I have a 2 door JK with stock audio. My under floor area has a storage compartment where others would have the Alpine subwoofer. Is there any after market subwoofer that could be placed there? Or even an OEM Alpine to throw in there? Thanks!
I have done a lot of research and the Alpine sub that comes with the premium system isn't a good choice unless you have the premium system. Most people agree it's a 4 channel sub which isn't ideal. You'll need at least a 2/4 channel amp to power it, depending on how you wire it. Plus it now takes up what little cargo space you have.
I was thinking about getting one of these but I would prefer a 10" sub and more power. I know some people have put it under the front passenger seat and liked the way it sounds. Even though bass is omni-directional I'm not sure how it would sound in the back.

One thing to keep in mind though is that oem subwoofer IS all weather. So while I'm guessing you'll end up going with something non-oem, might still want to keep that in mind.
I just installed this one. Love it. Almost too much boom lol. I have the gain turned all the way down. I'm thrilled with the results. Under the passenger seat. Needed to trim a bar under there which has no bearing on the seat whatsoever. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-HPPWuGKaHTm/p_777B8PTD/Sound-Ordnance-B-8PTD.html

That's the Crutchfield private label amp/sub. It is top quality and I'm blown away by how it sounds. Added it to my factory 130 radio and the only other thing i did was change out the 4 6.5" to the kicker upgraded ones. I spent little over $300 and it sounds like a 2k system. Blows the doors off the premium Alpine. You won't be able to turn the volume to 1/2 and there is no distortion. Shakes and rattles the Jeep.
As a side note I'll be getting a small 4 Chanel Alpine amp for the 6.5's so they can keep up better with the sub. For now I couldn't be happier for a little over $300
I'll snap some pictures of mine during the day tomorrow and show you. Only had to trim a piece one under seat and that's it. I ran the wires that you see under there on top of the unit. It's fine. It's totally concealed and access to any of the adjustments you need. The piece I trimmed has zero consequence on any of the seat structure or functionality. I'll see now if I can get a clear picture of it.
Here's the best I can get from looking from in front of the seat. It's obviously tight back there. Seat totally clears the unit and it sounds just incredible. Exceeded my expectations. That wire harness just sits on top of unit. It's the jeeps harness totally undisturbed. It's tight but it works perfectly. Well worth it.

Yes it's bolted to floor with 2 contact points. The front ones I could easy get to. It's a tight fit but just perfect really. It'll shake the jeep if you listen to hip hop or it'll make some mods and the lows bellow on every song. Depends how you set the frequency on the gain control. I really am thrilled with this set up. My good friend has the expensive alpine set up in her 15 and this is crisper, cleaner and louder. Better in every regard. Best of which it takes up no precious space whatsoever.
5X the price and I'd bet this sounds as good. I don't see another unit or design on the market sounding better than this, especially for the size and price. Good luck with your choice!
I've always had good experiences with jl audio products. I would recommend them if u can afford it. I believe when it comes to audio u get what u pay for but i'm no expert by any means.
Most amplifiers have high level inputs, where you would just tap into your existing speaker wires for the signal. Otherwise, you'll need a line-out converter (LOC) to convert your speaker wires into an RCA signal.
Does this require cutting wires from the original harness? I'd like to install a powered sub but do not want to chop up the original wire harness. Any way to install one without doing that?
What's the best option for the 6.5" speakers? I'm also looking to upgrade to a powered sub and if not too difficult, change out the factory speakers. I'm trying to stay away from changing the head unit and don really want to have to add an amp either.
Finished the first expensive mod on my 2015 WW. THE AUDIO SYSTEM. I did not get the premium Alpine system with mine and I was not satisfied with the base audio. I looked around for plug n play options, but not much is available for the 2015 system. I have the 730 HU and have been satisfied with its features, but the volume was really poor so I added a little audio Viagra.
Speakers : Focal 165as component speakers in the front and in the speaker bar. After comparing many, these had the best sound.
Audio line converter: Audio Control LC7i. Six channel.
Amp: Alpine MRV-F300. Class D. 50 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms. Clean sound top to bottom
Sub: Kicker 8" Hideaway 150W powered sub woofer
This baby rocks! I have a bestop trunk in my 2dr so I mounted the amp and sub there to reduce theft risk. The audio control unit in under the dash
On the Sound Ordnance powered sub- the one I have there are 4 adjustments on the unit- such as phase, frequency, and couple more slipping my brain right now and most importantly there is a small knob on my dash to the right of the steering wheel that adjusts the bass. I have it turned up maybe 1/4. All ya need. You can also throw the small knob in your center of you don't want to flush mount drill it in. The button is the size of a nickel maybe. This thing generates so much crystal clear low frequency and I'm amazed every time i ride. Anyone wanting to vastly improve the sound of your base unit- for $150 ( what I paid on sale at crutchfield) this plus the 4 kicker upgrade 6.5's this sounds and blows away the '15 premium sound by a mile. An important note is that I listen to pandora and spotify. On the Sirius it sounds waaay better then it did but Sirius has poor bit rate. Cd's also sound phenomenal. And fm too.
What did you set your gain, phase, frequency etc at to achieve the best sound. I have the same radio and speaker set up and am looking for some guidance as a starting point. Doing the install this weekend.
Assuming all the settings stayed less that straight up 12 o'clock: It looks line...
Level: 10 o'clock-ish
Bass Eq: 8 o'clock-ish
Frequency: 90hz- ish
Phase: 0 degrees
Sound about right?
Thanks for the pics.
Did you just drill a small hole in the dash to mount the knob?
I think I'm going to mount it near the e-brake handle.
Yea exactly. This is what works for me and my music mainly pandora, spotify, Apple etc...as mentioned Sirius sounds more subdued and that's on any system I've ever heard.
Did you use a line out converter? I read and was told by crutchfield that the amp volume knob only works if using the rca inputs. So I assume you did use a LOC. How did you set the gains on the LOC (seething you used)... Assuming yours has gain controls for each channel.
Sorry for all the questions but why reinvent the wheel is my thought.
Thanks
