2014 Owners! Opinions on U430 (non-navi)

2014 owners with the U430 (non-navi). What are your opinions? Is it worthwhile for the $695 price tag?

I went to the dealer today to build a JKU and it has 430 nav as an option. I was surprised being it wasn't available last year.

If you were building a Sport, then it was a 430, but the non Nav version. Sports can order 430 without nav, Sahara and Rubi can order 439 with Nav or 730N.

Well here is my 2 cents. I bought my 14 JKU with the 430 non NAV with the thinking that it had the hands free/blue tooth capability with unconnect. Didn't want the NAV as my Garmin Nuvi works very well. Well as it turns out, my own stupidity, that I did not have the connectivity group that adds those abilities. I wanted to add it after the fact but was going to be a pain in the butt and would not have the steering wheel controls. So now I have this touch screen radio. Was it worth 695......not really. To get the full function out of it you need to have the connectivity group. Hope this helps

I have the 430 with connectivity and upgraded Alpine speakers in my '14 Sport 2 door. Overall I'm pretty pleased with the sound from CDs I uploaded to the hard drive. The hard drive feature is awsome. Radio sourced sound is OK. The hands-free functionality and uconnect feature work well with my Iphone. For me it was a must since my 19 year old daughter uses the Jeep a lot and the radio, connectivity and hands-free seem to be the most important to that generation. I suppose when I go to sell this vehicle down the road those features will be attractive to younger people.

I like my 430N and alpine system in my '14 JKUR. Much better sounding than my system in my '12 Passat TDI Sport.

Doesn't the OEM bluetooth module from Mopar allow you to use your steering wheel controls??

No. That was my issue. When you add that what you get is a microphone and a connector that plugs into the back of the radio to give you the Bluetooth ability. Without the connectivity group to begin with you physically don't have those controls on the steering wheel. That is a huge under taking and a cost I could live without. So if you want it go with the connectivity group from the beginning.

I think I made a mistake when I ordered my sport S I got the 130 radio figured I'd up grade to aftermarket unit for far less than the the 430 unit at $695 little did I know the sport S comes with steering wheel controls and I thought the 130 would have a USB port but does not so hers question
What do I get if I pay bucks to get the non nav 430 radio unit
Many thanks for your insights fellow jeepers

i ordered mine with the U430 for 2 reasons...#1 is that i will be focused on exterior mods for a while and dont want to have to worry about the head unit for a while. #2 is that when i DO get around to doing the sound system, there are TONS of people with buyers remorse looking for a U430...

Yea like me
IV looked at a lot of aftermarket head units most do not work with steering wheel controls or at best it is limited
Question for you
Do you use an apple plugged into the USB and does the 430 and wheel controls operate the phone in I pod mode or pandora

^I just answered this in the other thread, but yeah...the issue isn't the 130 vs the 430...it is making sure you have the actual Connectivity package up front.

I originally ordered a 130 with my Sahara, but I made sure I had the Connectivity package. That allowed for the additional steering wheel controls, bluetooth, the mic, and the USB port inside the armrest. I then snatched a used 430rbz (non-nav) off of ebay and replaced my 130 with it.

In hindsight, if I were ordering a Sport instead of a Sahara (which automatically comes with Premium sound), I would give strong consideration to only ordering Sirius, and nothing else (no 430, no Connectivity, and no premium audio)...and then use that money on an aftermarket system. It is much easier to upgrade the non-premium sound system. With the premium system, the stupid amp causes all types of issues.

Does yours have a usb port in the center console?

I wish they had the non nav option when I ordered a Rubi last year. But 1500+ was too much fir as little as I would use navigation, so I got the 130.

It does gave a usb port in the center storage compartment though

I had no idea the 430 can come without navigation. You live, you learn.

I have the 430n with the connectivity and the alpine with subwoofer and it is really sweet. I find the sound great and of good quality. It is not amazing and I wish it could be louder. The hard drive is really cool, I have a lot of music on it and pictures. I haven't upgraded the software yet, I'll try to do it next service. I am very pleased and I find it a very good option worth every dollar. I have two USB ports, one on the unit and one in the armrest storage. Also an aux input on the unit.

I do not have a USB at all that's what I was hoping I would get by up grading from the 130 to the 430 as that has a USB on the face plate and yes I did get the premium alpine speaker system I was hoping that the 430 I could connect my iphone to the front USB on the 430 and control my iphone with the steering wheels controls
Thanks
