Pat,

Two things, if I may.

First, thanks for being an Oracle of correct information.
Second, I severely regret not buying from you. My sales experience a month ago was terrible.

Thanks again.

I'm concluding that the lady at IAMJEEP must've given me the wrong VIN.... Had to of!
She must have...
11th digit Assembly Plant C = Jefferson North Assembly Plant (Michigan, USA)
Y = Steyr (Graz, Austria)

From a WJ site.

Oh and I do want to correct my statement above. Jeep didn't give me the full vin, but my sales person gave me the full vin that has been assigned to my jeep.

2014 JKUR max tow options ?

Am looking at ordering a 2014 JKUR with the max tow package and automatic trans. I want to get the 4.10 axle but the 3.73 is listed as the axle for the towing package. Can you get the 4.10 on the Rubicon unlimited with the automatic transmission and max towing package ?

Good question. With what I've read here I don't know that you would want the package. Others here have posted the only thing it includes is a hitch and a harness--both available from other sources cheaper than what Jeep charges.

Rubicon comes standard with 3.73 gears. You can upgrade to 4.10 gears without any tow package. The max tow package on rubicons are a rip off and you can get the same hitch and wiring from quadratec for a lot cheaper

vin# has nothing to do with the building sequence.

If all the max tow package offers is a 2" receiver hitch and wiring harness then you are right that it can be gotten elsewhere for less. I didn't know if it offered additional tranny or oil cooling in addition to the hitch and harness.

Thanks for your responses.

On the Sport package the 430 does not have nav. The order code is RBZ.

The other 430 available on Sahara and Rubicon is the 430N code RHB

For those of you who are wondering about build sequence. I worked at a GM plant many, many years ago but I doubt the build process has changed much other than it is sorted out by computer now.

The asembly line moves at a certain constant speed. Everyone on the assembly line has a certain amount of time to complete their task. Lets say it is one minute. Everyone working on the line has a basic task to complete and then optional tasks that they must complete when that option is called for. So if your basic task takes 50 seconds to complete then you have 10 seconds to spare with each basic vehicle. If the option you install takes and extra 40 seconds then you can only do that once every 4 vehicles.

Some options take 5 seconds extra to install some take 15 seconds it varies. Since everyone working on the line takes a different amount of time and after installing their option they are behind then that option cannot show up again for a certain number of vehicles.

Vechicles that are fully loaded with options (Rubicon's) may only be able to be built once every 100 or 200 vehicles. So if they get too many orders the build sequence for (Rubicons) gets very long and someone who comes along and orders a basic Sport with no options gets moved up in the sequence as they can build that one whenever they want as that allows everyone on the line to catch up and get ready for their next option install.

So there is a very complex build sequence and it doesn't matter when you place your order. Your vehicle gets built when the next available slot for a vehicle with those options becomes available. Paint colour doesn't matter, every vehicle coming down the line can be painted a different colour, they just pick up a different paint gun.

They may assign VIN numbers in sequence but build them according to manufacturing slots as they become available.

If they get it wrong and certain options get oversold then the they have to rebalance the line and then you get new people doing tasks they are not familiar with and it can be a nightmare so they may choose to cut off certain vehicle builds as all the available slots to build that type are filled until the next model year and they are not going to rebalance the line to squeeze a few more in.

Does the max tow package give you a higher tow rating on your Jeep? I thought I read this somewhere, but I'm not sure.

Interesting. I knew about specialized tasks and all of that. And the timing of each task. (Family member worked on Caterpillar line for a time). But I never realized how options can impact the line.

Thanks for posting, that's interesting stuff.

Contrary to popular belief, there ARE a few us of us out there that just want the factory Max tow package installed so they don't have to go out later and buy additional parts (albeit cheaper) and have them installed. The cost of mine is now nicely bundled in my monthly payment, and is covered under the warranty. Just sayin'.

Oh wait, nevermind. I guess I won't chime in on this...

From reading his post I couldn't tell if he was more interested in the 4.10 gears or the max tow. I was just making sure he knew his options and wanted to make sure he knew he could get the 4.10's without the max tow. I was merely stating the facts. I wasn't advising him to do it himself (heaven forbid! )

I will make the assumption the 3 of you ordered the max tow package on your rubicons and have your panties in a wad that I would say the max tow package is overpriced on the rubicons. I could careless what you order and pay for. There are some people that like attaching a few bolts and running a few wires and saving a little cash.

BTW and FYI, I am ordering the max tow with 3.73 on my sport so give the x100 a break.

X1 - I agree with myself and could careless what you do or don't think

Relax man. People were simply pointing out that ordering it gets it covered under warranty and for some there's value in that. That's all.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but what does the warranty cover for the tow package?

Assuming we're talking simply about the piece of steel that comprises the bolt on receiver and the small plug & play harness. I'd offer the opinion that there is only a little value in having it covered by your Jeep warranty. The aftermarket harness is likely covered by it's manufacturer's warranty. Additionally, the likelihood of any breakage to the receiver being covered is small anyway, as it's one of those, "you have to be doing something really wrong to break it" parts.

I too am not trying to persuade people to do something they don't want to. Just trying to help people make informed decisions.

I talked to a local dealer yesterday that thought I could order the granite by the first or second week in July. BUT, Pat stated that the new colors are slated for "Fall or late summer". Hmmm....

I appreciate the responses and replys - the reason I was asking about the 4.10 with the Max Tow was because I will be towing some toys behind the JKUR up around the Wolf Creek Pass area and other parts of the continental divide in Colorado. My current 2003 Rubi has the 4.10 axle, 5 spd manual & 33" Nitto Trail Grappler's and does not really pull the inclines by itself that well. I want my '14 Rubi Unlimited w/automatic to be better if possible, certainly not worse. Tire size probably won't exceed 33".
Guess I got spoiled with the CJ5 & CJ7 v8's I had several years ago.
