I like the bootbars from grabars too. I like them because you can set your foot on them a couple of different ways and even stretch out and set your calf on it. To me this variety makes it more comfortable on longer trips.
It does seem odd but once you do it it is very natural and comfortable. You don't really *need* the footpegs either. The first time I drove a jk with the doors off I found resting my foot on the hinge to the most comfortable place. Even more so on a manual because there is not enough room next to the clutch for a dead pedal. With the doors off that problem is solved.
I bought a Jeep just a short time ago and I have since learned, I will never have money again.. (Just Empty Every Pocket, right??)
so here is my simple solution for doors off pegs. 3" 14mm nut and bolt just a bit smaller diameter than the hinge hole, a few washers and a simple aluminum bracket. The beauty of this get up is that my foot sits directly centered and snug, so no slipping. Cheap Mod I know. Total Cost.... $0.00, all extra stuff laying around the garage.
when i open the door, it gives me a "door open" alarm on the dash.
Does that ever go away with the doors off, or is there something you do that kills that or just ignore it.
well okay, one more stupid question
main reason I have not taken the doors off nor the top is I have absolutely zero leaks right now and am paranoid that once I start messing with this stuff it will start leaking.
A. It will start leaking eventually...cuz Jeep :beerdrinking:
B. The doors don't register when they are unplugged.
C. Removing the doors, in my experience, is the least likely activity to start leaks. If they don't leak, then generally unless the foam gasket tape is messed up, they won't start. Removing the frames often can up the chance slightly of leaks, but just tighten (not too much) the handle bolts and keep an eye out how you place the frames back into their spaces. But (See A.)
I have an old set of motorcycle foot pegs I've been wanting to try and use on the Jeep. They would fold up vertical if you wanted them too. I need to start working on this...
Motorcycle pegs would be perfect in terms of size, grip surface, etc...I like a flater sport bike peg more than a cylinderical one, but those would probably have to be twisted or somehow angled toward the driver. Im curious to see what you come up with!
