Lucky you. I wanted the dual top so I had to wait until the system was fixed. Order was placed today for it.

heh, thanks for being a good sport. I did kinda come across as a dick there, now that I re-read that.

I built this chopper a few years ago:

1982 CX500 with an 83 650 motor (673cc, only avail for one year)
Rake job as done at a shop, as was the paint, but all other welding and mods were my own.

Recently I've built this:

It's a 1979 CX500 (same basic bike), but I've gone a COMPLETELY different way with it. Went retro/cafe/adventure. Everything on this bike is custom. The only thing that's left from a 1979 is the frame -- and even that is heavily modified. Dual shocks removed, swingarm from a GL500 mated to a Hayabusa shock and custom linkage mounts. GSXR-750 front forks, dual sport tires, high fender, another 650 motor (I rebuild them), completely custom exhaust (mandrel bent tubing welded together), controls, GL500 gauges lowered with custom brackets for a tighter look, round-slide Mikuni carbs with custom manifolds (the only thing I didn't weld myself, I suck at aluminum), vintage seat on customized mounts, just lots and lots of mods.

I have a 1984 V65 Magna that has a mild cafe job to it.

Roadstar Warrior gas tank, custom rearsets, lowered handlebars, lowered front forks with Progressive springs, rear progressives (front lowered 2" rear lowered 1" for a little quicker steering and more agressive look), 4-int-1 Kerker with a custom can from a Blackbird, Corbin seat, lots of custom chrome work, Accel coils, flyscreen, VTX headlight, shaved rear fender, and 80,000 miles. This is probably the least radical build I've done.

This was created from the neglected hulks of an 89 and 90 EX500 Ninjas:

The bike started off looking like this:

The one in front is the one with the titled (but tweaked) frame, the one in back had the good engine. This was a simple "cut off all the fairing brackets, tuck the battery on its side under the front part of the seat, and all the electronics under the rear part of the seat" job. Cheap and easy and it ran like a beast. Way, way, way lighter than stock. Tank was done in bedliner so I could just strap stuff to it with a cargo net. Was a wicked fun hooligan bike.

I've done a few more customs and a lot more restorations over the years. Buy for nothing, fix and ride for a year or two, and then sell unless I really really like it.

I've kept the V65, the black and gold adventure cafe, and I'm working on another Ninja right now. (it came to me for $300 in running condition, so I decided to do something similar, but decidedly more mad-maxish to it)

Well, that is to say, the ninja isn't the only bike I've got in project stage right now. I've also got my father's GL500 that he bought brand new in 1981, and still has only 6000 miles on it, which I'm restoring piece-by-piece to showroom new condition. I've got a GL1000 sitting in the garage, and another CX500 cafe project in my driveway.

Charles.

I agree, painted fender would get scratched to easily off roading. I actually thought it made them look just like an H3 hummer. Besides, how are you supposed to trim painted fenders and still have them look good?

Thanks for the info pat !!

As for a few of you complaining about the new colors being "skittles" colors... i personally think they needed some bright colors. 2013 models all looked BLAH. crush was nice but couldnt be found when i started looking more then a month ago, true blue was doable but and i almost made a deal on one but it fell through due to the dealership i went to was just trying to get top dollar for it, and commando green was decent but i just couldnt really see myself in that type of green.

my top two picks of colors for the 2014 model when i order is going to be copperhead or hydro blue. amp'd im very ify about and granite looks very nice but i already have a 2012 toyota yaris that is very similar in color so i need something brighter in my fleet of vehicles.

I want to order a 2014 rubicon and I do qualify for the Chrysler Affiliate program. Is my dealer allowed to add any other fees besides the $75 mention in the AR program? I've talked to a salesperson over the phone and am going to meet with the sales manager on Wednesday. I got the impression that they may try and add some crazy fees. I'm just a little confused. Can they add on another $100 documentation feed and a $500 dealer fee??

Black and white can pull it off also, maybe silver. but thats just about it

I believe the only thing they can add is a doc fee.

Ghetto might not be my term, but the Hummer comparison holds up. Only in certain colors (Commando Green, black, white) does it look tolerable to me...otherwise I just can't handle it. The last thing I need is extra pieces on my Jeep to worry about scratching up in the woods

That kind of whiny remark always cracks me up. I guess that I've never seen these magical forest that some worrisome painted-fenderaphobes prance through. Apparently, these woods have special length tree limbs long enough to scratch precious "extra pieces", but are just mere inches short enough to keep from scratching up both whole sides of their rig. Too funny!

It's exciting to get that email but I watched that status in VOTS on mine last year for about 2 months before any status changed.

It's more about tight trails lined w/ trees. My fenders had contact w/ the sides of trees, but not the branches.

Same here. I still have an outstanding 2013 order that has been in "Production Scheduled" for over a month, but has an estimated delivery next week? Hmm...

Any shot at getting a 2014 Rubicon w/LSD differential without going aftermarket?

No.
However the way TCS works basically acts as an electronic LSD. I'm not really sure why they still offer LSD.

Thanks! I've read up on BLD [?] vs. LSD and from what I've gathered LSD works better. Although that can be a hot topic. I can live with it if I can't get LSD in a Rubicon.
