Lucky for me I want all black... looks like I will be ordering mine this weekend after i test drive a Sahara / Rubicon to see if I have a personal preference.

Good luck! Wish my color was available. I would go with the Rubicon, but that is just my opinion. Get what you like

Your personal preference should be influenced by:
-What you want to use the Jeep for, and what % of time it will be used for "extracurricular" activities.
-What you have your sights set on in terms of upgrades, and how much you want to spend.
-Your patience level, i.e. if you want to build up a Sahara but don't yet have the cashflow to put you on the trails you want to drive
-How in-love you are with the elite squad of Rubicon-badged hoods....that was a joke...

I went Rubi since I am still navigating the aftermarket world of upgrades. I expect to bend, break, twist components in order to fully appreciate 3rd party upgrades.

hehe,

leaning towards the Sahara right off the bat.. I guess I'm more of a mall crawler/luxury rather than an off roader... But for some reason, I've never wanted a car so bad as a wrangler unlimited.

I originally went the route of Sport+Upgrades.

The Rubicon is worth it.

Some people might judge you, but I sure don't. I'll be a one-vehicle guy once my order comes in, so that means the daily commute will cost me about $8 in fuel alone. Weekend warriors FTW!

I am going to be ordering a 2014 Rubicon and had a few questions that maybe someone could help out with. I have actually never owned a Jeep.

-Can you order from an out of town dealer and have it drop shipped to your local dealer?
-Do all the Rubicons come with the BFG tires or is there an option?
-Can I order the black wheels that come on the 10A?

Put in the order for the brochure and seeing if I luck out as well.

Thanks

You can possibly PURCHASE the 10A rims but you won't be able to order it with those on. It'd be a dealer install.

Rubicons come with just the BFG KMs. Again, you could have the dealer install something else.

Likely not on question #1. The drop-off dealer won't want to deal with the work involved for free.

I received the 2013 brochure (expected it), but no coupon. Honestly, they can wait on the coupon just a bit longer. I'm waiting for more info on the X

Or they are pissed at me since the last time I bought a Jeep was in 2001...

Timing on 2014 Rubicon X or special colors orders?

Does anyone know when dealers will be able to order the 2014 Rubicon X or some of the new colors (Amp'd) for the 2014 Rubicon?

Thanks

So still waiting on the Granite color to be available. But I'm looking for advice on the purchasing process for the 2014 JKU.

I have access to the Chrysler Affiliate Rewards Program (1% below invoice) through work; however I am looking to aim for 2% - 4%. Not sure if possible but it doesn't hurt to try.

Anyway, what is the best way to go about getting the best deal. Any steps recommended?

Should I email and call all dealers within XX mile radius with a complete build list and just say "what is the best deal you can give me?" and go from there? Would you include the build with invoice amount? Just not sure what has worked for everyone in the past.

Also, do you think it is worth working on it now and letting the dealers know that I will buy from them for set price the day the color becomes available (sale order)? or should I wait?

Any help greatly appreciated.

What till it counts for their numbers but get your ducks in a row with finance. I walked in with a check and stated this is what I had and rolled out with my baby. I emailed 8 dealers within 300 miles told them what I wanted and what I was willing to pay. 3 dealers were willing to get the price I wanted the other 5 walked because they either didn't have what I wanted or the price wasn't in there sweet zone. I had a Jeep RL ordered they lost it so then it left me with a white and black one took the black drove it to slugish took it back and ended up with the Gimpster.

I think we will have more info in the next week or so. I think I saw something showing some updated code guides, so I am guessing they will be released sooner than later.

I was getting really close to just ordering a '14 and upgrading the bumbers, hood, and wheels, but if next week holds updates on new packages i guess i can hold off a bit longer for the X.... Oh the insanity!

btw if i were to just order upgrade what would i do with the stock wheels, bumpers, and hood? Are they worth anything? I'm also curious what the installation costs would be if any one has the insight.

Everything Is worth something, you just have to be willing to find a buyer and/or ship. A set of Wheels and tires sell on CL for anywhere from $300-1200, depending on your location and the trim level you ordered. A hood will sell for a few hundred, bumpers $50-200.

If you own a decent set of wrenches and sockets, most of the labor could cost as little as time, sweat and blood (I can't open my toolbox without busting a knuckle). Honestly, if you can put together a chair from IKEA, you can do most of the bolt-on labor required to mod a Jeep. Sometimes you need extra hands and experience, but those will typically flock when you utter 3 words: Beer & Pizza.

Cool deal. Haha true installing all of those upgrades I think would be better served if I just do them myself with some friends. That savings plus the money I might be able to get for the stock parts I might come out to about the price of an x package rubicon. I'll give the X package maybe another 2 weeks to show up before I pull the trigger.

If I could get a Sahara with the Rubicon transfer case the decision would be a lot easier for me.

About to pull the trigger, couple of last-minute questions

</lurk>

Was up until 3am this morning reading every post in this thread (except the silly ones about 10A elitism):

Pat and Milous, you are The Men. I wish I lived closer to either of your dealerships, Pat!

I'm going to attempt to order a 2014 JKUR from Westgate in Raleigh today:
  • Connectivity - must have.
  • Premium Soft Top - on the fence about this. I have no problems with my current, "not-premium" soft top; is it worth the extra $$$? If I can see one on the lot today, that should decide it for me.
  • Max Tow - was going to do this, but after educating myself in this thread, I concur it is a rip-off if it's only a hitch, a cable and some labor (and not enhanced cooling/braking). Is it only a hitch, a cable and some labor? If yes, hello Quadratec!
  • Wheels - would prefer the black Rubi wheels instead of the stock mineral grays. Any chance of this on either the order or as a dealer-installed swap?
  • Mats - if I can get the Mopar Slush mats thrown in, fine. Otherwise, hello Quadratec again!

The kid in me wants Copperhead; the rest of me says Billet. The Granite Crystal is nice, but with a black top, fenders, tires and (possibly) wheels... Not seeing it. None of the other colors appeal to me.

Peace!

Caution on the floor mats. I am holding out until the 3rd party mat manufacturers clearly state compatibility with 2014 models. I don't want to buy 2013 mats and then cut a hole to accommodate the extra floor retainer hook. Rear mats should be fine. Mopar slush mats order with your build would probably be the quickest...depending.

My salesman tried to convince me that the wiring configuration for the stock max tow was not piggybacked on the driver side tail light. "This one is wired right in to the controls." But then when I asked him what specifically a 4-pin connector allowed a trailer to do, he said its just for brake lights and turn signals. Soooooo yeah. Don't buy the BS. It's just a brake light controller, and I'm 99.9% certain it piggybacks on the tail light in the exact same way. I took some photos of the 2013 hitch.

Now hurry up and place your order so you can join us in the "2014 JK Order Waiting Room."

Has any one ever checked the tag on the rear springs to compare no hitch vs max tow package on JK, JKU, and on the Rubicon versions of each.

Mikebot and wilco - as I understand it (and I am by NO MEANS a mechanic nor technician), but it seems the only people calling the MAX TOW a rip off is on the Rubis. The MAX TOW on the Sports/S has the gearing and reciver hitch and wiring where as on the Rubis, it only gives you the reciever hitch and wiring harness as the Rubis already have the lower gearign onthem. Again, I am NOT an expert, just the points I had picked out from other's posts.

Westgate is having problems with their ordering system, so no order today. If you're headed there, call ahead (if you learn "everything is fine, come on out!", let me know). For me at least, the plan now is to try again Monday evening. BTW, any orders placed (with Westgate) between now and this Wednesday will be transmitted Wednesday.

Still on the fence with the Premium Soft Top. It's definitely a different material, and has a different nap/texture than the "stock" soft top. The salesperson I spoke with (John) said all that was needed was a soft bristle and mild soap (or a powerwasher) to maintain it. It did look good against the Billet and black fenders. May just flip a quarter.

Still no clear outcome on exactly what the Max Tow option affords apart from a hitch and a cable. The salesperson is checking on whether load balancing is added to the rear with this option. Thanks to this thread, I said I thought sway dampening was standard, that 4.1 was standard on the Rubi, etc. He said this wasn't sway dampening or 4.1, and believes there's something additional and would check before Monday. Pat or Milous, is there anything you can clarify/add around the details for the Max Tow option on a JKUR?

Per Westgate, can't order black Rubi wheels for a Rubi at this time. Once the new model year starts, maybe (maybe) there'll be an opportunity to do a swap. Not that big a deal, regardless.

Here's to Monday!

Peace!
