2014 door removal

What is up with this wiring harness clip. I have these big monster hands and a can't manipulate the little red clip. Does it go up or down? There is no room under there to get anything on it to push/pull it. How the heck do you get it I clipped? It feels like it isn't moving.
I'm sure it's me but how does it work.

I can't remember which way you have to push/pull the release, but I do know it gets easier after you've done it a couple of times. First time Mike was , now it's only a one job.

I hate those friggin clips. 4 years with them and I STILL can't get them undone. Last time, after fighting for 1/2 hour, I ended up driving to a Jeep friends work & he undid them in 1/2 a second. I feel dumb but those things suck.

I've had my 2014 doors off 2x. No problem. Just reach in, feel around, and squeeze the clip. Mine come right apart with a little wiggle. So I guess the answer to your question is the clip doesn't go up or down. It gets squeezed.

I had the front doors off yesterday for the 1st time and it took all of 10 minutes to take them off. I do agree that the wiring harness clip was a bit stiff but it wasn't a huge hassle.

I just push the small tab on the clip down hard then pull them right out each time. Strange that it's being such a pain for you guys.

There is a red plastic locking clasp on each one of the plugs. On the driver side, you have to push it towards the front with a finger and the and then grasp it with your fingernail and disengage it completely. It's opposite on the passenger side. After that, on the top of the plug, there is a release that must be pressed in, then the plug should pull right out straight down.

Pull the red clip toward you; then there's a second clip that doesn't slide like the red one does, and it's on the male plug, which is the one attached to the wiring from the door. Squeeze and pull ... if it's not releasing, you're either not squeezing enough, or you're squeezing in the wrong spot.

Everyone is right ... once you do it the first time, after that you won't have a problem.

I had the same problem. The red clips don't slide up or down. They fold out or wing out. Then push the tab at the bottom and the fitting slides out of the housing.

My 2014 doesn't have the locking tab. The harness end changed at some point. That's why I can't get adapters to plug in my half doors. The existing adapter I was sold still has the older connector with the red locking tab.

I was confused by this when I first got my JKU. I have the new style connections that just have the retention tab that you push in and pul the connector down. They are great.

Yeah guess they made it easier for us 2014's....takes more work to lift the doors off the hinges than it does to unplug them

Whew! I read through this thread thinking, "What on EARTH are you people talking about? Red connectors? Multiple squeeze locks? Trouble getting them undone?" Thanks for clarifying that the newer '14s are different, CiarraKerry (by the way, my daughter's name is Ciara; your spelling's off!)

Anyway, I have never even looked at the thing. Just followed the wire with my hand, came to a standard automotive electrical connector, squeezed in the place you always squeeze, and off it came. Seemed very intuitive to me. Sounds like they did something right by uncomplicating this connector.

He spells his the CORRECT Irish way, NoGaBiker! (just kidding!, but that is the Irish spelling)

I haven't taken my doors off yet, so I didn't realize the 14s had changed. Mike has a 13.

I can't wait to take my doors off!

Still can't get it off lol. So if I have this right 2013 had the red tab you slide to the side. Then you squeeze and pull out. 2014 still have red tabs that I may have to manipulate somehow correct? Some say push them up others say they fold down. Others say just squeeze and remove. The part I squeeze must be the tab at the bottom and I push that in and remove clip. Which I've tried multiple times today. So I'm assuming the red tab is the culprit.

As of February 2014, this is what they look like. One gray tab in the perfect location as you are pulling down already.

Just push on the little tab in the middle and pull straight down. Of course if your hand is too big a small screwdriver should work.
I have no problems at all since the first time.

Funny that they ditched the old style red tab on the door harness, but kept it in place for the hard top rear window harness.

Thx all. I'll give it another shot tomorrow. Might just be tight and need a good tug. Didn't want to just rip it out.
I'll say it again, this site is amazingly informative. Jeepers seem like a swell bunch.

I got my 2014 JKU in July and I have this same connector. First time I tried to undo the clip I was getting frustrated. Everyone says slide the red clip, no red clip. Just kept pinching and pulling and it finally came apart. Much easier after the first time. There are still red clips like in the light switches, but not on the doors.
