285 75 16 tires on stock tire carrier

I am putting a budget lift and a set of 285's on next week, and was wandering if I REALLY needed to buy a spare tire spacer for the tail gate, I know they make them, but I don't really want to buy one unless I absolutely have to.

265/75/16 sets are pretty close to the tail light, not sure if yours are going to work with it. One way to find out!

You won't need a spacer, had 315/70r 17 on the stock carrier for a long time before we got the expedition one bumper carrier.

Really depends on which rim you're using and it's Backspace
Mine is ProComp-16x8" with 4.5" backspace and BIG, 33" Hankook--No spacer

They are the 16x7 two tone jeep wheels from mopar (Black and machined aluminum), I have 265 70 16's on it right now and as far as width goes, there is still room before I get to the tail light (Laterally and vertically)

I needed a pair of Daystar tailgate bumpstops for my 285/75-16s on 16x8 wheels with 4.5" backspacing.
Any slop at all and you'll ruin your tailgate eventually.

You can fab a spacer if you want though. But the Daystar product isn't that expensive and works great.
