New jeep owner, noticing a lot of hesitant / non-wavers out there. I was wondering if that was because I have a 4D? Or Sahara? Or no mods (yet, there will be)?
The real reason is that Jeep has been selling close to 200,000 Wranglers/year and most new owners know nothing about the wave.
Driving a Wrangler used to be so rare that owners would wave at each other. There are so many JKs in circulation now that it isn't special anymore seeing another one drive by.
Don't let that stop you from enjoying your Sahara!

Don't sweat it too much, I wave to everyone no matter what even if they ignore me. Also I see Wrangler's and I make it a point to tell every person I sell one to about the Jeep wave.
One more thing: the passes to go on LI beaches go back on sale Tuesday, only good until end of year, but worth getting to learn how to drive on loose sand. Google it, only 65 bucks and you'll never go to (as my gf calls it) the "people beach" ever again.....truck beach only!
Congrats on the Sahara, they are so nice driving machines. I've had my 2 door Sahara Tank for 3 weeks now(love it:iamhappy. I found for the first few days I didn't really see that many wranglers. My first wave came from a bone stock black 4 door, from a woman whom one might characterize as a "soccer mom"......whether she was or not who knows....but she smiled and waved, and I in turn did same....I thought "cool"!!! Then one day,a beautiful sunny day,all the Jeeps came out of the woodwork......and it was a veritable festival of waving,I mean everyone was waving, heavily modified, stock,TJ's,YJ's,JK's both 2 and 4 door.....I had to watch my driving, there was so much wave action...thought I'd get repetitive strain injury on my three fingers, top steering wheel hand . Then another day not so many Jeeps or wavers....so I guess it comes in "waves"...pardon the pun.
Ah, interesting. Do you have similar sized wheels on your current Jeep?
Reason I ask is because I am curious about how much of a benefit larger wheels are to actual off road wheeling. I have 18 inchers on the Sahara I am getting soon and am curious about whether going to smaller wheels when it comes time to buy other tires to replace the stockers is recommended from a performance standpoint offroad. Yes, I know 16 and 17 inch tires are cheaper, but that's not what I am focusing on. I am focusing on actual performance off road.
So why did you go with even larger 20 inch wheels for your '09?
:welcome:
Every time I see a Jeep I wave and the Dog barks ( well Most of the time ). Its a fun thing to let other Jeep owners know that you like Jeeps. Congrats on your new Jeep.
:awesome:
