I agree, but I have been waiting tooooooo long to wait any longer. The deal breaker for me is that it is for a sport model only AND I'm sure you can't order it with half doors. I love the look of the old Willys Jeeps. My favorite part was the tailgate and logo with 4 Wheel Drive. Looking forward to seeing it though!

I certainly do love special editions but after seeing the mass production of the Freedom Edition, the confusing dragon edition, and the others, it makes me think a Willys special edition will just be a quick knock off to get some sales with no real heart put into it.

I hope they don't use Commando Green. That color is retired.

I don't think Jeep will ever put "commando" green on anything again. I think the dismal reaction to that color killed it pretty quick.

Was commando green really a flop? I love it. It was my top choice for color, followed closely by dune. Commando green is probably my favorite factory color I've ever seen on a Jeep.

He's joking, CG was a hit. Colors are popular belief that colors are based on popularity they are actually based mostly on availability (including price) from suppliers. This is why CG had such a short run. You can expect it will return eventually - unfortunately - based on supply.

Trust me, it pains me as I drive one. I want it to stay rare.

Based on this logic Jeep dropped Flame Red for almost a year due to supplier cost? I doubt it. In favor of a less expensive short lived Rock Lobster? I doubt it even more. Then to return to painting Flame Red 10months later? Did it go on sale again? Did the supplier have extra Rock Lobster on sale? My thought is there is more to it than Dollars and Cents.
I'd like to see a dealer representative or two weigh in on Commando.

I like CG in short burst. It's as potent as Gecko to me. Seems like everyone who has it did a military theme.

we'll see what/if this brings to market.

I guess I'd be more mad if they made this edition a true flat green. I'd love a green with a flat clear coat like my flat black HD.

I'd like that as well. As far as I'm concerned, that's the only way they could have improved commando green.

I seriously hope it has some great attributes to the Willys name and not just stickers!

Doubt it. I liked the 2004 Willy's edition for the camo seats though. Aside from different seat fabric and paint color I was a stickered Willys.

Yeah from a marketing perspective - colors are chosen by what the market is most likely to want / accept. Jeep owners are drawn to unique colors that help them to stand out even more than they do having a jeep anyways, which is why they offer a variety of color options in addition to black, silver, blue and maroon.

But other manufacturers have other types of market segments, like the Honda Pilot for example, it's sold in silver, red, black and navy blue because that's all that type of customer will accept, and a flashy color could be a deal breaker, they don't want to stand out. Sometimes they will do something like bronze or burnt orange - but that's typically the extent of the traditional car market.

Jeep runs short run production colors because we eat them up and love being unique and standing out. A flashy color is unlikely to be a deal breaker at the dealer lot. They can't run the same dozen colors every single year so they pick a variety that will appeal to various personality types and run them for a period of time, and then retire them and replace them with new variants. This is also how they keep a 6 year old vehicle fresh, by releasing new editions and colors, that way they don't actually have to invest anything into changing the platform or technology, which is extremely expensive to get through safety and regulation testing.

Cost of paint may have a little to do with it, but mostly, it's because Jeep owners want to have something unique that looks like no one else's. If they ran Commando Green every year for the last 10 years, it wouldn't be unique and you wouldn't want it

I bet anything that the only reason Jeep created the dragon edition is because some marketing guy at Jeep discovered through research and testing that Jeep doesn't appeal well to the Asian demographic.

(market research is my day job)

yep, this would be my take as well... Always more than meets the eye, except in this case, it's exactly what meets the eye! LOL And yes I had my stickers ordered before I took delivery, and did a military theme with a pineapple grenade for the shifter...lol I love the color, and the two tone black/saddle brown interior as well. It draws attention everywhere I go! Still trying to decide if I want to put a rifle rack on the dash for an ar-15...LOL would be fun for shows, but I would not want to leave my jeep unattended with the ar-15 in it...lol NY liberal gun grabbers are a pain in the balls...

I love my Commando Green, I don't see many around Southern CA; mostly black or white. I saw it on the lot and ran over the same day to trade in my old wore out 02' Liberty for a stock as hell CG JKU Sport; no power anything. (had kids and lost the 99' TJ for the 4 door liberty)

I thought it was stupid to discontinue a great color like that, it seems like there should be an OD green color every year. It is a Jeep after all. But I do like the fact it will be rare, at least for a while. I got the Mopar Maximum Car Warranty so I will be driving it until either me or the wrangler dies. If it dies it only costs a $100 deductible to bring it back to life. I won't be so fortunate.

Posted this in the 2014 info thread to see if Pat would confirm. This is what i found on what the Will's Wheeler is going to be:

Willy's Wheeler: It's a spring release special edition based of a sport model. Old school decals, black rubicon wheels/tires, rubicon suspension and possibly rear locker.

GC did not seem to sell to well in my area, but then again neither did Dune. Almost every lot has 2-3 Dune's sitting there for 5-6 months.

I like the color but again color didnt matter for me. I liked my Flame Red just as well.

Oooooh this is going to be HOT. Half doors?!? Why would anyone buy a Rubi to customize? This is the PERFECT foundation for a rig.

If those pics are accurate the only thing that differentiates it from a Sport with the offroad tire package is a $5.99 sticker. Oh can't forget the black grill or black sahara accents on the bumpers. How original. I guess that matte black color is unique though.

I can't quite tell if you are being satirical or serious. You can order half doors with any Jeep, and the Rubicon has many features that make it different from a sport.

Wow, I like it.

Half doors is risky though. I'd imagine that will be a deal breaker for many people because I think most everyday people (myself) prefer full doors over zipper doors. I wonder if both doors might be included?

Black grill will look great especially on specific colors like copperhead.

I'd love to see interior pics and a rear view pic.
