As if there weren't enough heated debates amongst the purists, I can see another one developing here: "The virtues of mirror vs head unit backup camera displays".
Didn't that legislation get delayed? It is silly that the wrangler does not come with a back up camera option. The computer is ready for it if you have one of the touch screen options. They could at least make wrangler specific kit. Losing out on easy money.
Really, a back up camera will determine your purchase. Holy crap. Why, Why, Why, who cares either way. If you are forced to have one and dont want it, dont look at it. If its in the mirror disconnect it. Its in the radio, cover it with a towel. Holy Crap al mighty Baby Jesus you folks drive me crazy.
At least the thread wasn't about how to lift a 2015 that you haven't bought yet and will only buy it if it comes out in Aqua Marine with a splash of Pink.
Actually yes, it is part of the decision to order now or wait 5 months. If I have to wait if it will be included, then I will. And how insightful that color is also part of the decision, aqua marine might be nice. Not so sure about the pink though.
The 430 and the 720 stereo/Nav units are capable of a rear camera. It's the same units they put in other Chryslers (like the Cherokee). Your dealer could probably install one for you. One dealer reported on here somewhere that they offer it as a $90 or $180 option. You could also do it yourself, but the dealer has to activate something in your head unit. You could also go the Mygig/ lockpick route and even have front, rear, l & r turn signal and backseat cameras if you want! Or you can do what I intend to do and replace the whole audio system with aftermarket and front/rear cams. One guy on here has a system with 11 cameras, 3 monitors and two DVRs!
By the way... I personally don't think they will be standard in 2015, maybe as an option. There is no law, and even if one was passed in the next session, there would likely be a comply by date for manufacturers that would be a few years out to allow them time to retool, develop tech, secure suppliers, train workers, reprogram robots, etc....

To be clear, you said the 430 is capable of a camera. Does that 430 have to be a nav unit?
I will be ordering a sport s. It is frustrating how some of these options are made unavailable. Can't get nav in an S? Why? Can't get side airbags in a base sport or a Willy's. Why? Can' get remote start in a sport. Why? There just doesn't seem to be a correlation to the model and some of the options. And why is factory nav so darn expensive? Oh we'll . . .
I appreciate your response, thank you for your time.
Just a thought on wanting the see what you tow; with the lockpick option you can view the rear camera while driving forward in addition to when backing. Camera comes on automatically when the vehicle is placed in reverse. Or you can manually access it via a tv feature while in any gear. And even add extra cameras for different views of the trailer if you'd wish.
I just bought a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sahara and the rear camera display isn't even an option! And this vehicle needs cameras to avoid accidents. If anyone has any different information indicating that it is offered, please let us know.

We live in a World where it has Never been easier to Solve our Own Problems with NO need for Big Brother, the Govt, the NannyState, Mom, the Neighbor OR anyone other than ourselves to get what we want or think we need.
Maybe IF we would ALL embrace that belief we could Finally be unburdened by the weight of over regulation/protection and legislation by our bloated BloatHeads in Washington.
IF I want a Back-Up Camera - I'll go buy a Back-Up Camera. I don't want to be told I have to have one because some friggin soccer Mom runs over little Johnnie Dumbass who's to fat or dumb (or both) to get out of the way while Mom is texting her hens while backing up.

With that being said, you can do a DIY for a fraction of the cost. The cheapest solution is roughly $250 plus whatever the dealer charges you to turn the feature on in the Navigation.
Roger that. I happen to Love gadgets (back-up cameras included) when I swap out my HU someday, I will BUY a BU camera capable unit just because.
Only time I ever had an accident (backing up my Chevy Suburban) was because I had grown lazy and dependent on the BU camera which did NOT show the pole behind me due to low light.
Who did I blame? Who did I get out and spend ten minutes spinning like a whirly-bird attempting to kick in the Ass - ME.
Wasn't the vehicles fault, Or the cameras design, Or the guy with the dark pole in front of the dark garages fault - it was my Fault.
My responsibility, thank God it only cost me $10,000 to fix and my dumb ass didn't hurt anyone.
The cameras don't take the place of turning ones head and "looking" and certainly IF they ever become mandated that will help assure - Nothing.
Mistakes will still happen and Stupid will never be able to be fixed.
well I can understand why someone would want a backup camera. My wife had one in her car, and every time I got in the Jeep it just felt missing. So I went the route of adding a 430 Nav (yes the non-nav works there is a great thread on here about it) I bought off of ebay for $800. Non nav 430s were going for about $300-$400. Thats the expensive part. I let my local Jeep dealer flash the Jeep for the programming ($100), added a cable ($25) and a flush mount cam ($15). Because I didnt like my early low camera placement (I can be picky with things) I bought the extreme terrain camera mount ($59.99).
It can be done cheaper - there are complete packages available like from Extreme Terrain with their Raxiom. It can be with a "better" aftermarket head unit. Most Radio shops can do the whole thing for you but its $$$$.
I like factory radios they tend to hold up the best over the long haul- just less flashy.

How well did that camera fit with the camera mount. Just had ours unlocked last weekend and ordered the exact same camera. Based on the reviews from this board we decided not to mount in the bumper under the spare tire.
If the camera will fit the mount well then I'll order the mount if not may just fab one up.
KC Hawker - many of the Chrysler vehicles with the 430 without Nav have backup cameras. The 2008 T&C I traded in on my JKU had the backup camera from the factory.
I didnt mean to say the non- nav models do not work - I thought I said they do. I wanted the nav since I was upgrading anyway.
Not sure if you were referencing the camera also. I didnt want to pay a few hundred for the factory cam (I had seen the threads on here for the Grand Cherokee camera) which still needs the flash. the cheap cable I linked plus the cheapy camera are under $40 that does the same thing as the factory GC camera for close to $200.
I used the big Garmin GPS with wireless backup camera. I mounted the gps in the dash tray with the rugged ridge ball mount. It worked well and I had voice activated navigation.
Whatever you do, avoid the Raxiom backup camera with reverse mirror display! The way it wires in requires wire cutting which caused my satellite radio to stop working and cost $240 to fix!
It looks like you do have to tap into a hot, ground and reverse trigger for that camera/mirror set up, but as long as that is all you cut and solder you won't have any issues with any other of your Jeeps electrical components.
I'm sorry you had trouble with yours! If you PM me I'd be happy to refund part of your purchase price to help cover the cost of the repairs.
That camera fit perfectly into the Raxiom mount. I love the Raxiom mount and it has done all it needs to do, but there is only one drawback I wish could be improved upon. I wish the mount would fit the bolt pattern as opposed to just having opening that you could use to slide the mount behind the tire - It makes it much harder to install the mount alone if you completely remove the tire. I assume it is easier to install if you just loosen the tire and slide it on, but with my tires, their width and offset, made this difficult. I would still recommend it though, for the price, or if you cant fab you own, its great.
We have been reviewing cameras and mounting options for the new Black Bear. Had the 430N unlocked past weekend and now looking at camera options and mounting locations.
Check out the videos in this playlist hope they help. Tomorrow we plan to look at what we want to do for mounting. Once we figure that out Ill upload another video to this same playlist in hopes that it helps others. Let me know if I can help. Im no pro but will to try it out
