one... then buy a painted one used like I did for $1700, and then sell your black one for $1500!

If your 40K is MSRP then your savings are even bigger.

I believe that all Rubicons are on restriction until the next ordering period. We tried to build a Rubicon and the system wouldn't let us pull that up this weekend.

Pat,
I ordered on 6/13, have confirmed in VOTS, but every time I ask my sales rep he just says it should be there any day (even when I asked him to look it up in dealer connect) ..is there any other way to get a more detailed status? I'm assuming 7/23 build and arriving early August..
thanks,
T.Y.
