i have a 2016 willys wheeler and the only thing I've never cared for where the tires.im looking into either 255-80 17 or 285-75-17 (i wanna keep my stock rims)leaning towards 285-75-17 tires because I've got 3.73 gears and the 34" height would help keep the rpms down while on the hi way.any input on this would be a big help thanks
I have Nitto Trail Grapplers in 285/75/15 on a 2.5" lift. With steel bumpers.
My mileage after adjusting with the AEV ProCal is about 16 around town and a bit better on the highway. I drive like an old person
I'm running 285/75/17 Ridge Grapplers on stock rims with 1.25" Teraflex spacers. I just added a 2.5" Metalcloak lift last weekend. I also have 3.73 gears. I'm getting around 15.5-16 mpg right now. I love these tires! They have good height (33.25" mounted) and are super quiet. If you don't have a lift or don't plan to get one, I wouldn't get off the street much with those tires. They fill the wheel wells up and would rub like crazy off road.
I have the same set up on a 2015 Willys 2dr but with the mopar lift and corrected with a Procal. My highway milage now is a equal or little better maybe due to less rolling resistance of the Nittos over the OEM MTs. Usually coming in around 18.8 over the old 18.0. My in-town milage dropped to 15-16 from around 17.0. I think this is due to having to mash the accelerator more to get it going due to the extra weight of the spacers and tires and bigger diameter. my overall MPG is down about 0.5 to 1.0 MPG.
I've had BFG KM2s in 285/75 on OEM wheels, with 2.5" lift since August 2015, on a 2-door Willys with 6M and 4.56 gears. My display was reset when I added the tires and not since. It shows 13.1 mpg over 9000 miles.
To be fair, for the previous 11,000 miles on stock wheels and tires and 3.73 gears the computer was reading 14.1. So the change (tires and shorter gears) doesn't seem to have been very costly. I do mostly city driving and I'm hard on the gas when accelerating. But 1900 of the 9000 was a leisurely drive from ATL to Utah, and I drive slowly on the interstate or country roads. Going over 65 in the soft top Wrangler is just unenjoyable to me.
I have 285/75/17 Toyo ATIIs on stock rims, '14 JKU auto with 3.73s, I get around 17 around town and 21 on the highway. I have a Flashcal set to 33" tall tires.
I'd love to know how this is possible. I have the same transmission, gear ratio and tire size. I used the AEV Procal with a tire size of 33.25 (measured on the vehicle) and my around town mileage is 15-15.5.
I have 285x75x18s on fuel rims, a winch up front, and about 250# of gear in the back, with 4.10s with my '15 JKU-HR 4-door. During the winter, in town/highway, I average about 12.5 - 12.8 mpg. During the warmer months, I may get 13.5.
