2Dr Jk for a 4Dr, time to upgrade~

Well, I first wanted a 4dr but decided upon a 2dr option instead. Since I was single, no kids, etc I didn’t' see or feel the need for a 4dr but times have changed. Now I am married, no kids "YET" thankfully, lol. But the wifey wants to have a family, hopefully not anytime soon. I am also thinking about also letting go of my convertible German sports car, which I don't even use in the winter and I keep it in storage. 3 cars in the house and a Harley, it's time to downsize a bit, even though I have the room in the garage for 4+cars, I would like to have the extra space. So for those who had the 2dr JK and upgraded to the 4dr, any regrets???

Sucks that I modded my Jeep and dumped quite a bit of money on her but OH WELL, more reasons to get another Jeep :happyyes:

I have a 13yr old and 4yr old in a car seat. 2door has been fine. No issues. Kids love it. I have no problem slinging my lil guy into the back car seat from standing out side through the passenger side. Been doing it for almost 2years with no regrets because soon enough he will be climbing in by himself(he jumps out now, no problem :p) and the oldest will have his own car(already at that uncool to be with dad stage) and I will still have my beloved 2dr. :p.

If your going to ditch the German sports car, keep the 2dr and by a more practical "family size" vehicle and still have the Harley for speed and adrenaline :).

2013, yes I can swap everything out but I'm not sure if I can do that once I decide to sell it or trade it in... It's more practical for me to trade it in, tax reasons. I maybe trading 2 cars for the 4dr Jeep. Now, wondering if I should go completely new or pre owned like 2014/15...? Still are a bit pricey, cheapest one found locally 31k~ Others, 36, 38k~

I traded in my 13 JK Sahara for a 15 JKUR and I have Zero regrets. I have a 4 year old and a 9 year old and the 2 door was way too small. You will hear a lot of people say the 2 door is big enough, add a couple of kids and there isn't room for anything else. Get the JKU. You won't regret it.

It's not an upgrade. It's just a question of what works for you.

Personally, I don't like the 4 doors. Other people like them. To each their own

For my needs, it was a 2dr or no door.

2 door is more in line with traditional purpose built Jeep.

4 door is a fairly useable daily SUV with definite jeep qualities. It really is the modern day XJ.

The 4 door back seat works and with rear door access should be good for car seats and kids. It's just OK for adults and bigger kids, but your jeep would be over 10 years old before it affects your kids.

Very true, but I'll add.....the benefit of the 4 door isn't really about the extra people alone....it is the extra people and "stuff".

But if I were the OP, I would probably keep the 2 door, trade in the sports car, and look for a nice SUV (like a Grand Cherokee) that can haul kids and stuff (and actually tow while also being a good winter vehicle).

This is one of the points that's been hampering my decision.
I don't want to flip the 2 door that I'm almost set on getting.

I don't want to flip the doggone thing, like if I go to Moab to do some rock-climbing. And here comes a JKU, fully loaded with family and things, and they zoom right up Hell's Gate. And I'll be too scared to climb with my 2 door, and a 6 spd.

Hmmmmm, I'm merely asking a question somehow my original statement was taken out of context, hearing such comments such as "stigma, mall vehicle, trade, get an suv instead, etc" Look guys its all about personal taste and "NEEDS" Yes" the 2Dr is more "traditional" etc etc but Chrysler went with the 4dr for a reason and fortunately enough they have been very successful at it. The brand "Jeep" has done very well this year, they have sold more Jeeps than any other previous years because people are realizing the need for a well built vehicle, with "SPACE" 4X4, trail rated, a Jeep that you can heavily customize, etc. In fact, Jeeps is the most heavily customized vehicle in existence to date!!!

I have no problem with the 2Dr, in fact you don't see many 2Dr JK's around, you do however, see the older 2Dr Jeeps. However, I am trying to make a wise decision that's why I came to this forum to merely ask a question for those who had a 2dr Jeep and decided to go with a 4dr, etc. That's it! Now can we concentrate and not get sidetracked with bs and un-needed drama?

God Bless, Ya. On this Forum? Not a Chance :)

As for my contribution.... Congrats on whatever you decide and Swap Everything! Unless you decide to sell it and it's understood the price reflects stuff staying.
Oh, and Avoid threads that pit 2dr against 4dr and the Ebola virus.
Peace.

Sorry for the derail. Back to your question, I went from a 2 door to a 4 door. What I miss most is how nimble it feels compared to the 4 door, and the breakover. Besides that, no regrets. The extra space and wheelbase have made it more than worth it for me as a backcountry capable family hauler. I now have two 4 doors, one built and one stock that my wife drives.

When considering 2 v 4 just think how much crap they all want to take if you drive it on vacation. Your choice to make everyone pack light or have the ability haul 4 beach chairs, assorted beach toys, cooler, fishing gear, 3 girls luggage for a week, and of course you have to have recovery equipment for the off road adventures....dam, should've bought a two door...I get tired just thinking about packing the Jeep.

VACATION! With Chevy Chase.
Hilarious movie.
Especially when the daughter notices that her grandma she's been riding with has passed away.

So, she starts freaking out: "Ahhhk, a dead person breathed on me!"

First jeep was a 1943 Willy's.... Presently own a 16 JKU RHR, sold my 1999 wrangler to buy it just a few months ago.

2dr is impractical for me. No room to haul stuff, carry large items, haul a trailer (1,000 lbs less vs 4dr) .

There will always be haters..... Just get what works for you. I wouldn't call it a upgrade (except if next jeep is a few years newer) and not a downgrade either.... More of a sidestep. Still very capable be it on a trail or cruising a mall like some think these are used for.

Even trading the jeep, in you should be able to wrk it out so you can swap everything you want to keep.

Bye bye 2dr, HELLOOOO 4Dr Rubicon~

Well, the 2dr went bye bye today... Couldn't resist a roomier, more capable Jeep to do more. Jeep 2Dr served me well, but she had to go... Now let the mods begin~ :happyyes: 2 dr will be missed... So much room, space galore and yes more room to move more stuff :bop:

Giant congrats on the new rig; looks great. I've got a company car so bought the two door as a toy. I may be getting a different job so went back and test drove the 4-door since this may be my new daily driver, but just didn't like the ride as much.

Glad you made the right choice for you; enjoy!

I'm considering the same sort of upgrade, just probably not to a Rubicon. My issue is a 95 lb dog plus gear makes for serious space constraints. And what if I want to haul more than 1 other person once I get to my destination? Can't really do that when my back seat is taken out.

I am sold on getting a 4 door, I'm just waiting a bit before I actually do it.

My ex and I drove a 2 dr on a 13 hour road trip for vacation. It was sufficient but the extra room would have been really nice. My wife and I took our 4 dr on a 17 hour road trip and it was fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of space it had and how comfortable the ride was. I think the 2 doors look better but the 4 door makes so much more sense for me. I am just glad there is a 4 dr option so I can enjoy the Wrangler too! With a 2 year old and another coming soon I would be hard pressed to fit them in a 2 dr. Not only do kids need seats but they have their stuff too...strollers etc.

I would not have given up my 2 door in May, but after the child seat hunt, I just decided to get a 2015 4 door mainly because I got a good deal, and I was moving from a 3.8 to a 3.6 engine.

Pro
1. Didn't have to deal with my 3.8 drinking oil
2. More space for baby and related item etc

Cons
1. Turning radius, but I have gotten used to it now.
2. Cannot squeeze into small parking spots anymore when parallel parking.
3. I tend to hoard stuff in the 4 door, so I cannot leave it top down all over like I did the 2 door, but come next spring I am planning to run a soft top all year and will clean out the Wrangler so I can leave it anywhere/time top down.

All in all I like the 4 door, and it's wishful thinking that I can go back to a 2 door, the only way I would be able to go 2 door again is to have two vehicles and I don't really have the need and space to do that.

I have never felt restricted with the 2 door, we have done many trips to NYC from Toronto, went on a 17,000 mile trip never an issue with lack of space.

In the past 8 months I went from 2012 2dr Rubicon to a 2016 4dr Black Bear.

After owing my 4dr for 2 months now I realize i made the right choice and I should've gotten a 4dr the first time around. The trunk space the 2dr offered was the main reason to upgrade. I thought the space wouldn't have bothered me so much, but after 4 months I just couldn't bare with it anymore.
