This sounds about right give or take.
That maybe on the high side though

If I was ordering a Jeep I would get the 3.73s but I would not make the gears a deciding factor for one on the lot. Perhaps if I had a JKU and a boat I would jump up and down to get the 3.73 but as a DD you'll still pull hard on most cars out there with the 3.21s.

I've got the 3.73's on a base Sport with auto and those little 29" tires that come with the steel wheels. With that tire size the 3.73's feel extremely stout. I'm pulling over 2600 RPM's at 70 MPG with this setup and only get about 17 MPG running at that speed.

There are a lot of variables to consider when picking between the two.

Are 33" tires in your future plans? Go with the 3.73's.

Planning to leave the tire size stock? the 3.21's will probably serve you well and you'll probably enjoy slightly better over all MPG's.

Getting a stick shift? I might lean a little more towards 3.73's.

Definitely get the 3.73 gears. The additional rotation to your drive shaft won't effect the mpg much. The 3.73 gears are stronger allowing for a much higher towing capacity.
3.21 gears allow for only 1,000 lb towing for the 2 door and 2,000 lb for the 4 door.
3.73 gears allow for only 2,000 lb towing for the 2 door and 3,500 lb for the 4 door.
However make sure the window specs state the Max Tow Group Package with 3.73 ratio.
The standard Tow Group Package may have the 3.21 gears.

if this one has a the tow group package group but has the 3;21 gears.

You can buy it now and keep the sticker off the window that says tow group Package. and in a few weeks tell the dealership that the info on jeep website is incorrect and it states that toe tow group package comes with the 3.73 when you purchase the tow package group. then they should switch them out for free.

Max tow and tow are different packages. Tow package is just the hitch, Max tow is the hitch and gears that's why the Max tow is more expensive.

I've got one dealer that is close, but doesn't have power windows/lock and wants an additional $1,800 to install them. Then I had another dealer that had one like I wanted and quoted me a good price. But when it came down to it the salesman gave me the wrong price. The price he gave was for a different jeep that has the other options but not the 3.73 rear end.

He tried to make a sell for the one that has all the options I want but with the 3.21 in it. I told him that I was ready to make a deal until he informed me of their screw up and I really want the 3.73. We'll see what he comes back with.

On a side note, I thought about going ahead with the deal with the intent of re-gearing it later on since I would be running pretty much stock for a while until I have the funds to mod it.

I can get a '13 4dr with the 3.21, hitch, power windows/locks, hard top for $28,087. Should I go ahead with the deal since I won't be lifting it anytime soon?

I guess re-gearing later would costs about $2,000 right?
There is a sponsor here, Fields Jeep, email Patrick and give him a chance to find your Jeep. I did a trip from Albuquerque and he was still better than the prices here with out the hassle, the dealers here, tried to meet the price after the fact, but Patrick had what I wanted. Patrick is a manager now, so if you buy there, ask that Sean be you salesman, Both are 2 of the nicest guys to deal with.
I got a JKUR with 3.73 gears, dual tops, power windows, 430N, heated seats, side air bags (the only thing I didnt want) and a great price.

What do ya'll think? Thanks.
We have the 3.21 with auto in our 2013 Sahara. It's my wife's DD. The 3.6L has plenty of power with the 3.21 gearing and we wouldn't want anything else.

Fact: I get 18-21mpg on 3.73 is San Diego really depending if the doors are on or off.

Fact: No one would choose the 3.21 after driving the 3.73

Fact: I would rather have the 4.10

Fact: I will have 4.53 ratio when I lift......

I have a 2013 two door sport with 3.73 gears on 33" Toyo Open Country tires and a aftermarket 17" wheels.

If your buying a new vehicle get the 3.73 gears if you're not going to upgrade or upgrade anytime soon.

You will always be wondering "I wonder what the other gears would have been like" everytime you drive it.

With gears just get the lowest ones for your set up...if you could go 4.88 and get the 4.10 you will wish you had gone for the next step.

Saw it....looks great!
The Photobucket mention was for future needs on posting pics.

I have maybe 150 pics in there and can easily grab them and post into this or any forum

I test drove both and seat of the pants I could not tell the difference both identical 2012 sport S models with automatics.

3.21 and 3.73 are close with automatic... it's only the 1st gear when you give it abundant gas that it will launch with the 3.73. 3.21 isn't as responsive but hit 2nd gear and it's gone.

That's my take. My gearhead buddy test drove with me and he said there wasn't much difference in regular driving. It's when you need the 1st gear 'get up and go' that the 3.73 will shine. I assume the difference is larger with the manual tranny.

I got the 3.73 as that's the more "jeep" gear. If you plan on towing or running bigger wheels/tires you'll be happy.

Fact: She gets 19-20 mpg in CITY driving back and forth to work

Fact: The 3.21 has more than enough power for on-road DD use.

Fact: We don't want anything else and if we would order another one we would again choose the 3.21
