if it was a keyless ignition it would work, like the Mercedes push button start, but with a standard key...no, still have to stick it in and turn it and turn it back off then back on to restart the car...

here are the stickers, the more expensive one is the one I like, but it's lacking the 3:73. The other one is the only one with 3:73 within reasonable distance, but lacking some useful things like towing package, air bags etc.

Sorry but your remote start is not working correctly, take it to the dealer. Hit the button twice to start the Jeep. Hit the unlock button, get in, insert key to run and drive off.

If you remote start then decide not to go, you can hit the start button two more times and it will stop the engine.

Drove a '12 6 sp. with 3.21 gears and didn't like it. Very sluggish. It also had 17" rims too.

Just my cents, they didn't have a '12 auto at the time.

Well it works fine, just the step to drive off doesn't seem to work the way you put it. I put the key in and turn it to go, but I can't shift to Drive unless I turn the engine off first and restart it. Mechanical problem??

Thanks for pointing out how to turn it off remotely, didn't read the manual...lol

Okay if I wanted to do the whole axle gear switch on my own what all would I need. I would also be going from a 3.21 to a 3.73. Lockers would be another add on that I would do at the same time. Sorry to hijack your thread I just want to get my s**t straight before I start dropping coin.

You might as well buy a rubi with a 4.1 ratio and it comes with lockers. I just did a gear change on a 11 two door, and put a eaton elocker ($900) in the front. 3.73 to 4.88 ratio as I run stock tires and the jeep is auto. Also swapped the front and rear diff plates with some upgrades while I was at it. Didn't lock the rear as it had LSD from the factory. Cost me $3700 for the turn key job. Time you lock the rear you are real close to 5K. I built a new COD rubi on the jeep site yesterday. 2 door loaded up. List price $44,450 and some change. OMG that's high, but a better buy then that arctic sahara thing!

I dought if a gear swap is anything you could do on your own. And if you could you would already know what you would need. Bearing and install kits, plus gears and the tools and expertise to swap it all out. Not for the average shade tree mechanic. You would be money ahead to just get a rubi, and it comes with 3.73 or 4.1, your choice.

Get either 3.21 or 3.73....still a wrangler at the end of the day. 1/10 mpg doesnt matter over a few 100.

Gas prices coming, will fluctuate by a ton more than that

I have a buddy who does it all out of his garage but he is out of town so I cant talk to him. So I decided to come to you guys.

Yeah, not a DIY mod unless you're very sophisticated.

Don't know what it would cost for your YJ, but you want a master overhaul kit, since they'll more than likely wreck the rear pinion bearing and maybe some other stuff during removal of your old gears.

Best to let a shop that does the install buy the parts for you, as well. That way, if anything gets screwed up (missing parts, bad parts, etc), it's on them and they'll take care of it. It'll also keep the manufacturer's warranty intact.

For a JK, a gear change costs about $1500.

I ended up with the 3.21s mated to the 6 spd manual. I could tell the difference when I went from the stock 32s to the duratrac 33s w/ a 2.5 lift, but I haven't had any problems with acceleration. That said, 6th gear doesn't get touched until I hit 70+.





I probably should have held out for the 3.73s, but I needed transpo quickly and this met the majority of my specifications. when I hit 50K or so I'll probably end up doing a regear.

ETA: I LOVE Texas: 30 DEC and 76 degrees! Took these pics today.

Born and raised in Texas, love it there...Florida transplant now though.

That is probably the sweetest cleanest 4 door I have seen, not a big fan of the 4 door version either!

I have 33's with Auto 3.21...I want to say it is actually really fast, haven't noticed a sluggish feeling myself.

Thanks. I do need to put some sort of rail on the side, more for the kids than for protection; they can barely get in!

On topic, I'm putting in a hitch next week. I'll pull a few loads to see how it performs and report back.

Let me know, that is good info to us. We normally head to Port Isabel, RGV area 3 to 4 times a year, all family still there. Hope can find some cool places to go wheelin when we get there.

Factory remote start? Mine works fine (press the button twice within 5 seconds to start). Runs 15 minutes max and:

Remote start will also cancel if any of the following occur:
• The engine stalls or RPM exceeds 2500
• Any engine warning lamps come on
• The hood is opened
• The hazard switch is pressed
• The transmission is moved out of PARK
• The brake pedal is pressed

I unlock the doors, get in, and put the ignition on. That's it.

Crunch time...last day for a great deal. Of the two stickers I posted earlier, which one would you guys pick? The one with 3:21 and all the goodies (side airbags, towing, N730 nav etc.) or the 3:73 with less equipment but 3K less.

Who says it's the last day for a great deal? Some jake leg salesman at some podunk dealer that don't stock squat? I wouldn't buy either one. You can order a arctic if that's what you want. Never get in a hurry to spend 40 grand. There will always be a better deal down the road. Just take your time and look. Get what you want, not what they have to sell ya. I always order that way you get it your way. Just like burger king! Call Pat at fields of dreams and I am sure he can help you out.

I already tried to place an order for an Arctic, but two different dealers said you can't custom order them. Limited run BS story. End of the year deals, can squeeze the dealer a little extra. And you are right, I'm not buying eiter one of them, as it turns out the cheaper one doesn't have A/C listed on the sticker. Who would buy a car without A/C???

had a 2007 6 speed manual with the 3:21 gears.....couldn't get out of its own way unless it was going downhil with a tail wind. forget uphill, you would have to go to at least 5th and sometimes 4th. i traded it for the 2012 Rubicon 4:10 six speed and love it. the combination of the penstar and the 4:10 rear makes it fun to drive. the mileage with the 3:21 sucked because it didn't have enough power to push my 33" nittos. Walk away from the 3:21...jmho

Ok, I'm getting to this very late but here goes. I have 3.21's in my 6spd. Sport "S". I bought in August!. BUT, it was the ONLY Sahara Tan Sport "S" Hardtop 6spd. ANYWHERE near me and I wanted the colour.

I didn't even consider the ramifications of the 3.73's, I wanted ONLY Sahara Tan.

IF......IF I had a choice I would have got 3.73's. Thats for sure. BUT.....I tow a 14 foot alu skiff with a 9.9 Yami 4 stroke (total weight maybe 750#'s with trailer and gear). I have zero issues towing. I live on the coast and the 3.21's are great. Also the performance for my use is good, ya, its best above 3000 rpm's but at 70 I'm only turning 1900! The gas milage is very very good considering its a 4wd brick......but its a great ride!
