Hey guys looking at putting a Teraflex 2.5 inch coil lift on later this summer and looking at tires. Pretty much narrowed down to goodyear duratracs or kelly safari tsr's just don't know what size to go with. Goign on a JKU and is a DD. will the 285's look too small? also I'm a college student so that goes into the decision as well. Head says to go with the "33's" but love the look of the 315's. Any input would be nice. Thanks

it's an auto so I have 3.73 gearing. The two thing im wondering how much will that little more than an inch of the 315 (12.7 vs 11.5 width) hurt mpg around town? and would a 33 look too small with a 2.5 inch lift? it's only 1.4 inches taller and weight is 6-8 lbs heavier as well

I lost maybe 1 mpg switching from 285/70/17 Duratracs to the same in the 315 size. On paper it doesn't seem like much of a diffrence between the sizes but in reality there is a pretty big diffrence.

I think 33's look good with some 2.5 lifts but mine with the Rock Krawler Max Travel looked out of place but luckily I already had my 315's ordered so I only drove around that way a few days.

Skip the 2.5" lift & 315s and go straight to 3.5" & 37s!

I'm in the same boat, trying to decide between the 285s and 315s, but does anyone have any comment on whether either of those will fit the stock spare carrier, or will they both require a modification for that? That might affect the OP's choice since cost seems to be a factor.

The 285's will fit the spare tire carrier. The 315's will not fit without extending it.. I recently had to add an extender to the carrier to fit my 35's on the carrier. The extender for the carrier runs around $40

I ordered the 35MTR's w/Kevlar for my 3.25 lift, i wanted to have some room without ripping off my fenders. I seen folks run 35's with no lift at all but I wouldn't do such if I was actually going balls out.

I went with 315/70/R17's, because I got more than 2.5" of lift on my 2-door.
I ended up with 3 inches of actual lift (measured with the stock tires) from the AEV 2.5" lift. My tires are being mounted/balanced today. I installed the lift first, before I made a final decision on tires.
Plus, I wanted to drive it first with the stock tires to see how much the lift actually improved my ride/handling. I'm going to install my new wheels/tires this weekend and see how they look/feel.

With daily life weighed in, the 285's will weigh less and affect mpg less. I'm very happy with the price/weight/mpg considerations of my 285/70/17 tires and if I lift the jeep i will still continue to get this size.

I have a teraflex leveling kit and the 19/58 springs and am running 285/70/17. I debated going to 34's or even trying to stuff 35's on there and am glad I didn't. I imagine the 35's will look better with the 2.5" lift. I can't comment on drivability for you though since your engine is newer and you have an auto...

I just installed a 2.5" lift and 315/70/17 duratracs this week on my 2012. The tires measure out to about 33.75" when on the Jeep and mounted on a 9" wide rim. Im real happy with the look and am glad I went with the 315. This jeep is my daily driver as well, has the 3.73 gears and seems to have no problems moving them.

Went with the 315 75 17 GY Duratracs and Level 8 zx wheels. Will have those mounted Tuesday and the RK 2.5" base lift on by april 4. Can't wait to see how thing look but now still trying to figure out the winch and bumper set up. A friend of mine is running his 315 70 17 procomp spare on his 2008 stock tail gate carrier with no problem so far for those who were wondering
