2014 Rubicon X Broken

Wow!
Only 1500 miles into ownership of my 2014 Rubicon X (Amp'd) and the water pimp started to squeal like a pig in heat.
Doesn't say much for jeep subcontracted parts.
Sure it's covered by warranty but this should not occur!

Sorry, but I could not resist.

I wonder what Freud would say about this?

It is not a known issue and crap happens, there will always be a bad part here or there no matter who makes it. I know it stinks that it happened to you but that does not mean you should slam mopar or the subcontractor.

According to my dealer, this is a known issue with six cylinder wranglers. My service rep said that the dealership he works at has replaced 16 water pumps in the month of January and 19 in February all JK's 5 cylinder 2013 and 2014. A possible recall?

Your dealer is an idiot. All Wranglers in the US since 2007 are 6 cylinders, either the 3.8L V6 (2007-2011) or the Pentastar 3.6L V6 (2012-current)

My dealership also told me if I take my jeep off road I void my warranty because that is not what it is designed for. Dont believe everything your dealership tells you, trust me on that one.

But on a serious note, if it is an issue it is the first one I have heard of.

Who is your dealer? Most dealers down play everything till they get a recall from Chrysler...I am surprised your dealer is saying that. Is there a recall? Did you ask your dealer if there was?

So we have 34 bad water pumps at this one dealer...how many THOUSANDS of Jeeps do they sell each year? And how many other Chrysler products share that motor? and maybe water pump?

Just asking first I had heard about it.............

I had a problem with mine also. My power steering line broke, it was my fault, but they replaced it under warranty. Then the other day at 3 in the morning a huge deer hits the side of my Jeep totaling the flare, damaging the license plate and scratches on both doors. The repair is $2500. What sucks is now there is going to be a car fax.

The numbers 5 and 6 are relatively close to each other on the keyboard... I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt that this was a typo...

same reason as no recall on the heads of 12 early 13 3.6L lol. recalls are safety oriented in nature these will just be fixed as they come in.

yup me too never had any issues with my 13 or 14 but that does not mean sometime down the road I will get the dreaded high pitched squeal from the water pump and when I do I have no worries that it will be taken care of. Come to think of it since the early 70's I have not had many warrant issues. knock on wood.

I would hope so that is only like 8000miles. every year will have issues until the end of time that is why they come with warranties.

^^ Well that's true. I'm keeping mine beyond warranty time if I didn't get any major problems with it.

I figured it was a typing error, I meant that the service manager referring to a problem in the 6 cylinder '13-'14 Wranglers like there is another engine option.

That'd be like him saying there is a problem with the spare tire on the 2014 Wranglers with full size spares. (Hint, they all do)

Wow..so I've got 2,000 km left J/K. Well it makes a huge difference how the dealership handles your problems. Can you please tell me about the symptoms you had in order to change the (I assume) Heater core + radiator. And I hope it will be a quick permanent fix for your Jeep, Good Luck.

Symptoms were what I was reading about in the casting sand/ mixed coolant threads. Lack of any real heat, hotter on the passenger side than drivers, sludge/residue in the rad and coolant bottle. My coolant over flow bottle was also pretty much empty.

As for quick and permanent, it went in this morning so here's to hoping. Good luck with yours as well.

I had the same issue with my 10a at around 18K miles, luckily it was covered under warranty.

Mine doesn't squeal like a "pimp" , but it definitely chirps like a few canaries are under my hood. I'll be having the dealership take a look at it on my next service visit.

I've seen plenty of posts to indicate that it is a common problem, but as listed above, the dealership isn't doing to issue a recall unless it is a safety hazard. Recalls have severe, negative impacts on a manufacturer's bottom line.

** no pimps were harmed in the making of this post **
